The Young and the Restless Recap August 12: Nick’s Relapse Turns Deadly as Nate Makes a Major Career Decision

TL;DR: In The Young and the Restless recap for Wednesday, August 12th, 2026, Nick’s relapse with Marie turns disastrous, Nate has a change of heart, and Jack and Diane discover they were both holding onto secrets.

The Young and the Restless Recap August 12

At GCAC, Jack saw Cane and repeated what Victor said about him taking a step down by accepting a job from his ex-wife. “I guess when the mighty fall, they fall hard,” he said as Diane smirked and Cane laughed.

Jack wasn’t impressed when Cane told him that Billy was also working at Chancellor with Cane. He snapped that Billy promised he wouldn’t obsess about taking back the company anymore and was surprised to learn that he would work for Cane, not run it himself.

Cane told him that Billy found a new obsession inside Chancellor. Cane thought it was a wild goose chase and told Jack to ask Billy about it. He asked him to warn Billy not to be squandering the opportunity to work there as a means to the mystery he was chasing or he’d cut him loose.

Abby Worries Devon Will Change Again

At Society, Abby had a message from Lucy that Dom was asleep so she and Devon didn’t have to leave yet. Devon excitedly told her that he’d thought of a new bedtime story to tell him and then launched into his plans for the school he wanted to open. Abby asked if he thought he was moving a little too quickly.

Devon wondered why she was suddenly skeptical of the changes he was making. Abby got emotional and told Devon that up until he made this decision, she thought their marriage was doomed, as he was so unhappy. She just wanted this new perspective to last. Devon assured her he wasn’t going anywhere.

Abby felt better, and they went back to celebrating. Jack and Diane came in, and they cheerfully greeted one another before Jack and Diane took a table while Abby insisted on buying their dinner.

Diane and Jack Compare Notes

At their table, Diane noted to Jack that Billy was deep in the weeds already, pointing out that he hadn’t been by much to see Jack since he nearly died. Jack said he’d reach out but was also worried about Nick. 

Jack updated Diane about his addiction and she was surprised she knew nothing about it before now. Diane realized Nikki told him and then grimaced that of course he kept a secret from her for his best friend.

Jack explained that he offered to sponsor or help Nick, and it was an open offer. He added that Nikki and Victor were back together, and went to Venice. Diane thought Nikki was a fool.

Jack defended her decision, noting that Victor was there for Nikki when she lost her eyesight. Diane maintained that Nikki wasn’t a good friend to him but he didn’t want to talk about Victor or Nikki. 

Marie ODs With Nick

In his hotel room, Nick and Marie undressed one another as they kissed. Later, Nick tried to wake her but got up and washed his face in the bathroom. He paused when he saw his reflection and her in the bed behind him. 

Nick wrote a note to Marie telling her that he hoped she found a way out of this life, and that they both did. He tried to wake her again to say goodbye but then realized she wasn’t breathing.

Nick performed CPR until she suddenly gasped in air and lunged forward. She told him he should have let her die. Nick wanted to call the paramedics but she feared they’d call her husband, and then the whole world would know how far she’d fallen.

Nick wanted to help her but Marie didn’t want it. She cried that he wasn’t any better off than she was but didn’t want help. Marie told him to do what he wanted but to leave her out of it.

After the paramedics came and took Marie away, Nick sat on the bed and cried. He called Sharon and told her he was in bad shape and that he needed her to come get him. 

Nate Confesses To Lily

At Lily’s, Nate said returning to medicine had been on his mind and asked what Lily thought. She said it had been an interesting evening, although this news wasn’t as shocking as Devon’s. Lily understood that medicine was Nate’s passion, even if he was good at business. Nate assured her he wouldn’t leave her alone at Winters now that Devon was stepping away.

Nate said that the recent medical crisis with Malcolm and working with Stephanie brought it all back, and he missed it. Lily told Nate to go back to being a doctor. She could run the company on her own, and he deserved to be doing what he loved. 

Nate admitted his dream was to be a surgeon again but didn’t want to leave Lily alone. Lily teased that if he didn’t follow his dreams, she’d fire him. On a serious note, she told him that being a surgeon was who he was. “I really think you should go for it,” Lily said sincerely.

Nate Asks Devon’s Opinion

Nate sent Devon a message and asked him to come to his place so they could talk. When he got there, Nate said all the things he didn’t say when Devon first told him. Nate explained that his big news bumped up against his own.

Nate shared with Devon that he was thinking about returning to medicine, and that there was a way to make it happen. Devon lamented how he’d taken away Nate’s surgery career years ago but Nate said that it was water under the bridge now.

They talked about Lily, and Nate shared that she was happy for the both of them and encouraged him to go for it. Nate wondered if Devon thought it was a fools dream or if he should do it. Devon was all for it and told Nate he should pursue his dreams, too.

Cane Surprises Lily

Lily went to GCAC and met with Cane at the bar. He poured her a drink and told her she looked happy. Lily said she had some very surprising but yet exciting news to share. Cane was hopeful it was about him, but Lily said it was going to have a huge impact on everyone they knew.

Lily told Cane about her evening and that Devon and Cane were both leaving Winters. Cane noted that the main reason Lily wanted to stay at Winters was to be with family, and let her know if she wanted to take over Chancellor, he would step aside. Lily was surprised that he would offer that, but he told her that he would do anything and give up anything for her.
