Beyond the Gates Recap June 17: Kat Refuses to Get Tested for Eva
TL;DR: In today’s Beyond the Gates recap, Kat refused to get tested as a potential donor for Eva despite emotional pleas from Ted and Izaiah. Leslie feared hope was slipping away after Martin and Smitty were ruled out as matches, while Nicole found comfort with Kial after the tornado.
Beyond the Gates Recap June 17

Nicole brought Samantha and Tyrell home, showered, then returned Kial’s call. He offered to come over, and she said she’d like that. When he arrived, she cried to him about what happened at the club and all she went through.
Nicole told Kial that she couldn’t help but think about the past, and how it used to be her and Ted talking about what had happened and how grateful they were to have gotten through it. “But now he has Shanice,” she said wistfully. “And you have me,” Kial added.
Nicole nodded in agreement, and then they went to her bedroom, but she first made it clear that they wouldn’t be doing anything but cuddling.
Leslie Fears the Worst for Eva

At the hospital, Martin and Smitty found out they weren’t matches. Shanice went into Eva’s room and told Ted that Martin wanted to talk to him. Once alone, Leslie noted that Shanice was being kind to her and asked if she’d spared her more trauma by the way she got Ted for Martin. “Martin and Smitty aren’t matches, are they?” Leslie asked sadly.
Alone with Eva, Leslie sat with her daughter and told her how much she loved her. She had regrets and promised she would use anything and do whatever she could for her.
Izaiah Pressures Kat

In the hospital stairwell, Izaiah found Kat. He told her that he knew how she’d treated Eva for so long but he also understood why, and the resentment she had for her. But he also pointed out that the clock was ticking and they were going to run out of time finding a match.
Kat snapped that if she got a blood test and she was a match, it would just lead to more tests and everyone pressuring her to cut open her body and give a piece of it to someone she hated.
Kat listed the reasons why, like how Eva slept with her boyfriend and how her mom attempted murder twice, yet still supported her. Izaiah asked if this was her way of getting revenge. He said that while she stood on her moral high ground, Eva could die and didn’t know how she could live with herself if she did.
Ashley Reaches Out to Grayson

Ashley came home and found Jan waiting for her. They were relieved to see one another, until Grayson texted again. Ashley didn’t want to deal with him, but Jan convinced her to at least text him back and let him know she was okay.
Reluctantly, Ashley sent a message that she was alright. After a pause, she added that she hoped he and his mom were okay, too.
Ted Listened to Kat

Ted found Kat in the stairwell and hugged her. She asked if he was there for her or about Eva; he said it was both. Kat said everyone is acting like there was only one answer in the situation. Ted noted that earlier she asked if there was something she could do and this was it, her chance to do something for Eva.
Kat snapped that no one heard her. That no one looked at her like she was Kat anymore. Everyone was looking at her like she was just a spare part that they needed. “Is that how you really feel?” Ted asked.
Ted told Kat that she was the heart and soul of him. He recounted moments of her growing up and told her how much she meant to him. Kat wished things were as simple as they were growing up. “Because your mom and I protected you. We made the hard choices the best we could but now you have to make the hard choices,” Ted advised.
Ted Makes an Emotional Plea

Kat asked her dad if he’d forgive her if she didn’t get tested. Ted explained that it wasn’t about whether or not he’d be mad at her; it was about saving Eva.
Kat said she wanted time to think about it, but Ted told her they were running out of time before Eva died. She pointed out there was a donor bank, and maybe they’d find someone there who could help. Ted agreed it was possible. He implored Kat to just get tested while she thought about it, but she jumped up and refused.
“I don’t want to be a match!” she seethed before running up the stairs. Ted called out after her to stop, and she did. But when he asked her not to do it for Eva but for him, she ran off.
