The Young and the Restless Recap June 2: Nick Betrays Phyllis, Matt Begs For Mercy, Adam and Sally Share Tears
TL;DR: In today’s Young and the Restless recap, Nick stuns Phyllis with a betrayal right after she saved his life, Matt Clark is tortured by his memories and begs for a second chance, and Sally and Adam share an emotional farewell.
The Young and the Restless June 2

At Chancellor Park Cafe, Sally was working on her wedding dress when Adam walked up and said he had heard the news that she and Billy were getting married.
Sally expected sarcasm or a warning that she was making a mistake, but Adam was unexpectedly supportive. He said that if anyone was owed happiness and something to celebrate, it was Sally.
Adam said he also knew she was having a baby. Sally asked about his feelings, and Adam said he was sad that Ava wasn’t there but happy for Sally. She knew what he meant and said that she felt guilty at first, but knew that Ava would always be with her.
Adam told Sally that he missed Ava, and she said she sees her in her dreams. “You do? How is she?” Adam asked. Sally told him that she played with Ava but that Adam was also with her, and she was safe because of him.
Sally said Adam was a great dad to Connor and was the father Ava deserved, even in her dreams. She wanted to be the best mom for the baby she was carrying, and Adam told her she already was. He said how happy he was for her and her baby. The two got tearful as they parted.
Phyllis And Victor Bond

At the ranch, Phyllis came to see Nick as she couldn’t find him at home or at Sharon’s. She thought the ER released him too soon and wanted to know that he was okay. Victor told her they needed to talk and invited her inside.
Victor told Phyllis how Nick became addicted to fentanyl, and they talked about everything from the past to that same Matt Clark saving his life. “You must have been terrified,” Phyllis said softly. Victor said it was an image he couldn’t get out of his head, but thanked Phyllis for what she did to save Nick.
Phyllis started to cry as she said that she froze for a bit, and Matt really was the one who did it. She said she didn’t know about the drugs, and Matt called her over, and she remembered how she’d saved Sharon and repeated it.
They agreed that Matt didn’t have to save Nick, but he did. Victor thanked Phyllis “from the bottom of his heart,” and they both choked up as she said that she loved Nick. “He’s the father of my child, and he’s a good man,” Phyllis said. Victor told her that his children were his heart, too.
A tearful Phyllis asked Victor to tell Nick that she just needed to see his face. She went to leave, but Victor called out. “Thank you for coming by,” he told her.
Matt Is Tortured By His Memories

At the new Shadow Room, Matt continued having horrible flashbacks. “Oh my god, it was me. I did those things,” he gasped in horror. Sienna tried to tell him it would be okay, but he kept having more memories flood back of him trying to kill and threaten all of them.
A mortified Matt started to sob. As reality hit him about what he had done, he cried that he was so sorry to each of them. Sienna said she could tell he was being genuine and tried to help him calm down.
Matt told her to stay away from him because it was worse than any of them thought, and he remembered how badly he wanted to hurt them all and couldn’t guarantee that he wouldn’t do it again. Sharon wasn’t sure what to think, noting to Nick that she thought if his memories came back, his instincts would as well.
Sienna asked Matt if he had an urge to hurt any of them in that moment, and he said he didn’t but now knew what he was capable of. He wanted to leave, but Nick stopped him.
Nick Brings Matt Back To The Ranch

Matt said that he hated himself, too, but he didn’t want to die, not without doing something to make up for what he’d done. “My whole life. It can’t end without me doing one thing right,” he said as he began to sob again.
Sharon, Nick, and Noah went to the bar and argued about what to do with Matt. Sharon wanted to call the feds, but Nick didn’t want them to testify and make everything that had happened public. They heard Matt asking Sienna to ballpark how many people she thought he’d hurt. “He’s useless to us now!” Nick snapped to Sharon and Noah.
Nick ordered Matt to go with him and told the others he didn’t know yet what he would do with him. He told Noah to stay at the bar and no one to follow him as he walked out with Matt.
Nick returned Matt to the Newman gym. He didn’t know what to do when Matt sobbed his heart out, begging for forgiveness. Nick told him to calm down and said he’d be back, and left him crying.
Nick Updates Victor

