Who Is Hudson on General Hospital? Meet Newcomer Troy Lennon Appel
Port Charles has a new face, and he’s already raising questions. Troy Lennon Appel made his General Hospital debut on July 30 as Hudson, a mysterious man at the Metro Court pool, whose arrival immediately caught Ethan Lovett’s attention.
While viewers have only seen a glimpse of the character so far, early clues suggest Hudson could become involved in several major storylines.
Hudson Was Written After Appel’s Audition

Troy Lennon Appel didn’t originally audition to play Hudson. He first read for the role of Detective Joe Fitzpatrick before producers ultimately cast Jonathan Bennett. Rather than ending the process there, the show later brought Appel back for a newly created role — one they created for him.
“It was never something I ever thought would even remotely happen in my life, but they did kind of create this role for me,” Appel told TVInsider. “That’s how they worded it to me.
Before Hudson was finalized, Appel also completed a chemistry read with Eden McCoy, whose character, Josslyn Jacks, appears likely to cross paths with him in the weeks ahead.
Hudson Already Has Connections in Port Charles

Hudson’s first episode hinted that he isn’t a stranger to everyone in town. Ethan’s reaction when he spotted Hudson suggested the two men have history, while Hudson also appears poised to become connected to the storyline involving baby Phoebe and the lives of Brook Lynn and Chase.
Behind the scenes, Appel has already filmed with Eden McCoy (Josslyn), Amanda Setton (Brook Lynn), Josh Swickard (Chase), Laura Wright (Carly) and several other familiar faces, suggesting Hudson won’t stay on the sidelines for long.
A Theater Actor Making His Soap Debut

Although this is Appel’s first daytime role, he’s no stranger to learning large amounts of dialogue.
The actor comes from a theater background and continues working as a personal trainer when he isn’t filming General Hospital. He has also spoken about how welcoming the cast and crew have been as he settles into life in Port Charles.
Off screen, Appel married his wife, Bernie, in 2025. He has credited her encouragement and support throughout the audition process that ultimately led to his role on the ABC soap.
What Comes Next for Hudson?

For now, General Hospital is keeping Hudson’s true agenda under wraps. His arrival raises plenty of questions, from why Ethan recognized him to whether his chemistry read with Josslyn points toward a future romance.
Ethan had tried to protect baby Phoebe from her biological father, whom he’d deemed a very bad guy. If Hudson turns out to be him, he may piece together the connection the same way Ethan did if he hears Delilah’s story in Port Charles. Whatever direction the writers take, Hudson already looks positioned to become more than just another passing visitor to Port Charles.
