Beyond the Gates Recap May 7

Bill and Tomas reviewed a case, but Bill was still bitter about him letting Kat be involved. Kat walked in and challenged Bill to talk about her to her face.

Kat told Bill what happened when she talked to Lia, but he told her that it was all none of her business. He warned that she should stay out of his business or he’d have a chat with Chelsea about her moonlighting.

Kat snapped that Chelsea wasn’t her boss, and that Tomas was her partner so anything that involved him was her business.

Bill told Kat that he loved her, but he wasn’t going to worry every time he needed Tomas to work, that Kat was involved somehow. Tomas scrambled to tell Bill that he understood but Kat told him she planned on talking to Lia again. Bill told Kat clearly to get out of his business.

In the hall, Kat told Tomas that she was still going to do what she wanted. He pleaded with her that if she didn’t respect the rules, then his time as junior partner could be over.

Vanessa Looks For a Sale

Vanessa approached Hayley at Uptown and asked if she was still interested in the penthouse she was going to buy to lease to Lynette. Hayley seemed taken aback that Vanessa even knew about it.

Hayley sweetly advised that she and Bill had invested in St. Bart’s and weren’t interested in a penthouse anymore. She explained that she was only interested because she felt obligated, but it turned out she was being taken advantage of.

Joey Tasks Randy

In the casino back room, Joey checked in with Randy about following Smitty and wanted to know what he had. Randy said that Vinny just saw Smitty leaving Uptown. Joey told him to go trail him himself and let him know what the reporter was up to.

Randy followed Smitty to Jacob’s motel room and watched him go in. He got a text from Hayley saying to meet her at Uptown, and that it was important.

In the motel room, Smitty told Jacob that there was an uptick in activity with the donation trucks. “Like The Impaler is gearing up for something big?” Jacob asked. He said he hadn’t heard from Ren in a few days but just then got a message from him.

Ren told Jacob he had a new assignment for him, but Jacob told Smitty it didn’t feel right and he worried that it was a trap.

Meanwhile, at Uptown, Randy met Hayley, who told him that Vanessa wasn’t suspicious of her at all and they were sailing to easy street. They drank to celebrate.

Grayson Warns Lia

Lia got a call letting her know that “eyes were on them,” so she said she would follow up. Lia went to Nicole’s office, who was expecting someone else. Lia updated that Marcel was on the case, and asked if she remembered anyone who could have been in her office that day.

Nicole flashed back to knowing Smitty was there, but didn’t name him to Lia. Carlton came in and Lia was unusually friendly with the two of them before leaving. Once alone, Carlton showed Nicole tickets to go go-karting on their date, and she happily accepted.

When Lia returned to the nurses’ station, Grayson grabbed her arm and pulled her aside. He warned her to leave Ashley out of it, or he’d blow her whole operation sky-high. “You think I’m bluffing? Try me,” he growled.

Lia told Grayson that if he thought she was a monster, he should remember who they worked for. Grayson suggested he wanted out, but she laughed at the notion and told him he should know by now there was no getting out.

Grayson Wants to Run Away With Ashley

At Ashley’s, Naomi told her friend that if Grayson was tied up in something that got him stabbed intentionally, coming to her was putting her in danger. Ashley asked about Smitty, but Naomi didn’t see how he could be involved and didn’t want to ask him.

Suddenly there was loud pounding at the door. When Ashley opened it, Grayson rushed in and told her to pack clothes for a few days and to hurry so they could get his mom. Ashley shoved the bags he brought back at him, and Naomi told him that was a no.

Grayson and Naomi squabbled when she said they should go to the police, and he told her that he wasn’t the only one keeping secrets from his partner. He accused Naomi of having a dirty cop for a husband and neither she nor Ashley flinched. Grayson freaked out, wondering what they knew and who was involved with what.

Ashley Breaks Up With Grayson

Ashley got upset, telling him that she was done with the situation, and him. Grayson asked her to be careful, and Naomi showed him the door.

Naomi called just Jacob and asked if he was investigating Grayson. She told him that someone was watching Ashley and that he had shown them a photo someone had sent him of her. Naomi said that she wasn’t in the photo, but she was there with her that day.

Jacob told her to stay put, and he was calling his dad to get them protection. When he hung up, he told Smitty, “They’re watching Naomi.” He had a policeman watch Ashley’s apartment and said as long as they stayed there, they’d be safe.

Ashley defiantly left for her shift, despite Jacob’s instructions. Naomi said she’d wait there for her and would be there when she got back from work.

Joey Misses His Sister

Vanessa went to the casino and saw Joey reading a letter from his sister Heather, telling him that she needed a clean break to become the woman she wanted to be. Vanessa asked what he was reading so he told her.

Joey was upset that he hadn’t seen or heard his sister in years, and said he thought about her every year on that day. He knew wherever she was, she would be thriving, but he still missed her.

Joey said that it was the day she left, and he honored her by thinking about her and then releasing it again. Vanessa understood and told Joey he could talk more about her when he was ready.

Loose Ends

After go-karting, Nicole and Carlton went for a drink and marveled at her driving. Kat and Tomas came in and saw them kissing across the room. They said hello but didn’t join them, but Kat went back to tell her mom in front of Carlton how much it warmed her heart to see her with a man who treated her the way that he did.

Meanwhile, at the law office, Bill had just been on the phone with the private eye when Hayley came in and was clearly tipsy. She wanted to get frisky with her husband. Bill asked who she was drinking with and noticed she’d been drinking more than usual and thought she was overcompensating for something. She told him to stop bringing down the vibe and poured him a drink.
