The Young and the Restless Recap May 5: Phyllis Arrested, Sienna Remembers Murdering Matt, but Matt is Alive
TL;DR: In today’s Young and the Restless recap, Christine arrests Phyllis, Nick reveals his fentanyl addiction to Nikki, Sienna remembers killing Matt, and Matt Clark is discovered alive and well in Vegas but doesn’t remember why he’s there.
The Young and the Restless Recap May 5

Christine came to Phyllis’ office with a police officer and told her she had reviewed the evidence. Phyllis quickly told her that it was fake, and she thought they’d moved past her grievances.
Phyllis accused Christine of being there to intimidate her, but Christine told her, “I’m not here to intimidate you. I’m here to arrest you.” With that, the police officer read Phyllis her rights.
Christine told the cop that she hoped that there wasn’t a need for a cuffed perp walk, and that Phyllis would just come with them calmly.
Phyllis told Christine she’d made a mistake on her very first case as D.A. as she would prove that Victor fabricated the evidence. Christine told her that she committed a crime, stealing the company from Victor and his family, and for that, she must be held accountable.
Christine didn’t think Phyllis could prove Victor’s evidence was fake. She offered Phyllis a plea deal but Phyllis declined, vowing to fight her and Victor every step of the way as the cop took her away. At the elevator, they ran into Lauren.
Christine explained what was going on, but Lauren insisted that the “proof” was fabricated and warned that Victor was using Christine to do his dirty work. Phyllis told her not to bother calling Michael as she got into the elevator.
Nick Tells Nikki About His Addiction

Nick met Nikki at Society and told her he didn’t like that they were meeting there instead of the ranch. Nikki said that her and Victor’s last fight was the worst they’d ever had, and it felt different. She didn’t think they’d come back from it.
Nick told his mom that Sienna claimed to have killed Matt but didn’t know how. Nikki warned about believing it without proof, as Matt had already proved, even when Nick thought he’d killed him, he didn’t.
Nikki added that his trip to Vegas seemed darker somehow. Nick admitted that there was something he had to tell her, and he had been dreading it.
Nick told Nikki about his addiction to fentanyl. It was a tearful conversation, and Nikki apologized for not seeing the signs. She told him she would fully support him without judgment, even if he had slip-ups in the future.
Nick asked if Nikki left Victor to kidnap Jack, and defended how desperate he must have felt to go to such lengths. Nick said that it wasn’t just a company, it was his identity.
“He built this empire for you, Mom,” Nick implored. He said that if she could understand where he was coming from with it, then maybe she could forgive him for what he did, but Nikki didn’t think she could.
Sienna Remembers Killing Matt

At Sharon’s, Noah encouraged Sienna to tell his mom what she’d just told him about Matt’s death. Sienna said she was starting to remember more about what happened.
Sienna claimed that once she realized Matt wasn’t buying her appeal, and he blew up the gas station, he told her that they needed to leave the area and that Noah was dead. “It wasn’t true,” Noah said.
Sienna said she jumped out of the car and hoped he’d leave her there, but she heard his footsteps and panting breath, and she didn’t know if he was coming to kill her. She said he chased her down, and she fought him with everything she had. “And that’s when I killed him,” she said.
Sienna explained that Matt tried to kill her, but she managed to get a big rock and hit him in the head. When he started to move again, she bashed his head a few more times.
Sienna and Sharon Question Her Memories

Sienna checked for a pulse and didn’t find one. Then, she realized what she’d done, so she ran back to her car. “So now we know,” Noah concluded. Sharon wasn’t so sure.
Despite Noah telling her to accept it was over, Sharon asked how long it was between her checking his pulse and hitting Matt again, but Sienna didn’t know. She also wasn’t sure where she had left Matt.
Sienna said she remembered something like a water park when she was running. She said she had no idea how far she’d run when Matt chased her and where his car was.
Sienna wondered if she’d misremembered anything, and he was still alive. She asked what if she’d wished he was dead so badly that she thought she had killed him.
Sharon said if Matt was still alive, then he’d be coming back for all of them.
Lauren Begs Michael To Help Phyllis

Lauren met Michael at Crimson Lights, but he was uninterested in Phyllis’ arrest. He told her it had been avoidable if she’d taken his advice and given the company back to Victor.
Lauren told Michael she wanted him to say that Phyllis was one of their best friends. She reminded him of how many times he’d said that guilt or innocence didn’t factor into whether or not he took on a case. “And if you’re not going to do it for Phyllis, do it for me,” she pleaded.
Nick Tries To Play Peacemaker

Nick went to the ranch and tried to convince Victor to talk to Nikki, but he wasn’t interested, either. While they were talking, Michael arrived.
Michael told Victor that he wanted him to hear it from him that he intended to defend Phyllis. Victor told him that if he crossed that line, there would be no coming back.
Michael explained that Phyllis was a friend, and his creed was always that everyone deserved a fair shake in court. Victor yelled at him to take his creed and get out.
Once alone, Nick and Victor discussed Phyllis. Nick didn’t like that his family was having her arrested based on false information, while Victor felt she deserved what she was getting. Just then, Nikki walked in.
Nick rushed over and wanted her to come into the living room and talk to Victor, but she was just there to get her riding clothes so she could go see Concerto, and didn’t want to speak to him. Nick pleaded with Victor to go to her, but he didn’t want to do that, either.
Phyllis Makes Bail

Phyllis, Michael, and Lauren returned to the office after Michael posted bail. Michael was ready to get to work on her case and prove that Victor fabricated the evidence.
Phyllis confirmed that it was too late to give the company back as a trade to have the charges dropped. Lauren wondered if Christine wanted to drop the case, and if it was possible.
Michael didn’t think that Christine would make personal decisions on any case. That said, he also didn’t think she’d need much motivation to go after her in court, given the chance.
And just like that, we get to keep Matt

In a diner somewhere, a shaken Matt Clark had a cup of coffee. He showed the server a GCAC business card and asked how far away he was.
The server told him he was about 2000 miles from Wisconsin. Matt seemed confused, so she told him he was still in Vegas. “Did she say Vegas?” a confused Matt asked himself after she walked away. He said he needed to find out what happened to him — and who he was.

Gotta give the writers credit. There must have been a lot of research on the story from way back because I didn’t realize Phillis & Matt had never met! Nice little intrigue simmering there. Bet Phillis will find a way to use the memory-less Matt.