Nick went up to the main house and told Victor he had Matt in the gym. Victor wasn’t impressed when Nick told him about the Genoa City version of the Shadow Room. “Who gave him permission to do that?!” Victor snapped. Nick shared that Noah’s intention was to jog Matt’s memory.
Nick told Victor how Matt remembered everything and was tortured over it. He said it seemed believable and didn’t know what to do about it. “I’ve wanted to get rid of this guy forever. What if he’s already gone?” Nick wondered.
Victor wanted Nick to leave Matt with him. He blasted him for overdosing and for how he’d scared him and Phyllis. Victor said Nick needed treatment because they couldn’t go through it again. As for Matt, Victor told Nick he would observe him and see what happened now that he had his memories, and if the dark side emerged.
Victor Questions Matt

Meanwhile, more memories flooded Matt’s mind, all the things that he’d done to everyone. “Please just make it stop. No more!” Matt pleaded.
Victor came in, and Matt told him that he got his memory back and that he was a vicious human being. He said he now gets why things went down the way they did the last time he was there with Victor.
Victor told him that saving Nick didn’t wash away everything he did to his family, and Matt agreed. He didn’t think he had a soul; otherwise, he couldn’t have done the things that he’d done. Matt told Victor that he could tell by the way he was looking at him that he was thinking a man like him could never be redeemed.
Victor asked if Matt thought he should be punished for his crimes. Matt said he should have been gone a long time ago. He explained that he had a voice in his head that told him to do bad things anyway, even though another part of him knew it was wrong.
Matt asked Victor to let him live, and he would prove to him that he was changed. “So now you’re bargaining for your life,” Victor noted. “Matt nodded his head as he began to sob. “Please… I don’t want to hurt you or anyone in your family. I don’t want to be that person. Let me make it up to you, make it up to all of you. Just tell me what to do, and I’ll do it,” he sobbed.
Sienna Stuns Noah

At the Shadow Room, Sienna, Sharon, and Noha couldn’t believe what they’d witnessed. Sienna said it was like watching the monster turn into a man. She added that she’d never seen him remorseful and didn’t understand who he was now. They agreed they needed to know if a man with that level of cruelty could change.
They talked about Nick and what he might do with Matt. Sharon hoped that he’d hand him over to the cops so he could go to prison. Sienna argued that the man that he was now was shattered. “Do you really think he’s going to survive being punished for his past?” Sienna asked. Noah’s jaw dropped at how quickly she turned sympathetic to Matt.
Nick Shocking Lack Of Gratitude

At the GCAC, Phyllis was thrilled when Nick came in. She rushed over and hugged him. “Thank you for saving my life and turning over Matt,” Nick told her. Phyllis said she knew something was off but couldn’t believe Matt got him addicted to fentanyl.
Nick asked Phyllis not to tell Summer, and she said it was something for him to discuss with her when he was ready. Phyllis asked what was happening with Matt… and if she was going to prison.
Nick explained that there were pending charges against Matt Clark in another state, and then he came to Genoa City, and she was harboring a fugitive. “Well, no, I wasn’t harboring him. He didn’t even know his name when I met him,” Phyllis said.
Nick told her that she knew eventually. “But now you’re harboring a fugitive,” Phyllis pointed out. Nick said that they never put him up in a hotel room and paid the bill for it. Phyllis was taken aback…all the way back… when Nick said she still had their company and that was going to change.
“You gave me your word that if I gave you Matt Clark, then you would drop the charges against me and I would keep my company,” Phyllis reminded him. Nick said that where it stood now was that he was going to tell the LVPD that she was knowingly harboring Matt Clark.
“Are you kidding me right now? I saved your life. I saved your life! What’s happening? Why are you talking to me like this? Who are you?!” Phyllis gasped.
