Beyond the Gates Recap May 1: Kat IDs a Lynette Victim, Ted and Nicole Reconnect, and Vernon Deals With Joey

TL;DR: In today’s Beyond the Gates recap, Vernon takes on Martin’s debt to Joey to protect his grandson from a secret that could send him to jail. Kat makes a shocking discovery in the Lynette investigation when she recognizes a victim. Bill takes Andre’s place at the table, only to be shooed away by Naomi.

Beyond the Gates Recap May 1

Dani wanted real food instead of Andre’s suggested protein shake, so they went to Orphey Gene’s. 

At the club, Naomi explained to Chelsea how Dani wa slooking for a more important role in her life. They tried asking her to meet them, but decided to go to Orphey Gene’s instead.

Siblings Unite

On what would have been Ted and Nicole’s wedding anniversary, everyone messaged Nicole to let her know they were a phone call away if she needed a friend or comforting.

Kat and Martin had an early morning coffee at the brownstone and talked abou their parents’ marriage blowing up at the anniversary party the year before. 

At one point, Kat teased that he was a hypocrite and it hit a nerve. He lost his temper and then told her that he’d been called that label a lot lately and it bothered him.

After discussing Tyrell’s grounding, the siblings agreed that Kat would track down Nicole, and Martin would be there for Ted.

Happy Non-Anniversary

At Ted’s office, he and Eva talked about the day and how much had changed. Later, Ted saw Nicole, and they agreed it was an odd day for both of them.

Nicole talked to Ted about her concerns about Martin and the campaign. She said he was considering a Senate run; she was concerned that Joey would use the secret against Martin somehow, and he’d wind up in prison.

Nicole and Ted were on the same page about everything. She told him that she’d need his support just as much as Martin would.

Ted and Nicole reminisced about the night they met at the convention in Hawaii and how they stayed up all night talking. Ted admitted that Carlton noticed her as well, and was going to approach her but Ted pointed him in the wrong direction and got to her first.

Ted thought Nicole would now be wondering “what if” but she wasn’t. They agreed they’d come a long way in a year. As Martin walked in behind them, Ted and Nicole hugged.

Vernon Makes a Deal With Joey

Vernon met Joey at Uptown and questioned him about his offer to provide private security to Martin. He told him to back off.

Joey pushed back a little at the implied insults Vernon was dishing out and said he genuinely tried to help and didn’t realize it would imply influence to the illegal games commissions.

Vernon accepted Joey’s apology but wondered what the FEC thought of his other, bigger favors to Martin over the years. Joey made it clear that he respected what Martin did that night to save Vernon, but didn’t want to rewrite history.

Joey told Vernon that Martin owed him, and one day he would collect. Vernon seethed that if he wanted to collect from someone, it would be him, and ordered Joey to leave Martin alone, then they shook on it.

Tomas Updates Bill

Bill and Tomas had breakfast at Orphey Genes and discussed his progress with the P.I. about Lynette. They deduced that she could still be out there, lying low to avoid charges.

Dani and Andre came in and interrupted, and Dani immediately asked how the search for Lynette was going. Dani rambled into all the details she knew but shouldn’t, and Tomas explained she’d walked in on his conversation with Vanessa.

Dani gleefully shared with Bill that Hayley had introduced Lynette to her as if they were close friends. She asked Bill how he knew for sure that they didn’t go way back, and he said he introduced them.

Bill Takes Andre’s Seat

Bill watched as Dani and Andre were joined by Naomi and Chelsea. When Andre left for the gym, he took his seat.

Naomi asked him to discuss Madison’s lawsuit and pulled him away back to his booth. Once there, she said she wanted to give Dani and Chelsea some one-on-one time. 

Naomi explained how Dani felt about not being needed and missing when her daughters were younger. “I told her if she felt that strongly about it, she should just have more kids,” Naomi shrugged. Bill shook his head in disbelief and asked, “You said what?”

Naomi was surprised to learn that Bill and Hayley mutually agreed not to have a child after all. She told her dad that Dani was happy with Andre and told him to let her be, even if he didn’t like it.

Kat Has A Lead On Lynette

Kat met Tomas at Uptown and told him she was trying to reach her mom, but her mom was ghosting her. Tomas told her that Bill greenlit the Lynette investigation but got distracted by Dani.

Tomas showed Kat a list of Lynette’s victims, and Kat gasped. She pointed to someone on the list and said, “I know that woman!”
