The Bold and the Beautiful Recap

In the CEO’s office, Eric refused to retire and said he wouldn’t be put out to pasture. Ridge asked Carter, Daphne, and Steffy to leave the room so he could talk to his dad.
Across the hall, Daphne said she understood that Ridge thought he was doing what he thought it was best, but it wasn’t his place to force Eric to retire. Carter was sad that Eric was so hurt.
In the CEO’s office, Donna told Ridge and Brooke that having a surprise retirement party wasn’t the way to go about anything and they weren’t listening to anything they had been saying. “Forcing me into retirement and finishing all the decades I put into this…that’s what’s best for me?” Eric asked, astounded. “Yes, it is,” Ridge told him.
Ridge said Eric could still come have lunch and chat but Eric wanted to design. “We’ll keep you active,” Ridge shrugged. He told him that he presented his final line. “You want to do it again? Who’s going to pay the price?” Ridge yelled. Donna interrupted to defend Eric, saying that he had more to contribute, and he wasn’t done. Ridge said that Eric asked him to run the company, and he was ready to do that.
Ridge ranted about how Eric needed to go retire already. He wanted his dad to be alive, but not work. He said that his legacy existed already and that he didn’t need to risk his life for one more line. Ridge implored Eric that he loved him too much to put him in jeopardy again. Eric relented and told Ridge that they would do it his way. Eric told him he loved him, then took his stapler and walked out.
Finn found Steffy in the runway room after taking a work call, and she told him that the surprise-you’re-retiring party didn’t go so well. Steffy realized that Eric’s designs were laid out on the table. She thought they were stunning and could understand why Eric didn’t want to retire.
Steffy said she had no idea about the collection. Finn suggested that the way the designs were laid out, he probably had a surprise planned to show them to Ridge. Finn and Steffy wondered if that would have changed things. Finn said he looked forward to retirement with Steffy and thought that Eric shouldn’t risk any health setbacks and enjoy this stage of his life.
Donna and Eric went to the runway room, but Steffy and Finn were gone. Eric was deeply hurt and packed up his designs. Donna suggested he show them to Ridge, but Eric said no. He said they were his designs and he wouldn’t share them. He wondered why Ridge didn’t want to work with him.
Eric pointed out how he was still an active designer and of value, but Ridge wanted to discard all of that. Donna was devastated for him, but he told her that she was the last person he wanted to hear pity from. After Donna left, Eric walked the runway one last time. He turned off the lights and sat with his designs for a moment, reflecting.
