General Hospital: Britt’s Cold Fusion Project Could Make Billions — and Get Her Killed

Leave it to Cesar Faison to create chaos long after he’s gone.

On General Hospital, Britt Westbourne is hard at work on her father’s mysterious “final project,” which we now know is cold fusion. Yes, actual cold fusion — the real life scientific holy grail that has fascinated researchers for decades and could make whoever controls it richer than the Quartermaines, Sidwell, and the Cassadine fortune combined.

That’s exactly why Britt is in such a dangerous position.

Cesar Faison (Anders Hove) was never content with ordinary villainy. Kidnappings, secret children, and world domination schemes were all part of his résumé, but his final legacy may be his most ambitious plan yet.

Faison left behind research into cold fusion, a discovery so valuable that Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) and his semi-secret partner, Director Ross Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) are determined to see it completed. They believe it could generate billions of dollars and reshape the global economy.

Unfortunately for Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud), this isn’t an optional side project. She is essentially being held in scientific captivity until she finishes the work — and completing the project may be every bit as dangerous as failing.

Why Britt Is the Only One Who Can Do It

Britt isn’t trying to honor her father’s memory, and she certainly isn’t looking to make Sidwell richer. She is doing this because she has no choice.

As Faison’s daughter and a brilliant doctor (so much so that she’s conquering what no one in the real world has yet), Britt is uniquely qualified to understand his research. That makes her incredibly valuable right now — but perhaps only until the project is complete.

Once cold fusion is operational, Britt and, probably, her brother, Cassius Faison (Ryan Paevey), may know too much to be allowed to walk away.

What Is Cold Fusion, Exactly?

As wild as this storyline sounds, cold fusion is a real scientific concept. Fusion is the process that powers the sun, where tiny atoms combine and release enormous amounts of energy.

The challenge is that traditional fusion requires temperatures of millions of degrees and massive reactors to contain the reaction. Cold fusion proposes that this same process could happen at or near room temperature.

If that sounds too good to be true, that’s because it probably is — for now. Scientists have pursued the idea for decades, but no one has been able to produce a reliable, repeatable version that works.

So Britt is attempting something the real world has yet to achieve. No wonder Sidwell is watching so closely.

Why Cold Fusion Would Change Everything

If cold fusion ever became a reality, it would be one of the most transformative discoveries in human history.

The process could produce immense amounts of clean energy using hydrogen from water. It would dramatically reduce dependence on fossil fuels, eliminate most carbon emissions, and provide a virtually limitless source of power.

The economic impact would be staggering. Countries would no longer battle over oil. Electricity could become dramatically cheaper. Entire industries would be transformed overnight.

In short, whoever controls cold fusion would hold extraordinary power.

Which is exactly the kind of thing that tends to attract dangerous people in Port Charles.

Britt’s Most Dangerous Experiment Yet

Britt has survived viral outbreaks, family betrayals, and more kidnappings than anyone should endure. But this may be her riskiest challenge yet.

She is racing to complete a scientific breakthrough that could change the world while trapped with people who may have no intention of letting her leave once the job is done.

That puts Britt in a terrifying position. If she fails, she could die. If she succeeds, she could die. And in the meantime, if she doesn’t work in the lab, she can’t have her meds… in which case, you guessed it, she’ll die.
