General Hospital’s Anthony Geary

Actor Anthony Geary passed away on December 14th, 2025, from complications after a planned surgery last week.
Geary had been living in Amsterdam for the past ten years, but recently charmed fans by tuning in to watch former GH costars Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) and Genie Francis (Laura Collins) on Benard’s podcast, State of Mind.
Geary’s husband, Claudio Gama, had captured it on video as Geary watched his friends talk on the podcast and shared it online. The caption read, “He told me, ‘those are two lovely and talented people, great friends, and I miss them.” Geary and Francis’ characters were the legendary “Luke and Laura” of General Hospital. The role garnered Geary eight Daytime Emmy Awards and a lifetime of fans. Their characters just mentioned Luke last week when Sonny had reminded Laura of how they had met and had gotten out of an impossible situation with Luke. When Benard learned that Geary had watched the podcast, he was touched and said he would work with him again, and as the threesome, no question about it.
“Our condolences are with our friends at ‘General Hospital’ on the passing of Anthony Geary, who won a record-breaking 8 Emmys in the Lead Actor category. As one half of the power couple ‘Luke and Laura,’ their popularity brought daytime television into the zeitgeist and created one of the genre’s most beloved super-couples. Our sympathies are with his family, colleagues, and loved ones.” – Rachel Schwartz, Head of Daytime / Children’s & Family Emmys.
Geary also made appearances on shows like The Partridge Family, Mod Squad, and All in the Family,as well as many other famous and classic shows in the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s, such as Barnaby Jones, The Streets of San Francisco, Starsky & Hutch, and The Six Million Dollar Man. Geary was also on The Young and the Restless as George Curtis in 1973, and played his main character role of Luke Spencer on Port Charles and General Hospital: Night Shift, as well as in an episode of Roseanne.
