The Young and the Restless Recap May 28: Nick Overdoses

TL;DR: In today’s Young and the Restless recap, Nick flatlines after an overdose, but Matt Clark performs CPR to save his life. Victor then takes Matt to the ranch. Nikki has a terrifying premonitional dream, and Claire admits her feelings for Holden.

The Young and the Restless Recap May 28

In New York, Holden met his mom at the hospital cafe for dinner between her shift and his visit with Malcolm. He told him that getting to know Malcolm didn’t feel as weird anymore. Stephanie wondered when they would talk about Claire Newman.

Holden said there was nothing serious between them, so to talk about his feelings for Claire would be premature. Stephanie said she could tell he cared more about Claire than he was willing to admit to her or himself.

Claire Catches Feelings For Holden

In the hotel room, Claire was bored waiting for Holden and spied his suitcase. She snooped and found a photo of Holden with his dad and commented to herself how cute he was.

As Claire put everything back, Holden walked in. He thanked her for waiting and offered to take her for dinner but Claire wanted to order room service and stay in, telling him that they would make it romantic.

As Holden looked at the menu, Claire was watching him with interest. She asked how Holden was, and then they talked about his conversation with Stephanie. He said his mom mentioned his trail of broken hearts, and Claire asked what that meant. 

Holden told Claire that he had never had a serious relationship because he hadn’t found the right woman yet. Claire said she’d only been with one man in a serious way but not anymore. Holden asked if a future for them was in the cards. Claire said  

Jack Keeps A Secret From Kyle

At Crimson Lights, Victoria ran into Jack and Kyle and asked Jack privately about addiction, revealing she was worried about Nick. Jack admitted that some people he knew did relapse a few times. 

Jack and Victoria noted that Victor would hate it if Nick took Jack up on his offer to be his sponsor. Jack added that he hated the way Victor treated Nikki and hoped she was finished with him once and for all because of it.

Victoria understood how Jack felt but said that her dad was going through a lot. Kyle interupted to blast Victoria for the Newman double standard and said it wasn’t loyalty; it was enabling.

Victoria decided to leave, and Kyle told his dad he wasn’t going to apologize. He said that everyone either made excuses for Victor or shrugged and said, “What can we do?” He was sick of it.

Jack understood, but also said that the family was going through a lot and that it wasn’t giving Victor a pass to show them a little compassion. Jack told Kyle there were serious private matters and that he couldn’t talk about them.

Nikki Has a Premonitional Dream

At GCAC, Nikki reached her room but held her head as she sank into the chair. She got something for her headache and texted Nick to ask to meet for breakfast, noting that she was concerned she hadn’t heard from him. Nikki texted Jack, asking him to join her and Nick to discuss his sponsoring him.

Nikki fell asleep and had a dream about asking Victor to work together for Nick’s sake, but it turned into a nightmare when Victor told her that it was too late and Nick had overdosed. Nikki awoke screaming.

Victoria came by and told her she’d had a nightmare, as she was still shaken up by it. She told her the details, crying as she recounted what happened.

While Kyle took a call, Jack called Nikki and accepted her invitation. She quickly told him that she hadn’t heard from Nick in a while, but Jack told her not to jump to conclusions and that he was probably fine. 

When Nikki hung up, her headache returned, and Victoria told her that she was concerned. 

Nick Newman Flatlines

In Phyllis’ office, Nick remained unconscious as Victor called 911. When Matt said that Nick couldn’t hear them yelling at him to wake up because he was OD’ing, Noah lunged at him and said it was his fault. As Nick pinned him against the wall, Matt tried to tell them that he could save Nick. Matt pushed Noah aside and insisted Nick would die unless they let him save him.

Phyllis suggested they let Matt try, then Victor yelled at everyone to get out of the way and let Matt do his work. Matt checked for a pain response and got nothing, but tried to get Matt to wake up, telling him there was a room full of people who loved him and to fight. Matt checked and said there was no pulse. Sharon sobbed, and Phyllis shrieked that Nick was dead.

Matt told Phyllis to help him do CPR by giving Nick mouth-to-mouth while he pumped his chest. It took a moment, but they got Nick to revive. As he gasped and wheezed for air, Matt held his head and told him to stay with him and soothed that he’d be okay.

Victor Deals With Matt

The paramedics arrived, and Matt talked everyone through the steps they were doing to help Nick. Sienna asked Matt who this person was now; he said he honestly didn’t know, but he wasn’t trying to con her.

The paramedics got Nick propped up, and Victor held him. When they said that doing CPR saved Nick’s life, Victor stared at Matt. 

Sharon and Noah went with Nick to the hospital, but Sienna wanted to find out what was going on with Matt. Phyllis told Matt that he saved Nick’s life and she was grateful. He quipped that it was a good thing that she tricked him or he wouldn’t have been there to save Nick.

Victor’s henchmen arrived, and he told them to take Matt to the ranch and wait for him to join them. “What are you going to do with me?” Matt asked.
