A Few of My Favorite Things

The Bickersons

I’m liking this détente with a side of grudge that Alexis and Ric have going. Even when they are keeping the peace and are watching out for each other, they can’t help but bicker. The chemistry between Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) and Rick Hearst (Ric) is so natural and electric, you’d swear they’d actually been married. Whether Alexis and Ric are fighting, threatening each other’s lives, or grudgingly getting along, they are endlessly entertaining to watch. Last week, Ric had to play Sonny’s stooge and inform Alexis of Danny’s plea to join Sonny in the mob. Upon hearing the news, Alexis, quite understandably, nearly had a cardiac event.
Ric: “Boy, it’s a shame you don’t drink anymore because this is exactly the situation for alcohol.”
Alexis: “Do you really think that’s an appropriate thing to say to me right now?”
Ric: “I’m sorry. It’s the most insensitive thing I could say to a recovering alcoholic.”
Alexis: “Really? Really? It’s not even the worst thing that you’ve said to me in the last few minutes.”
Ric: “I know. I know. I know.”

Speaking of entertaining, we got one last gag out of the infamous ball gag. The look on Alexis’s and Ric’s faces when Danny asked what it was was absolutely priceless.
Danny:
“Grandma… Um, I was, um, cleaning out the basement, and I just got to ask – uh, what’s, what’s this?” (holding out the ball gag)
Alexis: “I think it’s just part of a-an old Halloween costume. Yeah, you can just toss it, okay.”
Ric: “Love to see that costume.”
Alexis: “Get out.”
Ric: “I probably have someplace I need to be…”

Fashion Sidebar: I liked Alexis’s work-at-home outfit –  Archive Poplin Shirt in mtchl strp fr blu/wt by Babaton at Aritzia, worn with jeans & knee-high boots. It was casual, stylish, and a little sexy. Like Cody once said of Alexis, “You know, she’s got a button-down, minxy quality about her.”

WWW – The Wild World of Willow

Willow: “It’s like I snapped. I couldn’t even think. But somehow I was in my car driving over here in the rain. I let myself in the back door. I saw Drew was in here. I walked up behind him and…I shot him in the back.”

Nina: “Twice.”

Willow took a break from her congressional do-gooding to indulge her more deviant side. Recalling her mother’s poor track record of success with schemes, Willow feared Nina would not do what it took to protect her from Jack Brennan’s threats to release the traffic cam footage. Thus, she decided she had no other choice but to blackmail her mother into compliance.

There’s cold-blooded, and then there’s ice cold-blooded. Tricking Nina into administering the paralytic drug to Drew to get her fingerprints on the syringe and giving a forced-tear confession about shooting Drew, Willow set Nina up to be an accessory to a federal felony, an accessory after the fact to another, and no telling what else. Drew had tried to blink a warning to Nina, but as you might expect, she was not fluent in Morse Code or panic blinking.

I really think the Reeves bloodline could give the Cassidines a run for their money. Perhaps Nina should give up the dream of having a daughter and find a nice Big Brothers Big Sisters program to volunteer with. BTW, Cynthia Watros’s (Nina) facial expressions were everything in these scenes!

Keeping the mercurial fires going, Willow targeted Jacinda next. At the Bad Jen Café, Willow was none too pleased to see how excited Wiley was to see Jacinda and to hear how amazing he thought she was. No longer bothering to try to have a sane response, Willow later paid Jacinda a visit at the Crimson office to put her in her place, but Jacinda proved to be a much worthier opponent than Willow had counted on.

Willow: “Even you must be able to see that’s it completely inappropriate for Michael to allow our children to spend time with a hooker. You’re a danger to them.”

Jacinda: “I’m a danger to them? Which one of us shot a man in the back twice and left him for dead?

Jacinda: “You really blew it, Willow. And now you’re desperately trying to find someone to take the blame – not just for the shooting, for your whole life. But the reality is, if you don’t like the way your life has turned out, you only have yourself to blame.”

Willow: “You have a record. You take money for sex. Who knows what you might expose my kids to?”

Jacinda: “Kindness. Fun. Sanity.”

