The Young and the Restless Recap June 24: Claire Tells Victor the Truth about Nikki, and Matt Asks Phyllis Out On A Date
TL;DR: In today’s Young and the Restless recap for Wednesday, June 23, Claire tells Victor the truth about Nikki, Nikki’s vision suddenly goes blurry, and Matt asks Phyllis out.
The Young and the Restless Recap June 24

Nikki came down the stairs at the GCAC and saw Victor with Victoria and Claire. She stopped to greet her daughter and granddaughter, then said she was going to get some fresh air. However, Victor told them to wait and tell him what was going on.
Nikki told Victor that he wanted to have control over things that weren’t his business, but Victor said he had a right to know. Nikki told him that theory went out the window when he kicked her out of the home he supposedly built for her and gave away the company he bought for her. She and Victor argued about it and then Nikki left.
Victor told Claire and Victoria that what they just heard was fear, and because Nikki was scared, they had to tell him what was really going on with Nikki. They didn’t, and later, when Claire was alone, Holden joined her and she vented her frustrations about the situation. Holden asked if she’d rather keep the secret so no one would be mad at her, or tell Victor so Nikki didn’t have to face it alone.
Claire went home to the ranch and found Victor in the atrium. She said she either made a mistake or she was about to. “What are you talking about?” Victor asked. “It’s Grandma. You need to know what’s going on with her,” Claire told him. Claire said that Nikki could go blind.
Nikki’s Vision Goes Blurry

Meanwhile, Victoria and Nikki went to the Chancellor Park Cafe. Victoria assured her mom that Victor wouldn’t find out anything from her and noted that Claire knew not to tell him any more, either. “Claire knows too? All of it?” Nikki gasped. Victoria admitted she had told her and had also pleaded with her to tell Victor, since he’d find out anyway.
Nikki was taken aback when Victoria told her to give in to Victor’s badgering. She told Victoria that she was dealing with enough and couldn’t handle Victor knowing, too. She explained that Victor’s ego and his insistence that he is the only one who knows what to do diminish her, and she didn’t want to be burdened by his issues. “It’s a weight I don’t want to carry,” she added.
Nikki also shared that although she let Victor’s comment that she allowed stress to take its toll on her, she wondered if it was true. “If a lifetime of Victor has brought me to this,” Nikki said.
Victoria countered that Nikki found it easier to be angry with Victor than to be vulnerable with him. “Victoria, stop it! This is exactly what your father would do: second-guess me.” Victoria reminded Nikki that Victor would keep digging until he found out. She told her mom that it wouldn’t be until Nikki leaned on Victor that she would be on the path to truly dealing with her illness.
Nikki told Victoria that she didn’t have the answer to that. Just then, she had an incredible headache and everything went blurry. It didn’t refocus, so she asked Victoria to take her to the hospital right away.
Noah Warns Matt to Stay Away From His Family

Noah was doing some paperwork at the bar when he heard the Shadow Room door open. He called out that they weren’t open, but Matt asked if he could come in anyway. Matt admitted that he knew who Noah was when they met, and what he did was messed up. He said he considered Noah like an insurance policy.
Matt explained that his mentality at the time was that he believed he was a genius and everyone else was inferior. When Matt said that he respected Noah’s business sense and genuinely liked him, Noah didn’t care. He thought that Matt hadn’t changed.
Noah gave Matt a warning that if he hurt anyone he loved, Noah would kill him. Matt told Noah that he wanted to make amends and that he regretted the things he’d done, but if someone threatens him, then he needs to protect himself. “Are you threatening me?” Noah asked. Matt reiterated that he came there to make amends.
Noah snapped that he didn’t have to accept his apologies and that if it hurt his feelings, too bad. Matt reminded him that a few months earlier, he would’ve helped Nick die, but he saved him instead. And the second chance at life was his thanks. “Victor is giving me a chance to prove that I’ve changed, “ Matt told him. He asked if Noah could consider the same.
Phyllis Leaves With Matt

Phyllis came in and overheard Noah tell him that he would never believe Matt was human. She interrupted their conversation and said that she was at the ATM across the street and spotted Matt walking in, so she came to check that everything was okay.
Phyllis asked if Noah had talked to Summer to tell her that Newman was back in Victor’s hands and was semi-committal about it. When Matt asked Phyllis if she wanted to go somewhere to talk, Noah balked. He wanted to know why Phyllis was hanging out with him and warned her not to find out the hard way who he really was.
Phyllis told Matt that she would love to go somewhere and have a conversation, and emphasized that she would be safe, that he was kind, and that he had changed. Noah fumed as they left together.
Nick Turns Down Temptation

Nick came to Crimson Lights after his meeting and told Sharon it was rough. He said one guy showed up high and he’d been clean for a year, and it was Nick’s worst nightmare. Sharon and Nick discussed the other stories Nick was hearing and his worries about his future.
Sharon told Nick to use Nikki as an example and lean on her and his family to get through it. Nick wished he could focus on Newman Enterprises, but Sharon said he still needed to do the work and go to meetings. “You can do this, Nick,” she encouraged.
When Sharon left to take a call from Mariah, Nick stepped out on the patio. The guy he bought pills from in the park was there having a coffee and said hello. Nick seemed tempted but told the guy to leave and not to come back. He left peacefully as Noah came in; he asked his dad if he knew the guy. Nick admitted the guy was a local dealer, but he didn’t buy anything from him.
Matt Asks Phyllis Out

Phyllis and Matt met at the GCAC dining room, and he ordered her favorite wine. He said he was trying to be classy and tone it down because he knew he could be a little too much for people. Phyllis told him that she knew she was a lot for people and related in their styles of how they talked to people. Matt stared at her as she basically explained how alike they were in some ways.
“I want to ask you something,” he said. Phyllis noted that his tone got serious. Matt said he’d understood if she said no, but hoped she didn’t. Phyllis assumed he was talking about Cane, and she promised she wouldn’t out him. As she teased him about being a horse wrangler, Matt complimented her on her humor and brain speed. He said it wasn’t Cane that he wanted to ask her about, so she told him to spill it then.
In a very roundabout way, Matt asked Phyllis out on a date. He added that he had a second chance on life and he really did want to make amends to the Newmans and others. “But the first time I saw you, you were dazzling,” he told her. Despite her knocking him over the head, he felt she had a light and a warm heart.
Matt was aware that most people would never forget what he’d done, but if you pushed that stuff aside, most people also didn’t get him. But Phyllis did. He asked if she would go out to dinner with him.
