Days of our Lives Recap May 19: Lexie Wants to Meet Paulina, Abe Thanks EJ, Kayla Gives EJ Bad News

TL;DR: In today’s Days of our Lives recap, Abe agrees to Lexie’s request to meet Paulina. Alex and Stephanie agree he should skip the trip to China to spend time with Kelsey, and Kayla gives EJ bad news regarding his secret lab.

Days of our Lives Recap May 19

Abe went to the DiMera mansion and told EJ, “Thank you.” He also told him that he knew EJ had selfish motives, but said he knew how much he loved his sister.

Abe figured out that EJ told Theo about Lexie to get him to step down as DiMera CEO. EJ thought it was a foregone conclusion that Abe would leave Paulina for Lexie.

Abe snapped that EJ was capable of deserting someone he was supposed to love, but he had built a life with Paulina. EJ warned him that Paulina and Lexie weren’t patient women and asked how long he was going to kick the can down the road.

Philip Checked In On Joy

Philip saw Joy at the pub and met Kelsey. He sat down and said Chloe had texted him, asking him to check in on her. They caught up and Joy told him she’d come back to let Alex be part of Kelsey’s life.

Philip wished he could hire Joy back but told her they had a job freeze at Titan. He mentioned that Alex reinvested most of their inheritance back into the company, but Joy reminded him she wasn’t there for money.

Joy told Philip that all she wanted to do was be a good mom to Kelsey, with or without Alex’s help.

Stephanie and Alex Change Travel Plans

Stephanie came home and called out to Alex. When he didn’t answer, she took the gun out of her purse and put it in the drawer in the living room. 

Alex came in and told Stephanie he’d just met with Joy to discuss custody. “What did you decide?” Stephanie asked. Alex said they didn’t, and that he wouldn’t have made those types of decisions without her.

Alex said they needed to spend some quality time alone with Kelsey to get to know her, but thought that it would have to wait until after they came back from China. Stephanie said she’d been thinking about Tripp and Wendy’s wedding, and asked if he really wanted to come.

Alex agreed the timing wasn’t great,` but he wanted to go. Stephanie said he’d only be thinking about Kelsey anyway and said he should stay. Stephanie added that that first time should be just Alex with Kelsey anyway. 

After watching a movie and cuddling on the couch, Alex turned on some music, and they danced in the living room before making love on the couch.

Gabi and Theo Catch Up

Theo saw Gabi in the square. They sat down to chat, and he told her about his mom’s return and how worried he was about the choice his dad had to make, as he knew someone would get hurt no matter what.

Theo explained that he knew, which was why he stepped down as CEO. Gabi revealed that Tony didn’t want Johnny to replace him, and that he offered the position to her but she’d declined.

Philip arrived as Theo was leaving, and they made some strained small talk before Theo bolted. Philip took his seat, and they discussed Gabi receiving her inheritance and leaving DiMera behind for good. Meanwhile, Theo went into the pub, where he met Joy and Kelsey.

Lexie Opens Up to Kayla

Kayla went to run tests on Lexie but wanted to chat first. Lexie told her that she’d researched Paulina online and dwelled on some negatives. She supposed she was looking for reasons to hate the woman who married her husband.

Lexie explained that for everyone else, it was 15 years, but for her, it was like she just woke up from a long nap and she still loved Abe. Kayla told her that Abe mourned her for a very long time before he was open to someone else.

Kayla told Lexie that Paulina was funny and kind. Lexie was sure she was but said that Abe couldn’t have two wives. She wondered what Kayla thought Abe would do, but she thought it was best she talk to Abe about it.

Kayla said she would advise Abe that Lexie was strong enough to have tough conversations. Lexie thanked her, but said she wanted to meet Paulina.

Abe and Lexie Face Reality

Later, Abe came to the hospital and asked Kayla about Lexie. Before he went to see her, Kayla kept her word about telling him that she (and he) were strong enough to face their issues head-on. 

Abe went to see Lexie, who told him she wanted to meet Paulina. Abe balked but eventually admitted he could never say no to Lexie and promised to bring Paulina to meet her as soon as he could.

Kayla Gives EJ Bad News

When Abe walked away, EJ arrived at the nurses’ station. Kayla told him that there was an emergency board meeting about his secret lab. EJ reminded her that it was a private lab on hospital property, but he owned the property.

EJ said he kept the board for looks but could get rid of it any time he wanted. Kayla said he could, but in the meantime, they filed a complaint with the state regulatory and licensing agencies.