The preview for Monday showed Willow referring to Jacinda as a “that”…Oof, it’s never a good look to dehumanize someone with a demonstrative pronoun. Unfortunately for Willow, she has mistaken manipulation and blackmail for having control of her life and has forgotten that people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. After all, it doesn’t do any good to stand on your own two feet if you are standing in quicksand. So, what do you think? Will Willow overplay her hand, or will she continue to get away with it all?

Random Thought: Why does Willow continue to talk to Drew like he’s a priest in a confessional?

Fashion Sidebar: They may have been hurling insults at each other, but at least Jacinda, in her

The Sumner Sleeveless Knit Midi Dress in Orange by Elie Tahari and Willow in her

Inspiration Sweater in Midday Blue by Babaton at Aritzia looked stylish while they did it.

Social Media Announcement: Paige Herschell (Jacinda) will be singing with San Lyon at the Cicada in downtown LA on May 1st.

Shifting Alliances

We finally got to see Ezra Boyle’s backbone this week after he lost patience with Jenz Sidwell’s incessant complaining. Jenz felt he was surrounded by incompetence and told Ezra to “Name me one thing that you’ve done that a chimpanzee couldn’t accomplish, hmm?” Ezra snapped and astutely pointed out, ”So, maybe the reason you’re failing so miserably isn’t because everyone else around you. Maybe, just maybe, it’s because of you.” Not one for constructive criticism, Jenz pulled a gun on Ezra.

To avoid ending up in someone’s trunk like Professor Dalton, Ezra fell in line and left to drown his frustrations at the Brown Dog. And, just as he was about to get the boot from the bartender for acting like a colossal jackass, Laura arrived to save the day.

Ezra: “Because nothing matters. Nothing matters anymore.”

Laura: “That’s just the whiskey talking.”

Ezra: “And the tequila. Don’t forget the tequila.”

Laura: “Yeah, how could I? I can smell it on you from here.”

Once back at Laura’s condo, Ezra acted like a lecherous jerk for a brief moment, but then actually started to exhibit some level of self-awareness and regret. Before he passed out on the couch, Laura employed her iconic arched eyebrows to warn him, “Don’t you dare get sick in my living room.” After Ezra slept it off for a while, Laura worked her magic and convinced him they could work together to defeat Sidwell. Do you think Ezra will keep his promise to work with Laura? If so, do you think they will be successful?

Side Note: I want to throw some appreciation Daniel Cosgrove’s way. Ezra Boyle was introduced as a truly unlikeable conniving creepster, but slowly, there have been small moments to reveal that he’s not as one-dimensional as he once seemed. Not only has Cosgrove managed to inject a little humor in Ezra’s smarminess, but he has also been slowly revealing a regretful resignation for the choices he made to leave him beholden to Sidwell.

Birthday Wishes: Happy birthday to Carlo Rota (Jenz Sidwell)! Check out photos from his sweet family-filled birthday on his Instagram.

Bits & Bobs

LOL moment – When Gio told Emma he once gave an Eagles jersey to a baby that was going to grow up in a Giants household.

Another LOL moment – When Brad worried he was going to have to dine & dash again…Britt: “Will you excuse me for a second? I’ll be right back.” Brad: “No, no, no, no, no, no. Please don’t do whatever you’re about to do. I don’t feel like dashing tonight. Our waitress looks like she ran track.”

One last LOL moment – Check out Ross Cullum’s dating profile video!

I love it when Carly and Lucas are getting along! Laura Wright and Van Hansis give such great sibling energy. I fear Lucas is dangerously punching above his weight in trying to take Cullum & Sidwell down, though, and wish that he would employ his sister’s help.

Welcome back, Ethan Lovett (Nathan Dean)! Do you think Ethan has come to town to seek revenge on Sidwell? Will he work with Sonny to do it? Is there still a chance for a romantic pairing with Kristina? So many possibilities! Read more about Ethan Lovett at the Soap

Yay – Jonathan Bennett is headed to General Hospital! I’m gonna need them to write in a Regina George reference just for funsies. Read about Bennett’s return to soaps at the Soap Scene: GH CASTING: Jonathan Bennett Joins General Hospital as Joe Fitzpatrick.
