The Young and the Restless Casting News: Malcolm and Stephanie Return

It’s the kind of casting news that makes longtime viewers sit up a little straighter — and maybe let out a squeal.
This morning, it was confirmed that Shemar Moore and Vivica A. Fox are headed back to The Young and the Restless — and yes, that collective gasp you heard came straight from Genoa City.
Shemar Moore and Vivica A. Fox are officially returning to The Young and the Restless in a multi-episode arc scheduled to begin airing this April.
Moore steps back into the shoes of Malcolm Winters, the fan-favorite photographer he first portrayed in 1994. Malcolm’s presence in Genoa City has been felt even when off-canvas — most recently during the show’s 50th anniversary tribute in 2023.
Fox returns as Dr. Stephanie Simmons, marking her first Y&R appearance since 1995. The doctor and Malcolm share a romantic history, having been paired during Fox’s original run before her demanding career pulled Stephanie away from town.
According to CBS, both actors began filming on Feb. 17, and their characters’ return will “have shocking and lasting implications for the residents of Genoa City.”
What This Means for Genoa City

For Moore, this will be his fourth time revisiting Malcolm since his original 1994–2005 tenure — following special appearances in 2014, 2019, and 2023. His history in the Winters family is deeply woven into the show’s fabric, from dramatic rivalries to personal twists that reshaped relationships across Genoa City.
Fox’s return is just as significant. After launching her career on daytime (including Days of Our Lives and Generations), her time as Stephanie was short but memorable — and it helped catapult her toward a major Hollywood career.
Though producers are tight-lipped about plot specifics, the network teaser suggests Malcolm and Stephanie will not simply walk in, say hello, and leave. Instead, this reunion is poised to spark storylines with real repercussions — possibly affecting old allies, unresolved relationships, and the current power dynamics in Genoa City.
Watch for Malcolm and Stephanie beginning this April on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
