The Young and the Restless Recap June 5: Victor Gives Chancellor to Lily and Sharon Comforts Phyllis

TL;DR: In today’s Young and the Restless recap, Phyllis is crushed when Daniel remains unforgiving. Lily has a special request of Cane after Victor upholds their Chancellor deal. Noah prepares for the opening of the Shadow Room, and Victor decides to keep a watchful eye on Matt to test his sincerity.

The Young and the Restless Recap June 5

At Chancellor Park Cafe, Holden told Audra that Malcolm came through with flying colors and had just been released from the hospital. Audra was excited for him and gave him a spontaneous hug. Holden was taken aback by her friendliness, but she hoped they could be happy for one another as old friends would, and Holden agreed. 

Audra shocked him a second time by letting him know that Noah created a version of the Shadow Room in Genoa City and that it was opening that evening. She said that Noah put it on social media, and the photos looked like the original. Holden was disturbed, knowing he never wanted to step foot in the place again, and now it would be the hot spot in town.

Audra was curious and wanted to see it, so Holden wondered if it was the place or Noah Newman that had her so intrigued. Holden reminded Audra that Noah was with Sienna and she wouldn’t like it if she was sniffing around. He advised her to avoid trouble. 

Cane Hears From Maddie and Charlie

Lily saw Cane on the Crimson Lights patio and told him the good news about Malcolm. He received a group text from Maddie and Charlie, but was nervous about what it would say. Lily read it first, then handed his phone back. “You’re going to want to read this,” she said.

Cane cried as he read their message, “Hey Dad, it’s really cool what you did for Uncle Malcolm.” He said it was the first time they’d called him Dad in a very long time. Lily said they could feel the change in him was genuine, and they were coming around.

Lily said the man they knew and loved is the dad they were missing, and that was the man she saw as well. Through their banter, they agreed to meet at Society in an hour, though they teased one another as to whether or not it was a date.

Noah Prepares for the Shadow Room Opening

Inside, Nick, Sharon, and Noah talked about Phyllis giving the company back. Sharon wondered how she was handling it. Noah suggested he call Summer and tell her the news, but Nick asked him to let Phyllis do it. 

The conversation then turned to Matt; both Sharon and Noah wanted to face him, but Nick said to leave it up to him and Victor to handle him.

Noah said he wanted his opening night to go well that evening. He said he was doing it for Sienna, and that Matt had made so many negatives out of the L.A. nightclub that he wanted it to have a fresh start in town.

Phyllis Tells Daniel She Returned Newman Enterprises

Phyllis asked Daniel to meet her at Society, and he showed up, begrudgingly. Daniel was relieved when Phyllis told him that she had given Newman Enterprises back to Victor and his family. He said he was glad she did the right thing; she was looking forward to getting their relationship back on track.

Daniel asked whether she gave it back because it was the right thing to do or because she was forced to; if that was the case, they still had a problem. Phyllis snapped that she had done what Daniel had been begging her to do for months. “Is that not enough?” she asked. She said she had to give up her dream to do the right thing and asked why it was an argument. 

Daniel said that if she were backed into a corner, then she would have learned nothing, and she didn’t do it because it was the right thing. “Why can’t both of those things be true?” Phyllis asked. She told him that she did one of the hardest things she had to do, giving the company back.

Daniel Publicly Rejects Phyllis 

“It was a company that I loved. I was really, really proud of it,” Phyllis shared. “Okay,” Daniel shrugged, “So are you sorry for the things you did? Or are you a victimized martyr?” Taken aback, Phyllis asked who she was talking to. “I can’t win here,” she noted.

Daniel told his mom she had plenty of chances to win with him, but she refused to be reasonable. Phyllis started to cry as Sharon and Noah came in and watched. She cried to Daniel that, as she’d told him many times, she just wanted him and Summer to be proud of her. “I just wanted you to think I was a success, that’s all,” she added before giving up and walking out.

Sharon Gives Daniel Some Advice

Sharon and Noah joined Daniel at the bar and listened to him complain about her. Noah laughed that he sounded like his sister. “Uh, I mean, our sister,” he corrected.

Sharon told Daniel that a lot had happened before Phyllis got into this situation. She was surprised that after everything his mother had given up, Daniel couldn’t find a way to forgive her. Daniel held onto the part that she was forced to give back the company.

When Daniel lamented that his mom never learns from her mistakes, Sharon wondered what he expected when all roads for Phyllis led to the same reaction from everyone: rejection. Sharon explained that Phyllis felt like she’d given up a great deal and deserved accolades for it.

