The Young and the Restless Recap August 7

At the main house, Adam found Connor’s baseball stuff and was about to leave when the phone rang. It was the rehab calling to tell Victor that he didn’t go back. Adam was calling Nick and involved Newman Security when Nick walked in.
Nick claimed his ringer was off and he was agitated that the clinic called since he told them he wasn’t coming back that night so he could spend some time with Christian and sleep over.
Adam asked why he didn’t tell anyone he was staying the night, but Nick didn’t know he had to. He snapped that he wouldn’t do drugs in front of his kid and didn’t like the implication. Nick told Christian he was dealing with a medical issue and asked Adam to keep an eye on him.
Nick added that Adam was to keep Christian off the ranch so he didn’t run into Matt. Adam told him that Matt left, was working with Phyllis, and they might even be living together.
Nick was livid that their dad just let go of the leash on Matt, but Adam suggested that Victor didn’t want to burden Nick with the details. Nick said he was committed to making better decisions moving forward, but noted that Matt being around would always set him off.
Adam told Nick how guilty he felt for telling him to use in Las Vegas if he needed to, and how it may have contributed to his addiction. Nick said the plan was for him to return to rehab, and that he’d be gone for a while. Adam reiterated his commitment to Christian, and said he and the family would do anything to help Nick.
Claire opens up about Holden

At the GCAC, Victoria happily told Claire about Victor and Nikki’s Italian itinerary since they were on their way to Venice. She noted that Claire had a glow about her that day. Claire admitted she’d seen Holden, and they talked about relationships.
Victoria suggested they have him over, but Claire just wanted to live in the moment and not jinx anything. Victoria could tell that Claire was really happy with him. Victoria got a call from the rehab about Nick and left.
Mariah confronts Matt

At Crimson Lights, Mariah was cheerfully talking to Sharon when Matt came in. He introduced himself to Mariah and noted he knew Cassie. Matt told Mariah that he was someone who hurt her mother very much but didn’t feel that he was that person anymore.
Mariah asked if he wanted to be tolerated after everything he’d done. Matt said he wanted to make amends. She told him that it was offensive to the people who put in the actual gut-wrenching work to change, and no one was buying his turnaround.
Mariah suggested that Matt go be better somewhere else, and Sharon agreed. Matt insisted he just wanted the chance to prove to her that he had changed. He apologized if Sienna and Noah left because of him as well.
Mariah told Matt to keep his distance from her family. Just then, Victoria rushed in and asked Sharon if she’d heard from Nick, as the rehab called her and he was gone. She asked Matt if he did something to him.
Sharon and Victoria begin to worry

Sharon and Victoria went to the ranch, and Adam told them about seeing Nick. They didn’t think it made sense that he wouldn’t take their calls.
Victoria called the rehab and asked if Nick had returned yet, but they said no. She also asked if it was true that he told them the night before that he wasn’t coming back. They said he did but seemed jittery and off.
Sharon wished she could have talked to Nick herself and asked what happened. Adam got defensive that she didn’t take his word for it. She asked if there was any way to track him. Adam thought that was extreme.
Adam told them that while he did say Nick looked like he could use again, he looked him right in the eye and said, “I am committed to my recovery.” Sharon scolded that Nick was an addict and they lied. They hoped he was on his way to rehab, but Victoria said if he wasn’t, they had to find out where he was.
Meanwhile, in his car, Nick called his dealer and placed his “usual order.” He met with him, bought more fentanyl, and then took two pills and swallowed them down with a bottle of water.
Billy and Audra compare notes

At Society, Billy ran into Audra at the bar after he dropped Sally off at the airport. She was on a flight to see her sister, Coco, who was having a procedure. Audra thought they should use the time together to be really honest and asked why he’d told Victor about their deal with Adam.
Billy admitted he wasn’t happy about the deal; Audra told him that she never wanted Sally to lie to him. Billy said he knew it was Adam who did it. Audra knew that Billy would never get over Delia but hoped he wouldn’t get more revenge for Sally’s sake.
Billy said that Chelsea all but confirmed Adam would never stop coming after him. Audra said that Adam had a right to be angry, as Billy had taken a cheap shot by going to Victor. Billy apologized to Audra as well.
Audra casually asked if it was true that Holden might be joining him and Cane at Chancellor. He wanted to know why she was asking, so she said she was just making small talk.
Matt Clark interrupted their conversation to apologize to Audra for the day in the park. He explained that he didn’t have his memory back then, but he’d changed since he got it back. Billy found out who he was and told him to keep walking.
Matt took a table, and Audra told Billy that it was weird to see Matt around town. Billy told her that he was either a decent guy or really good at faking it — which made him much more dangerous.
