Beyond the Gates Recap September 4

In Seoul, Dani kept thinking about her last conversation with Bill. When Chelsea called, worried about ChelseaKat’s reputation, she suggested that Dani go to her father instead. Chelsea said Naomi was on the case but unavailable because she was in court.

Dani insisted that Chelsea see Bill so she could check on him for her and report back how he was. Later, Andre came in and was shocked when Dani thanked him for getting her new favorite champagne. Andre told her he didn’t buy it.

Andre panicked and tried to call the front desk to find out who sent it, but Dani hung up mid-conversation and told him to relax and enjoy it.

Dani insisted he sit in a chair and drink the champagne while she massaged his shoulders. Andre said it was helping, but his facial expressions said otherwise.

Heather Goes Too Far With Joey

At Joey’s, Heather told her brother that she could tell he had knocked off Doug to be with Vanessa. Behind them, Vanessa came in and said, “I don’t believe it,” but she meant she’d just gotten a text from Deanna. She was shocked that her daughter wanted her to come back out to meet her, but Vanessa got ready quickly. When Heather went to the kitchen to get some food, Joey called Randy and told him to go to Orphey Gene’s and find out what was going on.

Once alone, Heather pressed Joey hard about killing Doug. At first, he tried to make a joke out of it, then he warned her she was going too far. Heather asked about his expression and if it was the last thing Doug saw before he died. Joey warned her again, but she added that their father saw his face last, too.

Joey snapped and grabbed her by the arm, and roughly pushed her to the door. Heather backed down and apologized, but it was too late. Joey threw her out.

Randy Fishes For Information

Deanna sat in the booth at Orphey Gene’s and tried to call Doug by phone. A man who sounded like him answered, which had her hopeful for a moment, but she found out she had called the wrong number. After she ordered a milkshake, Randy stopped by her table.

Randy tried to fish for information for Joey, but all he found out before Vanessa arrived was that Deanna had some sort of life-changing information, though he didn’t know what it was. Randy left so she and Vanessa could talk, but texted a lie to Joey first that he didn’t find out anything.

Deanna Quits School

Once alone, Deanna announced she was quitting college. She pulled out an envelope that she’d found in Doug’s box labeled “Cause Of My Death.” Deanna said she was quitting because of it.

Vanessa opened the envelope and found tickets inside to an exhibit of the same name. Deanna said that when Doug bought the tickets, he didn’t know he wouldn’t live to go to it. She wanted to take a year or so off, but Vanessa thought it was a bad idea and wouldn’t be what Doug would want for her.

“How would you know what Dad would want? I’m the one talking to him,” Deanna snapped. Vanessa asked what she meant, but Deanna said she just meant she talked to him in her dreams and wrote notes to keep his memory alive.

Deanna blasted her mom for terminating the service on Doug’s phone and giving away his stuff at the club. She said she just wanted to move on with Joey. Deanna claimed she didn’t want to cause a scene but jumped out of her seat and accused her mom of being with a killer before running out.

Bill Gets Back On His Feet

Hayley couldn’t believe it when Bill woke up. She’d already texted Randy and told him that he was dead. Chelsea called and told Bill she needed to talk, so he offered to meet her at the club instead of her coming over.

Bill staggered a few times before leaving. When he got to the club, Chelsea told him the Takahashi deal had gone sideways. He didn’t think it was a big deal and sounded like Naomi had it handled.

Bill saw Ted at the bar and gave him a health update. Ted told him how a pacemaker worked and told him to check the app and review his discharge papers for instructions.

After Bill left, Heather came in for a drink and started talking to Ted. He was annoyed and asked her what she did with people who irritated her, and she laughed and said she just killed them.

Randy Shows Up, Expecting A Body

Meanwhile, Randy showed up at the house to see Hayley, which made her freak out. He said she told him Bill was dead, but she said he somehow survived and was at the club.

As Randy and Hayley started to talk about making a plan for their next steps and an exit strategy, Bill pulled up. Randy ran out the back as Bill came in the front door. He looked for the discharge papers, couldn’t find them, and reached for Hayley’s purse.

Hayley walked in and briskly took her purse away, then pulled out the discharge papers, which were hidden on a bookshelf. She checked her purse to ensure the bottle of poison was still there, then joined Bill on the couch as he followed the instructions for the app. Bill was relieved to see the pacemaker was working as it was supposed to.

Joey Offers To Break It Off With Vanessa

Vanessa returned to Joey’s, completely shaken. She barely managed to get in the door, then asked if Heather was still there. Vanessa cried that Deanna hated them and thought all the progress she’d made with her had gone out the window.

Joey told Vanessa that he wouldn’t come between them and suggested that they break up so she could prioritize Deanna. Vanessa didn’t want that. She said that she loved Joey and nothing would ever change that.
