The Young and the Restless Recap April 21: Victor Uses AI to Destroy Phyllis, Abby and Devon Battle Over Mariah

TL;DR: In today’s Young and the Restless recap, Victor reveals his plan to use a new AI application to fabricate evidence that will force Phyllis out of Summers Conglomerate. Michael is forced to deliver a grim warning to Lauren, Devon and Abby clash over Mariah, and Christine is offered the District Attorney position.

The Young and the Restless Recap April 21

Michael went to the ranch to see Victor, who told him he had plans to reclaim Newman Enterprises. Victor said he knew Michael had a conflict of interest, but he had a plan to force Phyllis to return the company to him, and it was in motion as they spoke.

Victoria explained that they bought off the employees that remained after swearing allegiance to Phyllis, and they would be leaving their positions in a matter of days. 

Michael wondered what else he had planned other than crippling the company. “Phyllis’ biggest mistake was giving me back control of Chancellor Industries, and I shall use that against her,” Victor replied.

Victor admitted that he’d acquired a new AI app that would “prove” that Phyllis illegally used AI to sabotage his company. Victoria chimed in that the app would provide legal documents with dates and signatures that would coincide with Phyllis’ time running Newman and Chancellor.

“So you’ve signed up for this, too, Victoria?” Michael questioned. “What do you expect, Michael? This is my family’s company!” Victoria snapped. 

Victor’s Warning For Michael

“You kneecap the company, you threaten Phyllis with a prison sentence. That’s a nice day’s work,” Michael said bitterly to Victor. “If I knew you were sincere, I’d consider that a compliment,” Victor sighed.

Victor and Victoria explained that she could either lose her workforce and be mired in scandal, or she could hand over the company, and maybe he would let Phyllis go unscathed.

Michael asked how he could trust the AI program, as it might not do what he wanted, or he could lose control of it. Victor told Michael to warn his wife to resign, or she’d go down with the ship.

After Michael left, Victoria told her dad she was proud of him for giving Michael a heads-up. She asked him to put aside his hurt and anger towards Nikki so she could be there as they got everything back.

Victor didn’t want to discuss Nikki. He asked Victoria if she’d heard from her brothers, but she hadn’t. He said he’d have his people in Vegas look into it, and they’d focus on bringing down Phyllis.

The Beginning of the End

At Summers Conglomerate, Lauren brought some of her flowers from her office to Phyllis, who told her it might be a sign that Michael was ready to put Victor in the rearview. Lauren was ready to get to work, and Phyllis said there was lots to be done. 

Lauren said she spoke to the head of accounting that morning, and the numbers were strong. However, Phyllis checked her email and all of the department heads were leaving immediately. Lauren and Phyllis knew it wasn’t a coincidence, and had Victor written all over it.

Phyllis was determined not to let Victor get the better of her and wanted to find a solution.

Before they could, all the employees quit. Lauren said they’d rebuild and rehire, starting with getting Michael on board in charge of legal. Michael texted Lauren to meet for lunch, and Phyllis told her it was the perfect opportunity.

Christine’s Career Opportunity

Danny returned early from Barcelona and surprised Christine at the GCAC. She told him that the D.A. was stepping down for health reasons, and she’d been offered to finish her term.

Danny and Christine weighed the pros and cons, like how she’d not be able to travel with him on tours. Danny offered to cut back on that and spend more time with her in Genoa City instead.

When Daniel came in, he told him about the concert, and Daniel reiterated how things had changed when Mariah was back in the picture.

The three got caught up, and Christine said that Devon was still digging his heels in on Mariah. She said it seemed he didn’t think Mariah was punished enough.

Michael came by to say hello, and let it slip that he’d recommended Christine for the D.A. job. When Lauren arrived, she and Michael went to get their own table. 

Daniel asked Christine if she’d have any pull in the case against Mariah if she were the D.A., but she said it was up to a panel of judges who were meeting that day anyway.

Christine agreed it seemed out of character for Devon, but said when people get angry or scared, it changes them. 

Phyllis Runs Out Of Options

Over at their own table, Michael told Lauren he knew something, but she couldn’t tell Phyllis because she was reactive.

Michael told Lauren that by the end of the week, Summers Conglomerate would cease to exist, and so would Phyllis’ mind.

Back at the office, Phyllis went through a list of people to call but all of them had already been contacted by Victor and told her they couldn’t take her offer. The only person left on the list was Michael Baldwin.

Devon Tracks Down Abby

Abby had just hung up the phone outside the Chancellor Park Cafe when Devon walked up and asked if she was going to avoid him forever. He asked if she’d gotten his text the night before about Lily and Holden, and why she had no questions.

Abby was full of excuses and clapped back to turn things around on him. Devon said he knew why she was avoiding him: Mariah.

Abby told Devon that he said he was going to look into things, but she was offended that he never discussed it with her before trying to get Mariah’s plea deal reversed. 

Devon noted that Abby seemed like she didn’t want to do anything to protect Dom. Abby realized that Devon was trying to force Mariah to feel so overwhelmed that she’d go off the rails, and they would have no other choice but to put her in prison.

Abby and Devon Argue

Devon just wanted Mariah to think twice before doing something like kidnapping Dom again. He didn’t know why Abby wasn’t as angry as he was.

Abby said she was upset, but it didn’t seem fair. Devon went off on her about all the things in life that weren’t fair; he just wished that his wife would have his back, he said.

Abby explained that she didn’t see Mariah as just the woman who took their son. She said she was their friend and needed help. Devon sarcastically took some swipes, then said that Abby wanted to protect the kidnapper, and he wanted to protect their son.

Frustrated, Devon stormed off as Daniel walked up and tried to talk to him. Daniel asked Abby why her husband was still trying to punish Mariah.

Abby said she loved Devon, but didn’t agree with what he was doing, and didn’t know what to do about it. “I’ve never seen him like this before,” she admitted.
