At Society, Lily explained to Cane that she thought he could use the opportunity to get back on track by being CEO at Chancellor. She would still own it, and Devon would have input, but she thought that she and Devon both had enough to do at Winters. Before Cane committed, Malcolm came in and surprised them.

Malcolm said he was well enough to travel and wanted to come, but had some specific things he wanted to do while in town. He asked Lily if he could speak to Cane alone, so she moved to the bar to give them privacy. Once alone, Malcolm thanked Cane for saving his life.

Cane told Malcolm that he was happy to do it for him, but admitted it was a gesture to Lily as well. Cane added that he lost his father and wished he had had the chance to do something like that to save him. He shared that it kept him up at night a lot, wondering if there was more he could’ve done, and that helping Malcolm helped himself working through it.

Malcolm said that Cane gave him his life back, and he would always be grateful for it. Lily watched from the bar as they shook hands. Cane admitted that he has told Lily how he feels and that he loves her very much, but she’s not interested in him like that. “Good,” replied Malcolm. Cane knew he needed to build back trust with all of them.

Malcolm Warns Cane About Lily

Cane said all the right things, making Malcolm warn him that if he was hoping he’d give his blessing, he was going to hold it in reserve for a while. “Fair enough,” Cane agreed. Malcolm warned that Lily made her own choices, but if he ever hurt her, he’d have to deal with him. Lily rejoined them, and Malcolm said he needed to spend some time with Holden and get to know him.

Lily agreed and said that she and Holden were getting used to their new dynamics, but getting along well. She noted that he’d be happy to see Malcolm and hoped to see him later for dinner. After Malcolm left, Cane updated her on what they had talked about and promised Lily he would never hurt her again.

Once alone, Lily and Cane had lunch. In their talk, Cane had to remind Lily that he had never used the AI program; Phyllis had stolen it from him, and Victor was the one who used it. “Okay, but you brought it to town,” Lily shrugged. Cane told her he regretted it but couldn’t change anything in the past; he wished he could.

Lily was surprised when Cane said his legal troubles were resolved, as the charges had been dropped. After some bantering, Cane accepted her offer to run Chancellor. “I’m all in,” he said as they clinked glasses in celebration.

Holden Is Proud Of Stephanie

At Chancellor Park Cafe, Holden told Claire that he liked how close they had gotten, and she was on the same page. She noted that they were going to the opening of The Shadow Room that evening, but wondered why he would want to go to a replica of the place he wanted to avoid because of the bad memories he had there with Audra.

Holden thought of the Shadow Room history in L.A. as a thing of the past and suggested they make new and better memories together. Just then, Stephanie interrupted. She wanted to tell Holden about her job offer as chief of staff at the hospital, and that she was considering taking it.

Stephanie told Holden that it would require her to relocate to Genoa City and wanted his honest opinion about it before deciding. She added that she wanted to spend more time with him to make up for her dishonesty about his paternity. Holden assured her that he’d forgiven her long ago and was thrilled that she’d move to Genoa City.

As Holden told Stephanie that he was proud of her and stood up to hug her, Malcolm walked up and asked if he could get in on it. They introduced Malcolm and Claire, and Malcolm complimented her on the Winters motorcycle jacket that she’d bought for Holden. Claire offered to leave so they could all catch up. Malcolm thanked Stephanie and Holden for giving his life back, though Holden wished he had been a match. “The thought that you wanted to means more than I can say,” Malcolm said warmly.
Stephanie gave them time alone, and they quickly got talking about sports and debating their favorite teams. Malcolm asked Holden about what he was doing with his life. He admitted he’d been floating around a little, but said he always landed on his feet.

Malcolm noted that Holden’s jacket was a sign that the Winters company might be part of his future. Holden said you never know, but that he and Lily were still getting to know one another and they hadn’t discussed anything like that. He didn’t think Nate or Devon would welcome him anyway.

Malcolm understood that they would be a hurdle, but said once Holden had their trust, it would be for life. He offered to put in a good word for him, on one condition: Holden wore a Yankees hat, and they had a good chuckle.

Victor Recruits Matt for a Mission

At the ranch, Matt asked Victor what his test was about, but before telling him, Victor wanted to get other details squared away. To Nick’s horror, Victor insisted that Matt live in the ranchhand’s apartment, near the stables. After Matt agreed, Victor told him he wanted him to take care of Cane Ashby by becoming his closest friend and an invaluable ally in his inner circle.

Victor wanted a full, constant report of what Cane did all day so he could figure out his next move before he could. Victor said he needed Matt’s help to get revenge on Cane for committing an egregious crime against him and his family. Victor explained that Cane was partly responsible for taking his company from him, and he wanted to crush him.

Matt Agrees to Spy on Cane

Matt balked at the idea that he didn’t want to do anything to harm anyone ever again and pointed out that he got his company back. Victor felt that as long as Cane did business, he was a threat, but Matt refused to help, saying he didn’t want to be that person or go back to that dark place ever again. Nick agreed that it was not who he wanted Matt to be either, and said if they believed he’d changed, it didn’t make sense to force him to become the old Matt again.

Victor shut them both down, but Matt replied, “With all due respect, Victor, Nick is the one I owe amends to.” He turned to Nick for direction on what he would like him to do. Nick deferred to Victor, who told Matt that if he didn’t want to be an enemy of his family, then he had to be an ally against their enemies. In exchange, he’d have his freedom.

Victor said he would ensure his family wouldn’t testify against him in Las Vegas and that he’d have the federal charges dropped. But if he didn’t comply, he’d send him to prison with one phone call. Matt said he didn’t know if he’d go back to his old ways or not, regardless of whether he was forced to, so he accepted the deal.

Adam Questions Victor’s Plan

Later, Adam came by, and Nick said that Victor was having Matt moved into the apartment by the stables. He told Victor to fill in Adam since he didn’t understand it himself. Adam wondered why he had him so close and worried about the kids running into him. Victor promised Matt would be monitored 24 hours a day.

Victor told Adam his plan to spy on Cane. Adam was open to thinking it could work, but Nick wasn’t since he didn’t think Matt had changed. Victor reminded him that he watched Matt in action the night of his overdose, noting he could have left but he didn’t; he’d stayed to save Nick’s life.
“But this is the same guy who got Nick hooked on drugs in the first place,” Adam reminded him. Victor concluded that his plan was the way they would determine if Matt could be trusted.
