John Oliver’s First Look at His Days of Our Lives Guest Star Arc

Earlier this year, John Oliver jokingly challenged the soap opera world to cast him. Now, that challenge has officially paid off.

During last night’s episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, the HBO host revealed he’ll appear on Days of Our Lives in a short story arc that will air on August 11, 12, and 14, 2026. Today, the show added to the excitement with a behind-the-scenes photo of Oliver posing outside his dressing room on the Days set, giving fans their first glimpse of his visit to Salem.

John Oliver’s Soap Dream Becomes Reality

Oliver first made headlines among daytime fans when he declared that he was available for any soap opera willing to cast him, joking that he was happy to travel if necessary.

Days of Our Lives took him up on the offer.

“When John Oliver said, ‘Call me soaps, I’m available and willing to travel. I want to be a part of that world,’ our world, we had to heed the call!” Executive Producer Ken Corday said in a statement announcing the guest appearance.

The role was taped earlier this month and will unfold across three episodes airing August 11, 12 and 14.

The First Behind-the-Scenes Look

Along with the announcement, viewers got their first look at Oliver backstage at Days of Our Lives. Standing outside his dressing room, the comedian looked every bit the excited guest star as production prepared for his scenes.

While NBC and Peacock are keeping details of his character under wraps for now, but filming is complete, and fans won’t have to wait much longer to see Oliver make his Salem debut.

Oliver’s guest appearance is another example of daytime television embracing unexpected crossover moments. Whether longtime Days viewers know him from Last Week Tonight or are simply curious to see how the Emmy-winning host fits into Salem, his three-episode arc is already shaping up to be one of the show’s most anticipated guest appearances of the summer.

A Soapy Summer for John Oliver

Days of our Lives isn’t the only soap opera Oliver was invited to. During Sunday’s episode of Last Week Tonight, Oliver announced that not one, but two daytime dramas answered the call. This week he’ll also make his debut on General Hospital.

“I’m so very glad they actually did,” Oliver said after joking about a tabloid report claiming he had turned down an emotional role on General Hospital. “Because it means that I now get to announce that I will also be appearing in General Hospital this summer.”

You can see John Oliver on General Hospital on July 2, 3 and 6, and on Days of our Lives on August 11, 12, and 14.
