The Young and the Restless Recap July 31: Victor Reunites With Nikki as Matt Challenges Him
TL;DR: In today’s The Young and the Restless recap for Friday, July 31st, 2026, Victor and Nikki reconcile, Matt commits to staying in Genoa City with Phyllis and stands up to Victor, and Noah and Sienna’s disagreement over Matt reaches a breaking point.
The Young and the Restless Recap July 31

Phyllis woke up to an empty bed, no note, and no text. She called out to Matt, but he wasn’t in the bathroom, either.
Noah Finds Out About Nick

At Crimson Lights, Noah told Sharon how Sienna shared that she had mixed feelings for Matt. He said that she still blamed herself for the things he did to the Newmans. He thought she was hoping to find some good in Matt so she could absolve herself, but he wasn’t just all bad, and she never saw it earlier.
Noah hoped it wouldn’t take Matt doing something bad to snap her out of her forgiving mood. He thought if he could get him out of town on his own accord, he wouldn’t have to take drastic measures. Noah asked about Nick, and Sharon told him that he checked himself into rehab the night before.
Phyllis Panics Over Matt

At the GCAC, Nikki told Victor that she knew he was just as worried about Nick as she was. They agreed to work together to be there for their son, and Nikki was pleased. However, she noted that after a great morning, having breakfast together, and teaming up for one of their children was a familiar pattern. She felt they were falling into the same behavior without dealing with what broke them up.
Nikki asked what Victor was feeling, but Phyllis interrupted. Phyllis was irritated and intimated that she blamed Victor for Matt not returning, but when he genuinely seemed like he didn’t know what he’d done to upset her, she took her own table. There, Phyllis lamented to herself that Matt didn’t even say goodbye.
Phyllis sent Matt a text saying that she deserved better than no goodbye and being ignored…and got no response. After talking to herself for a while, she left him a voice message. She began by reminding him who she was, the woman he just slept with then ghosted.
“After everything I’ve done for you? Promised to do for you? What I did for you last night?” she grimaced. She said she thought there was a connection between them, and as she asked what happened, he walked in. Phyllis hung up and ripped into him for taking his bag and bolting at the crack of dawn.
Matt Explains Himself

Matt told her that he put his duffle bag under her bed so it wasn’t in the way, and he didn’t say goodbye because she was sleeping. “And I don’t know if you know this about yourself, Phyllis, but when you’re asleep, you have the face of a really hot angel,” he said. That made Phyllis light up.
Matt continued telling Phyllis to come with him upstairs to show her the bag, and then he could see her hot angel face smile. He told her the night before was epic, and he wouldn’t just cut out on her. “I hate that you think that I would. I like you,” Matt grinned. Phyllis admitted that she liked him, too…then suggested he didn’t need to listen to her voicemail. “Oh, I think I do!” Matt teased with a laugh.
Matt said that he spent the morning trying to put things in place so he could build a whole new life in Genoa City, thanks to her inspiration. Phyllis apologized, saying that she had been picturing worst-case scenarios. “I’ve been here before,” she said. “Not here. We’re not anywhere dangerous, not with me,” Matt told her.
Matt said that he checked in with Sienna, and she just might be his salvation. He explained that he needed to keep the Newmans at bay, so he needed an ally. Phyllis thought it was a fairy tale. She’d been down that road before, but once they decided you were the enemy, they never changed their minds. Phyllis pointed out that Sienna was one of them now.
Victor and Nikki Reconcile

Meanwhile, Nikki went back to asking Victor where things stood between them and asked if she was keeping her room at the club. “Do we still have a marriage? Or is Jack still an obstacle between us?” Nikki wondered. Victor asked her to stop talking about Jack Abbott.
Victor summarized that either he accepted her friendship with “that loser” or they didn’t have a future. Nikki said a third choice was that all he had to do was say he was wrong. She said he was her soul mate, but Jack was her friend, and what he did was wrong.
Victor said it was all because he lost his company, and it was the second time he lost her because of Jack Abbott. Nikki pointed out he kicked her out, and Victor apologized for pushing her away. Nikki said she could get past what he did to Jack, but she wasn’t giving up her friendship with him.
Victor finally decided that his love for Nikki was stronger than his hatred for Jack Abbott. “Thank you,” Nikki said tearfully. “Let’s go home,” Victor declared. They stood to leave but spotted Matt and Phyllis together. Victor said that they’d been together a while, but he would deal with them later.
“No, deal with them now, Victor, please. Be the hero that you’ve always been for me,” Nikki cooed, “And make sure that Matt Clark can never hurt our family again.”
Matt Defies Victor

Nikki and Victor interrupted Matt and Phyllis. Victor said that he just heard from security that Matt left his ankle monitor in his room at the ranch. “It was itchy,” Matt shrugged. “So you ignored my instructions. That’s never a good idea,” Victor warned. Matt told him he would keep his word but he needed a little breathing room to accomplish his goals.
With Nikki behind him with her arms crossed and frowning, Victor told Matt he was very clear on their deal. Matt told him he was about to violate a whole bunch of other terms. “I’m moving out of the room on the ranch, Victor. I’m gonna shack up with my girl, Phyllis,” he said. Nikki looked at Phyllis in shock as she smiled in awe, and Victor said, “We’ll see about that.”
Sienna Gives Matt a Chance

At the Shadow Room, Matt came to talk to Sienna one-on-one. He said that last time he was there, he thought they were having a good conversation, but Noah came in and accused him of harassing her. “Am I wrong? Or did we agree that in our life together, I wasn’t a total creep?” he asked. Sienna said he wasn’t wrong.
Matt said it was nice to know there were a few times in his life that he wasn’t ashamed of, and Sienna said the same for her. Matt told her that he had a revelation: he didn’t need to sacrifice his entire life to satisfy the Newmans or anyone else, especially when it was never going to work with them.
Matt told Sienna he’d met people who didn’t see him as a walking horror show, so he decided to stick around Genoa City after all. He asked her to assure the Newmans that he wasn’t a threat. He thought that if the words came from someone they cared about and respected, they might listen.
Sienna told him that she had already talked to Noah about it and thought it was a waste of time. Phyllis tried texting Matt, but he looked at the phone, put it down, and told Sienna their conversation was more important.
After Matt pleaded some more, Sienna relented but gave him a stern warning. She reminded Matt she almost took him out once, and said if he was playing her, she wouldn’t be so clumsy the next time.
Noah and Sienna Clash Over Matt

Just then, Noah came in, saw Matt, and lost his temper. He told him to get out of town or he would destroy him. Matt assured Noah he was on his way out and calmly left. A hopped-up Noah asked Sienna to tell him that the only reason he came was to say a final goodbye.
Sienna said that Matt just wanted to apologize for flipping out the other night. Noah told Sienna that Matt was just playing on her good nature, and she snapped that she would know if someone was playing her. Sienna yelled at Noah that she didn’t need him to come in there and throw himself in between her and Matt when all they were doing was talking.
Noah couldn’t believe his ears. He said they were talking about the same man who tried to kill them both more than once and terrorized his mom, got his dad addicted to fentanyl. “And you don’t think I should be concerned to find you alone with him again?” Noah yelled back.
Noah asked when it went from them being in total sync to her defending Matt Clark. Sienna barked that just because she could see the good person he used to be didn’t mean she excused the things he’s done. “Nobody manipulates me. And nobody controls me — including you!” Sienna told him before storming out.
