Beyond the Gates Weekly Recap for May 25-29

Bill’s Health Takes a Dangerous Turn

This week on Beyond the Gates, Hayley got impatient and plied Bill with more poison, causing his hand to shake. Bill denied it when Joey noticed, but he confided his pre-stroke symptom to Hayley, who played on his dislike of hospitals to keep him from getting checked out. Leslie made another gambit to befriend Hayley, saying she might need her in whatever she was plotting against Bill. After Bill canceled his investigation into Lynette, Tomás told Kat she could continue on her own as long as she kept him out of it. News of Mike Davis handling the case against Madison had Dani berating Bill for having always given the harasser a free pass; she announced that Naomi hadn’t wanted to join him at his firm because of the toxic work environment.
Joey’s Secrets Continue to Haunt Him

Joey skillfully danced around Donnell’s questions about Doug’s death to the point that Donnell found himself trusting Joey again, which made Deanna livid. Deanna saw a vision of Doug, who instructed her to get Joey away from Vanessa and declared that Joey was the reason he was dead. Joey maintained his denials about being involved with the blood plasma ring when Vanessa relayed a message from Jacob, who was determined to see everyone connected to it behind bars. Her sense of grief about Doug renewed because of Derek’s death, Vanessa decided she needed to collect Doug’s things and put them away. Randy called Joey, informing him that The Impaler wanted to meet with him.
Nicole and Mona Face Personal Challenges

Mona shared her Type 2 diabetes diagnosis with Jan, who was surprised to learn that Black women were more susceptible to the condition. Nicole admitted to Kial that she had had a vision of Ted while in bed with Carlton. Later, Nicole adamantly refused Ted’s suggestion to take over as Garland Memorial’s chief of staff; Kial reasoned that Ted wanted Nicole in the position to be close to her.
Tyrell and Jessica Make a Difficult Decision

Tyrell confessed to Martin that losing his virginity to Jessica had been disappointing; Martin, who stunned Tyrell by recounting that his own first time had been with a girl, advised Tyrell not to compare his experience to societal expectations. After a talk with Samantha about the difficulty Tyrell seemed to be having with the idea of a long-distance relationship, Jessica told Tyrell that they should break up once they headed off to college on different coasts. Anita and Vernon attempted to make love but kept getting interrupted, first by Kat and then by Martin; Vernon finally took Anita to a hotel for some privacy.
Leslie Turns Derek’s Death Into a Public Spectacle

Leslie had little concern for Derek’s death outside of it leaving her clinic without a manager — plus, she suspected that partner Joey somehow blamed her for allowing plasma to be stolen from the facility. Unable to get confirmation of that from either Randy or Marcel, Leslie interrupted a press conference at the hospital and shed mock tears about Derek in a bid to convince everyone that the clinic was clean. She threw herself into Ted’s arms in front of reporters — and Shanice — to pay Ted back for demanding that she not talk to him unless it had something to do with Eva.
Jacob Confronts His Guilt

Derek’s bereaved father, Brian Baldwin, visited Ashley and held Jacob responsible for his son’s death, telling Jacob as much when he confronted him at the police station. With Brian taking Derek’s remains back to their hometown, Shanice and Ashley decided to hold their own memorial for Derek at Uptown, Derek’s favorite hangout. Jacob seemed increasingly uncomfortable while Derek’s friends and co-workers remembered him. Disheartened by Jacob’s distance, Naomi finally got him to admit that he agreed with Brian — it was his fault that his best friend Derek was dead.
What to Watch

Bill’s health symptoms continue to worsen as Hayley quietly manipulates him away from medical help, while Joey faces growing pressure from all sides as questions about Doug’s death and the blood plasma ring refuse to go away. Meanwhile, Jacob struggles under the weight of guilt over Derek’s death, and Naomi questions her ability to handle future undercover ops. But it’s not all bleak as the Duprees prepare to welcome the Newmans and Abbotts from Y&R’s Genoa City, and the Impaler is ready for a meeting.
