John Oliver | General Hospital | ABCDuring Sunday’s episode of Last Week Tonight, Oliver shared the first official photo of his General Hospital character, and it wasn’t anything like the lighthearted cameo many fans expected.
Instead, the comedian appears in a dark navy suit with an all-black shirt and tie, wearing a stern expression as two heavily armed tactical officers escort him through what looks like a high-stakes operation.
It’s a look that has fans asking the same question:

The First Photo Reveals Almost Nothing — Except That It’s Serious
John Oliver | General Hospital | ABCABC has kept Oliver’s character completely under wraps, and the preview image offers more questions than answers.
Oliver’s character doesn’t look like a tourist wandering through Port Charles for a quick joke cameo. With armed officers on either side of him, he looks like someone with authority — or someone important enough to require an armed escort.
That opens the door to plenty of possibilities. Could he be WSB? A government official? An international authority? Is he rescuing or arresting? Right now, nobody outside the show knows.
John Oliver Is Taking the Role Seriously
John Oliver | General Hospital & Days of our LivesIronically, Oliver was the first person to poke fun at the dramatic image. Showing it during Last Week Tonight, he joked that his “hair has been dipped in an inkwell” before proudly telling viewers he was “acting really hard.”
He even laughed that, of every guest star in General Hospital history, he supposedly required “the most takes.” But fans of the show are taking the visual hint seriously.
Who Do You Think He’s Playing?
Oliver’s three-episode arc begins July 2, so fans won’t have to wait long to find out whether he’s portraying a hero, a villain, or someone who falls somewhere in between. He’ll also appear on July 3rd and July 6th.
Until then, his identity remains one of Port Charles’ newest mysteries. So we’ll throw the question to you:
