Did Steffy Overreact by Ending Her Marriage to Finn Over Sheila on The Bold and the Beautiful?
Steffy Forrester took off her wedding ring and told Finn their marriage was over after discovering that Sheila Carter was in Monaco, but was that justified or an overreaction? On the surface, Steffy made an enormous decision in the middle of an emotional confrontation. However, the circumstances behind that decision make it hard to dismiss her reaction as impulsive or unreasonable.
Sheila Was The Reason For Steffy and Finn’s Reunion

Steffy’s reaction to seeing Sheila cannot be separated from what happened in 2022. At the time, Sheila (Kimberlin Brown)and Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) were having a similar argument as they have been lately: Steffy made it clear that Sheila would not have access to Finn (Tanner Novlan) or Hayes (Bryan David Garlick).
When a rejected Sheila pulled a gun, Finn arrived and stepped between the two women. He took the bullet meant for Steffy, and Sheila then shot Steffy as well. Sheila left them both to die in the alley.
Steffy had checked herself into a clinic in Monte Carlo while struggling with Finn’s supposed death. Meanwhile, Sheila discovered that Finn was alive, thought she’d knocked off Li, and took over Finn’s care.
Long story short, Finn managed to eventually escape. He immediately wanted to find Steffy, found out she was in Monaco, and hopped the pond to find her. By chance, they found one another in front of the chapel, and it became their “special place” ever since.
That history matters because Steffy wasn’t looking at Sheila as an unpleasant reminder of the past. She was looking at the person who had almost killed her and her husband, and whose actions caused her to believe that Finn was dead. The reunion they were celebrating was symbolic of overcoming one of the worst moments of their past, and a reminder of who caused it.
Finn Knew Sheila Was There

The situation in Monaco also became more difficult because Sheila had traveled alongside Finn. He tried to get her to leave, but when her flight was delayed, she wound up on the beach… and right in their path.
The decision not to tell Steffy about the flight gave her another reason to feel betrayed. Finn could argue that he was trying to protect her from the stress of seeing Sheila, but if you want to get technical, it was hardly the time.
Steffy wanted to recreate their reunion at the church right down to the exact date and time. Finn had to leave the plane and race straight there. He arrived for the reunion and celebrated with his wife. Thinking that Sheila was on a plane back to L.A., he thought that conversation could wait until later.
Regardless of Finn’s exact reasoning, Steffy did not ask him to make that decision for her. After everything Sheila had done, finding out that Finn flew to Monaco with Sheila in the seat next to him and kept that information from her was bound to affect Steffy’s trust. As she put it, it triggered her Sheila-caused PTSD and put her instantly into flight-or-fight mode. Steffy chose flight… quite literally.
Did Steffy Overreact?

There is certainly an argument that she did. Steffy ended her marriage during an emotionally charged confrontation rather than after giving herself time to process what had happened — or Finn time to explain.
However, that does not mean her anger was unjustified. Finn’s decision to keep Sheila’s presence from Steffy was particularly significant because he knows exactly what Sheila represents to her. He also knows that Steffy has never simply “gotten over” the shooting, nor should anyone expect her to.
The strongest argument against Steffy’s decision is not that she was wrong to be furious with Finn. She had every reason to be furious. The question is whether Finn’s failure to tell her about Sheila immediately was enough to end their marriage permanently.
That is where Steffy may have overreacted. She could have demanded that Finn establish firmer boundaries with Sheila, insisted that he stop making decisions about Sheila’s presence without consulting her, or simply left Monaco until she could think clearly. Instead, she made the biggest possible statement by taking off her ring.
Steffy’s Trauma Makes Her Reaction Understandable

At the same time, it is difficult to tell Steffy that she should calmly process Sheila’s appearance. While explaining yet again how she felt, Finn blurted out that he thought Sheila might have changed. That comment seemed to be the dealbreaker, as Steffy wasn’t going to argue — she was just done.
Steffy may regret taking off her ring, but Finn also needs to understand why this situation pushed his wife to that point. What’s done is done at this point — but how Steffy handles her pain and confusion is another.
Returning to Forrester after drinking the whole flight, to find Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor), someone she knows well and trusts, who is in equal pain and has also been drinking, could be a recipe for disaster. If Carter and Steffy find comfort in one another, Steffy (and Carter) could quickly regret much more than taking off a ring.
