Days of our Lives Recap September 30: Lani Considers a Pardon, Mason Makes An Impact on Tate About Sophia’s Death
TL;DR: In today’s Days of our Lives recap, Lani considers a pardon with Paulina’s help, Kate grows suspicious about Philip’s gambling and secret investigation with Leo, Mason opens up to Tate about his connection to Sophia, and Holly begins seeing Sophia’s death from a different perspective.
Days of our Lives Recap September 30

Lani and Eli talked about how Paulina wanted to ask the governor for a favor to get Lani a pardon. When Eli asked her to consider it, she said everyone made her feel pressured. Lani said she served her time and deserved it, but Eli thought she also deserved the life she always wanted.
Eli said that she was saving her mother’s life and had suffered enough for it. He said that, in this case, he hoped what was right was for her to put herself first. Lani had to get ready for Leo’s podcast, so they had to shelve the conversation.
Kate Is Concerned About Philip’s Gambling

At the pub, Philip told Kate about his winnings. She scolded him, but before she could worry too much, he said that he promised Maggie he’d go back to meetings. “I haven’t forgotten what happened,” Philip added.
When Philip said they would save Titan, he asked Kate if she’d return to the company, but she didn’t want to. He said that he didn’t get back in time to save the house, though. Kate told him she’d always hoped that he’d get married and raise children there.
In the square, Leo told Cat and Gwen about his undercover work on Gabi’s handbags. He told them about the hospital lawsuit before taking off to do his new podcast. He stopped into the pub to see Kate, and happened to mention the secret operation he and Philip were working on. After Kate made Leo skidaddle off to work, she asked Philip what Leo was talking about.
Philip lied and said that Leo wanted him to do a podcast, but he wasn’t interested. Philip distracted Kate by giving her a gift he brought home from Monte Carlo. Kate loved her scarf, and told Philip how much she loved him, too.
Later, Kate got a call from Joy in the hospital. She wondered if a package arrived for her; Kate told her it did, and said she’d have their delivery guy bring it right over.
Stark Raving Mad

Lani and Holly talked to Leo on his podcast and told him about the mugging. Lani advised listeners to stay vigilant and help if they saw something by calling 911. She talked about being a former police officer, and Leo said many people thought she still should be. He asked her about what happened with Ray Coates.
Lani told the story about how she’d walked in as Ray with her mother. She knew he’d already hurt two of her family members, and thought he was about to hurt her mother. Leo noted that Lani still had the instincts and skills, as she’d jumped in to help Holly. Leo asked his listeners to chime in on it, but said that Lani should be back on the force.
When they went off air for a break, Lani thanked Leo and told him it felt good to get her side of the story out.
Mason Joins The Gym

Holly worked out with Tate at the gym. When she went to shower and change, Mason came in, looking to sign up. Tate took his credit card, saw his name, and said he recognized it. Tate said that his girlfriend had mentioned him a few times. As Mason wondered who his girlfriend was, Holly walked in.
Holly said she didn’t have a problem with it and had to get to Leo’s podcast. She told Mason to go ahead and sign up, and left. Once alone, Tate told Mason he’d have to tell him why he had a problem with Holly before he’d let him join his gym. “She didn’t tell you? It’s about Sophia Choi,” Mason shared.
Mason explained that Sophia used to call the hotline a lot to talk about Holly. He said that Sophia was barely hanging on, and he used to stress about her on his days off. Tate said he knew that Sophia was in a lot of pain, but she caused a lot of pain too, like what she did to his sister and cousin. Mason agreed she was in crisis, and wished she’d dealt with it another way.
Tate told Mason, emotionally, that they all cared about Sophia. Mason admitted he felt responsible for not being able to help Sophia, and he took it out on Holly. Tate understood how hard it hit when Sophia took her life. “It feels like I failed when I was needed most,” Mason explained.
Holly Has A New Perspective About Sophia

Later, Philip saw Mason in the square wearing a Marines T-shirt. The two instantly bonded. Meanwhile, Tate tracked down Holly to return the water bottle she’d forgotten. He told her about his conversation with Mason, and the bottom line was that they both felt like they could’ve been nicer, but it wouldn’t have changed the outcome.
Holly thought for a moment that someone in the square was Sophia. She realized her mistake and said she’d been thinking about her a lot since talking to Mason. Holly told Tate that she realized she was seeing things differently, but it was too late to do anything about it.