“But if everyone else sees it as her being a pariah, what’s going to make her make the right choice next time?” Sharon asked. Sharon decided to cancel her breakfast with Noah. “Where are you going?” he asked. “To find Phyllis. I’m sure she could use a friend right now,” she told them.

Daniel Congratulates Noah

Once alone, Daniel told Noah he was genuinely happy the Newmans had gotten their company back. He thought he should call Summer and tell her, and admitted he hoped she would have a better reaction than he did, because Phyllis and Summer missed one another.

Daniel didn’t want to talk about it anymore so Noah invited him to the club opening, and Daniel agreed to see him there later. As Daniel walked out, Audra came in. She congratulated him on the club and was looking forward to going to the opening.

Sharon Offers Phyllis the Support She Needs

At Crimson Lights, Phyllis tried to hold it together on the patio but was overcome by her emotions. Sharon came in and told her that she was looking for her. Phyllis assumed it was to say I-told-you-so, but Sharon wanted to be a friend.

Phyllis cried that she gave it all back and she had nothing to show for it. “You told me if I did that, that I wouldn’t lose my kids and I have. I’ve lost my kids. I’ve lost my business. I lost everything. You told me I’d get respect of people in this town, and I don’t,” she said.

When Phyllis said she had less now than she did before, Sharon told her she had everything she needed inside of her. She asked Phyllis to find the fighter inside of her who stood by her in the clinic. “I didn’t stop believing in you, Phyllis; I just believed you were not on the right path to get there. The Phyllis Summers I know is not a quitter,” she told her.

Phyllis held Sharon’s hand as she told her she’d better get the hell back out there. “And damn well better prove me right,” Sharon said. 

Victor Makes Matt Feel Like A New Man

In the main house living room on the ranch, Matt told Victor that he remembered the things that he did, but he didn’t know why he did them. He said that he didn’t know what would drive anyone to be that type of person. “What happens to me now?” Matt asked.

Matt asked Victor for the opportunity to make amends to his family, but Victor said they would talk about it when Nick got there. Matt understood and asked if he could find it in his heart to have something to eat and let him rinse off in a shower. 

Victor told him that he had a propensity for disappearing. “Yeah, I guess I’m asking you to trust me,” Matt replied. Victor told Matt he wouldn’t let him out of his sight. Matt reminded Victor that he had no ID or money, so he couldn’t go far, but Victor pointed out he’d managed to come to Genoa City from Las Vegas without those things. “Fair point,” Matt agreed.

Victor said that Matt was either the best liar he’d ever met or that he was truly suffering from a mental disease. Either way, he agreed to make arrangements for him to shower. Matt told Victor that, given his memories, he was being very kind to him.

Nick Confides In His Dad

When Nick arrived, he told his dad that he woke up feeling pretty shaky, so he went to a meeting and talked about what that was like. Nick cried that he’d really let the family down and wanted to make amends. 

Nick felt bad that he wasn’t there for Victor and Nikki when they were having problems, and Victor felt bad that Nick needed to go to drug rehab. He promised his dad that he would focus on getting better. 

Nick asked what the plan was for Matt. Victor revealed that he decided to keep Matt close and see if he was truly repentant. If that was the case, he thought Matt could be of use to them. He added that he was going to put him to a test.

Victor Summons Lily and Challenges Matt

Victor asked Lily to come to the ranch and told her he’d gotten Newman Enterprises back from Phyllis. Nick listened in shock as Victor said he would uphold their agreement and sign Chancellor over to her. 

Lily thanked Victor for keeping his word, and he told her he had already drawn up the paperwork. After Lily left, Nick was fuming about it, but Victor said he did what he needed to. Nick told him that Nikki would be devastated by it.

Just then, a freshly showered Matt waltzed in, announcing he felt like a “new man.” Matt quickly explained to Nick how generous Victor had been to him and apologized again for things he’d done. He was glad Nick was okay but acknowledged that he never would have overdosed if he hadn’t gotten him hooked on drugs.

Victor told Matt he wanted to put him to a sincerity test. Matt was excited for the chance to make amends and said to throw any challenge his way. “I want to see if I can trust you,” Victor glowered.

Meanwhile, at Society, Lily told Cane that Victor gave her Chancellor after all. After he congratulated her, Lily said she had one more thing. “How would you feel about running it for me?” she asked.
