Days of our Lives Recap May 20: Gabi Blackmails Liam, Chad Sees EJ and Cat, Sophia’s Service Planned

TL;DR: In today’s Days of our Lives recap, Gabi pays Liam to leave Salem and Ari, while Amy and Sarah discuss Holly’s lack of remorse for Sophia’s death. Plus, Chad and Belle’s dinner date is dampened when they see EJ and Cat together.

Days of our Lives Recap May 20

EJ and Cat went for dinner at the bistro, and he told her about the board reporting him. He said that if they removed him, they could be in a sticky situation: if the hospital needed to be sold and they didn’t find a buyer, it would shut down.

Cat was sure that the board would see the light, and EJ appreciated her enthusiasm to back up his efforts with the drug that brought Lexie back to life.

EJ was sure that the drug he had was a money maker but didn’t want to talk about work. He suggested they get some dessert and order some after-dinner drinks.

Cat asked if he had talked to Sydney, and he said they were close. EJ was curious if Cat remembered ever seeing Samantha in the hospital they’d been in together. Cat said she couldn’t remember much on her own. 

EJ told Cat that he was going to do hypnotherapy with Marlena. Cat said that the brain protected people by withholding certain memories and asked if he really wanted to go down that path but he was sure.

Chad and Belle’s Dinner Date

Outside on the patio, Chad and Belle finally had their dinner date. They got caught up about Chad’s trip and the will reading; Chad said that Lexie’s return was weird. He told Belle that he planned on keeping the kids away from the drama and make them more Horton than DiMera.

Chad admitted that when he knew of the pod, he thought it could be Abigail in it. Belle said she understood since she wouldn’t put anything past EJ.

The date went well, and Chad asked Belle if she wanted to go out again, but as she accepted, he saw Cat and EJ together, and his face fell.

EJ and Cat greeted them before going for a walk in the park, then left, with Chad and Belle both clearly affected.

Amy Grieves Sophia

At the bridge, Mrs. Choi read the cards people left for Sophia as Sarah arrived for flowers. Sarah sympathized with her grief and understood when Amy said that without proof, she wouldn’t accept that she was really gone.

Amy complained that Holly hurt Sophia and that’s how she was in life, and never was held accountable for how she treated people. Sarah reminded her that Holly was her niece and was sure Holly had remorse for whatever she’d done.

“That’s where you’re wrong,” Amy said. She told her that Holly didn’t regret a thing. Sarah said she’d lost a child, and the person she struggled to forgive the most was herself.

Amy continued to talk about her grief and mentioned again that, although the flowers and tributes helped, the only person who hadn’t said a kind word was Holly.

Gabi Pays Off Liam

At the Kiriaskis mansion, Gabi asked Liam to come over without Ari knowing so she could make him an offer he couldn’t refuse. She handed him a check for $150,000 for him and his son to leave town immediately, and for good.

Gabi didn’t care that it was blackmail, as she didn’t think that he’d seen that much money before. Liam said he couldn’t leave his parents, and leaving would jeopardize his plea deal if he didn’t show up to tutoring with Julie.

Gabi said she’d talk to Julie and get permission to leave, but only if he agreed to leave town and never have any contact with Ari again. Liam agreed.

Ari and Holly Feel Differently About Sophia

At the pub, Ari and Holly had burgers and talked about Sophia and how, even though she was gone, she was still in their head. Ari said it haunted her that she had said things to Sophia she didn’t mean, but Holly didn’t regret a thing.

Ari and Holly clashed when Holly scolded Ari for being interested in Liam, but they insulted each other and then made up. 

Holly shared that it felt like she and Tate were moving in different directions but Ari said she’d always be with her. Holly told Ari that they had been through so much together and survived Sophia, so they’d be besties forever. “You’re my ride or die girl,” she smiled.

A Service Is Planned

After Holly left, Gabi came in and told Ari that Amy called and said there would be a service for Sophia the next day. Gabi said she knew Ari had complicated feelings but hoped it would be an opportunity for her to work through them.  Ari wasn’t sure, but Gabi gave her abuela’s advice, which changed her mind.

Meanwhile, when Sarah and Holly came home, Sarah told her about the service that Mrs. Choi was planning. Holly said she’d consider going.
