Days of our Lives Recap May 26: Chanel Gets Bad News From Sarah, Jennifer Wants a Truce With Cat and Chad

TL;DR: In today’s Days of our Lives recap, Chanel and Johnny’s world is shattered by a malignant mass diagnosis. Jennifer seeks a truce with Cat while still opposing her relationship with Chad, and Xander and Leo receive counsel from Marlena.

Days of our Lives Recap May 26

At Abe’s, Chanel packed up her and Johnny since Paulina was moving out. She said that her building was safe to move back to and invited Paulina to join them.

Leo Remembers That Cat Might Be ISA

Leo and Chad met at the pub to talk business, but Chad had lots on his mind. He confided that he thought EJ was moving in on Cat and it bugged him.

Leo could understand, given the circumstances. He had a flashback to when he suspected she was ISA and told Chad he didn’t think Cat was interested in EJ that way.

Chad suspected that Leo was keeping something from him. Leo dismissed any knowledge of Cat he didn’t already have and made a quick exit.

Jennifer Apologizes To Cat

In the square, Jennifer sat Cat and stopped her to talk. She told Cat that she’d been struggling a lot, but as a recovering addict, part of the process of healing was making amends. 

Jennifer apologized for all the times she lashed out and deliberately hurt Cat, and wanted to call a truce. She said she wanted to extend the grace that others showed her in her darkest moments.

Jennifer took responsibility for her influence in Thomas’ anger towards her and his father. She said that, despite wanting to move past it all, she wasn’t ready for her and Chad to be together and raise her grandchildren.

Cat assured her that she and Chad had accepted her terms and they were not going to be a couple. Jennifer seemed relieved.

Marlena Counsels Xander and Leo

At the hospital, Sarah told Marlena she was waiting to talk to a patient about their lab results when Xander walked in. He mocked her for being done at Brady’s so quickly and indicated he didn’t satisfy her.

When she told him to suck it and walked away, he laughed with feigned innocence to Marlena that he’d struck a nerve. “In my office. Right now,” Marlena growled.

In her office, Xander told Marlena about his fling with Kristen. He said it had nothing to do with her being Brady’s ex, but admitted that it made him feel terrible, emotionally.

Xander shared that he’d been able to utilize anger management skills of late. He told Marlena that Sarah was the only woman for him and would be forever.

Leo came in as Xander was leaving. “I hope I didn’t interrupt anything dark and painful,” he quipped. Once alone, Leo told Marlena that Javi didn’t want to be his friend.

Leo admitted that he might have strolled by Javi’s house and work a few times. Marlena called it stalking, but when Leo said he needed boundaries and respect, she called it progress.

Chanel Gets Devastating News

Meanwhile, Sarah called Chanel and asked her to come to the hospital right away to get her test results. Sarah suggested that Chanel bring Johnny with her.

At DMera, Johnny said to EJ that he couldn’t be happier for Abe and Theo, but thought Lexie’s return from the dead was the last thing Paulina needed.

EJ told him how Tony wanted to replace him with Gabi, but Johnny wasn’t interested in fighting for it. He got a text from Chanel and ran out.

When they got to the hospital, Sarah told them that Chanel’s mass was malignant. “I’m so sorry,” she said. She said it was growing aggressively and told her the options. 

Chanel was against doing chemo as she was pregnant, but Johnny and Sarah reminded her that the baby needed her health to survive.  

Alex Tries to Bond With Kelsey

Joy brought Kelsey over to see Alex so he could bond with his daughter. Joy wondered if Stephanie went to Japan to avoid getting to know Kelsey.

Alex said that Stephanie was rocked by the news, but showed her a book that Stephanie had bought for her. Joy went through the basics with Alex and was going to leave them alone, but she got fussy, so she stayed.

Alex tried to comfort Kelsey, but nothing he did worked. With Joy’s help, Kelsey went to sleep. She agreed to stay when Alex was still freaked out at being alone with the baby.

Jennifer Explains To Chad

Jennifer went to the pub and saw Chad. She told him about her conversation with Cat and wanted to have the same opportunity with Chad.

Jennifer explained that all she had left of Abigail was to fight for her, and she was having trouble letting that go. She told Chad she wanted him to find love again but didn’t want him to forget Abigail.

Chad said that Abigail was the love of his life, and he couldn’t forget her. He said she lived on in his kids. “We didn’t have enough time together, but I got a lifetime of memories in the time that we did have. It’s what keeps me going,” Chad shared as he and Jennifer held hands.

Cat Tells EJ About Jennifer

Cat met with EJ, and she told him that Aaron was struggling with Sophia’s death. He told her that he’d talked to Johnny earlier, who reminded him that Sophia had mental health issues and deserved compassion.

Cat told EJ about her conversation with Jennifer. He uncomfortably asked if that meant she dropped her objection to her being in a relationship with his brother.

Cat admitted that Jennifer still wasn’t cool with it, and Chad put it in writing, so that’s how it was. EJ told her he was taking the afternoon off to do a hypnotherapy session with Marlena to try and recover his memories of their time together overseas.
