Beyond the Gates Recap June 23: Kat Relives the Past Before Waking Up

Beyond the Gates Recap June 23

In Eva’s hospital room, Leslie promised Eva that Kat would be okay. She said there was no way she could be taken after saving her daughter’s life.

Meanwhile, Ted talked to Kat, telling her to fight because he needed both of his daughters. He got a text from Leslie asking how Kat was, and Nicole encouraged him to go see them. Ted mused that he always hoped the three of them would agree on something, but never dreamed it would be this.

In Eva’s room, Leslie told her she was looking better by the second. They both wanted to see Kat and thank her. “I owe her everything,” Leslie said. They shared their sentiments when Ted came to see them, but he told them that Kat was unresponsive.

The Family Rallies Around Nicole and Ted

In the waiting room, Dani told Vernon all she knew about what happened with Kat, which wasn’t much. She went to check in with Nicole, and they talked in the hallway, with Dani giving her as much support as she could.

Tomas paced nervously, and Chelsea and Naomi looked to Shanice for some positive encouragement, but she was vague, and they walked away disappointed.

Ted went through the waiting room and told them that Eva was doing well, but there was no change in Kat. He hoped the next time he saw them, he’d have better news. Ted returned to Kat’s room with Nicole.

Martin told Vernon that he felt guilty for pushing Kat to have the surgery. Vernon told him to have faith. Dani praised her parents for handling the crisis with determination and grace and leading the family through it. Chelsea encouraged everyone to speak positively in case Kat picked up on their energy.

Kat Dreams of the Family’s Past

While Kat was sleeping, she dreamt about seeing her parents twenty-ish years ago. It began with Ted coming to Nicole and telling her that he had fallen in love with someone else. Nicole went ballistic, but it got worse: Leslie was pregnant.

Next, Kat found herself at Dani’s and realized that they were still married. They talked about Bill trying to pay off Leslie, but how she and Ted insisted they were in love. Dani complained about how that would look with them walking around town, parading their relationship, and then she and Bill argued about his own infidelities.

Kat went to her grandparents’ home for help, but when she walked in, they were consoling her mom. She heard her reveal that she was pregnant and how unhappy she was about it. Kat realized she was talking about being pregnant with her and heard her mom say that she didn’t want her miracle baby now that Ted was having a baby with someone else and wouldn’t be with her.

Kat went to see Shanice so she could tell her straight what was going on, but instead found her checking in a pregnant Leslie for her prenatal appointment. She watched a supportive Ted go with her and wondered what about her mom and why no one seemed to care.

Kat Sees a Different Version of Her Family

In her dream, time fast-forwarded a few years. Kat and Nicole were at the country club when Ted and Leslie came in. With everything perfect in their lives, Nicole snarled at Leslie angrily, no matter what she said, and asked Ted why he acted like he had two kids instead of three. Ted explained that Kat was desperate for attention and was being mean to Eva so they had to keep them separated.

Next, Anita, Dani, and Naomi glowed about Eva at cotillion and how Kat was just a diva and didn’t get one vote for Platinum Deb. Dani said that Nicole wasn’t doing Kat justice as a mom and complained that she never got over her divorce. Anita said she was very disappointed in Kat, and she couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

Kat went to Uptown, where Martin, Chelsea, and Tomas were ready to celebrate his campaign. She thought she had finally found a normal environment, but when Eva came in, she realized she and Tomas were together. Worse, Eva and Chelsea had a handbag company called Cheva.

Behind them, Nicole was drunk on the dance floor, and Kat heard Martin talk to his cousins about her. The way they described Nicole and Eva was the same way Kat talked about Leslie and Eva. Martin said the same things he has been saying to Kat about seeing things from Eva’s perspective. Eva responded with the unforgiving things that Kat had been saying about Eva this past year.

Kat was taken aback when Eva said Kat’s line about how she may be blood, but she wasn’t one of them, and that their lives would have been better if she had never been born. Eva turned to her and said it hurt to be talked about like that, and Kat agreed.

Kat Wakes Up

Then, a stunned Kat walked through the clubhouse lobby when her dad greeted her. “You can see me?” she asked. Ted said it was more important how she saw herself. Kat told him that she was ready to share Eva with him because that was better than losing him. A relieved and happy Ted hugged her.

Back in Kat’s hospital room, Nicole and Ted were at Kat’s side as she came to. Nicole gently explained that she was in the hospital but would be okay.
