Beyond the Gates Recap October 1: Caroline Confesses to Hayley, Jacob Questions Smitty Again, Bill Returns To Work

TL;DR: In today’s Beyond the Gates recap for Thursday, October 1st, 2026, Bill returns to work after his hospitalization and plans his divorce from Hayley, Jacob questions Smitty again about Lia’s death, Caroline turns against Hayley, and Kat and Tomas reconcile.

Beyond the Gates Recap October 1

At the hospital, Chelsea told Madison her dad wanted the charges dropped and thought the poison caused brain damage. Madison told her that Bill had already been released.

Chelsea didn’t think her dad should have been allowed to leave, but Madison said there were no more traces of poison in his body. She assured Chelsea that Bill was fully recovered. Chelsea worried Hayley would come after him again and do something violent, but Madison asked if she meant Allison.

Chelsea said it was about almost losing her dad and how much she loved her parents. She didn’t expect Madison to understand since she didn’t have much of a relationship with hers. Madison overlooked her swipe and tried to empathize, saying that Chelsea was caught up in her emotions. 

Bill Returns To Work

Dani took Bill to his office when he was released from the hospital. He saw all the files stacked up; Dani said it was supposed to be discovery against Hayley, but offered to burn them. She told him that she’d called his cleaning service to have Hayley’s stuff packed up, too.

They talked about Hayley’s threats and how Bill was protecting Dani’s family. He warned that if she kept holding his hand like this, Andre might get jealous. Dani assured him that her incredible husband didn’t have a bit of pettiness in him.

Dani quipped that Andre was probably enjoying seeing him outwitted and outsmarted by Hayley. “Who says the game is over?” Bill asked. He told Dani that he was going to do the divorce paperwork himself and include some tailored clauses.

Bill hugged Dani before she left and thanked her for her friendship. But in the hall, she was thinking about the elevator. Back in Bill’s office, he took photos of Hayley and smashed them.

Jacob Needs A New Win

At the police station, Jacob was frustrated that Hayley was caught with the poison on her and he couldn’t get a prosecution. Elon got a call that made it official: Hayley’s charges were dropped.

Jacob lamented about Smitty’s case, noting that his wife intervened when he questioned him. Jacob noted that the video looked damning but had no audio.

Elon asked whether Jacob had any doubts about it, if the person in question was anyone but Smitty. Jacob reminded him it was his job to question things. Elon advised not to let the fear of the Duprees stop him from going all in. 

Caroline Confronts Hayley

Caroline and Naomi talked, and she told her that she’d amped up security to keep Hayley out of the hospital. Caroline admitted she’d faked being Hayley’s friend the whole time and was looking forward to her going to prison.

Naomi told Caroline that Bill needed some convincing to convict Hayley. Caroline thought Dani was more influential than anyone. Just then, Naomi got a call from Jacob, telling her the toxicology report on the substance in Lia’s pouch was back. He told her that he needed to question Smitty again with his lawyer present.

After Naomi left, Hayley came in. Caroline approached her to snark about what she did, but Hayley said they could still be friends, and she’d have money to play with. Caroline revealed that Hayley wasn’t the only one who could put on an act. “I’ve always despised you,” Caroline told her.

Hayley blew it off, saying she didn’t want to be friends. Caroline added that she might not get prosecuted, but hinted there would be other ways karma to work its magic on her.

Martin and Smitty Do Damage Control

Martin and Smitty met with Shonda’s team member, Kendra, to develop a strategy to counter any attacks over Smitty’s questioning. She said a statement from the police would go a long way, but Smitty didn’t think it was possible.

Martin assured Smitty they would get through it together, and if he lost the election, so be it. Smitty got a text from Naomi about being called to the station. He wouldn’t let Martin go with him but left to talk to the police.

Smitty Is Questioned Again

At the station, Martin showed up anyway. Jacob questioned his presence and said that it was out of the ordinary for him to be there, but Martin said that the whole thing was out of the ordinary. 

Jacob claimed they liked to keep these things low-key and have as few people as possible involved. Martin told Jacob tersely that his opponent already knew about the previous questioning, so he doubted how firm Jacob was on confidentiality. Jacob said he called in Smitty to find out how the pouch came into Lia’s possession.

Jacob showed Smitty a photo of Max passing him the pouch. He told Smitty that he’d understand if Lia offered him a favor, but Smitty denied handing her the pouch. He told Jacob the video was fake and that he hadn’t seen Max in months.

Elon listened as Smitty explained that hte Impaler wanted him to take the fall for Lia’s death and faked the video. He asked Jacob to believe him.

Kat and Tomas Make Up

Kat and Tomas came into Orphey Gene’s to apologize for their fights, but instead of saying sorry, they started bickering. They were interrupted by Hayley, who let Tomas know there were no hard feelings for not being her lawyer — and that her charges had been dropped.

Kat promised to make replacing the DAs a priority in Martin’s campaign. Tomas told Hayley Bill would probably get a restraining order keeping her off the law office premises, but Hayley was thrilled not to have to push papers anymore. She wished him luck working with Naomi.

After Hayley left, Kat assured Tomas that she was just trying to get under his skin and that she’d always believed he made a better #2 to Bill than her cousin. Kat and Tomas made up as Chelsea came in.

Tomas left for work, and Chelsea took his seat. She told Kat that Bill had the charges dropped. Kat figured Hayley was blackmailing him somehow, but promised to help her figure it out.
