Days of our Lives Recap Jan 29: Sophia wants Trey back with Melinda’s help

In the Days of our Lives recap for Thursday, January 29, 2026, Melinda is in for a shock, Chad and Jennifer reset their relationship, Bonnie is excited, and Sophia knows Chanel is pregnant.

In the Horton living room, Melinda pulled Chad aside just before he and Jennifer signed their agreement with Justin. Melinda said that giving in to a 10-year-old’s mercurial demands would be a big mistake.

Chad said Melinda couldn’t change his mind. Chad signed the papers, then handed them to Jennifer to sign. After Melinda and Justin left, Chad and Jennifer sat down to talk.

Jennifer feared they had permanently damaged their relationship. Chad told her that Abigail was his one true love, and it was enough for him. 

Chad recalled how, for a moment in the crypt, he thought the bones could be Abigail’s. Although Theo told him quickly they were from a man, the moment still haunted him.

Chad told Jennifer that it could’ve given them closure if the bones had been Abigail’s, and had mixed emotions about them being Stefano’s.

Jennifer listened as Chad told her that knowing Stefano wasn’t out there, judging him, and being disappointed anymore was liberating. “Truly,” he added.

Jennifer assured Chad that she would always have his back as a dad, especially during Thomas’ teen years. They told one another they wouldn’t ever talk negatively about one another in front of Thomas.

Chanel went to see Sophia, who pretended not to be able to talk. She listened as Chanel thanked her for Trey and empathized with what she must have gone through. Chanel assured Sophia that she and Johnny were dedicated to raising him.

Chanel offered to show Sophia photos, and Sophia nodded. As Sophia looked at the photos, Chanel felt nauseated, so she took something to settle her stomach. Sophia watched in curiosity as Chanel touched her abdomen.

Chanel asked if there was a note Sophia wanted to write for her, Johnny, or Trey, but she shook her head.

Chanel told Sophia that Trey was loved by many and that when she got out of Bayview, they wanted her to be part of his life, if that was what she wanted. Sophia turned and looked at Chanel, surprised. 

In their dorm room, Holly was so stressed that she was breaking out. Ari noted that it was hard for Holly to see Sophia but reminded her she was in Bayview for a reason.

Before they could argue, Gabi stopped by with new dresses for them. Gabi confronted Ari about having a fake I.D. Gabi said she was going to cut it up, but then decided to just ask her to be careful.

Johnny went to see Bonnie and asked if he could read her book on behalf of DiMera. She excitedly told him he could; when Justin came home, she told him Johnny was going to publish it.

Johnny tried to slow Bonnie down, but she wouldn’t curb her enthusiasm. He told her he’d start by reading the book and get back to her if DiMera was interested.

Once alone, Justin and Bonnie kept talking about the book. Bonnie just hoped they didn’t get a stalker like Alex and Stephanie. 

Johnny went home, and Chanel told him about her visit with Sophia. Although she thought it was an odd visit, Chanel was grateful for Sophia giving them Trey.

Johnny told Chanel he was working on a publishing project but didn’t want to say too much yet. He also told her about Stefano’s bones. 

At Bayview, Melinda came to see Sophia after getting her text. She figured out she had a phone. Sophia told her that she did. “Sophia, you can speak?” Melinda gasped.

Sophia told Melinda it wasn’t a breakthrough; she’d been able to speak for a while. She explained that pretending let everyone underestimate her, and what she was about to do.

Sophia thought that Chanel was pregnant and said they’d forget about her baby, which they stole, once their new baby was born. Melinda told her that stealing isn’t a synonym for adoption.

Sophia told Melinda she needed her experience to get her baby back — whether or not illegally.

Melinda warned Sophia that she was sounding obsessed. She told her to focus on therapy to get out of Bayview and start a new life.

Melinda visits Sophia at Bayview on Days of our LivesMelinda worried that Sophia was too bent on revenge, and told her firmly that Johnny and Chanel never meant to hurt her.

Sophia calmly smiled and assured Melinda that she was right. “I completely get what you’re saying,” she said simply. 

Before leaving, Melinda thanked Sophia for never telling anyone about her involvement when she faked the adoption. Sophia said she’d continue the discretion. “I can’t tell anyone if no one knows I can talk…right?” Sophia asked cryptically.
