TL;DR: In today’s Beyond the Gates recap, Martin lashed out at Kat for hesitating to get tested as Eva’s condition grew more dire, while Dani confessed her guilt over Bill to Vanessa. Meanwhile, Hayley and Bill questioned each other’s loyalty, and Joey bid an emotional farewell to Heather.

Beyond the Gates Recap June 16

At the hospital, Kat lied to Nicole in a text that she was with Tomas and okay. Ted returned to the waiting area, and Kat told him that Tomas had to go see his mentee from the Big Brothers program, who was alone and scared. Ted scolded that Kat should have come first.

Kat told Ted again that she didn’t know Eva was as hurt as she was and felt bad about it, so Ted soothed her concerns. He reassured her again that she was not to blame for what happened.

In his hospital room, Martin was eager to leave and wanted to stand while they waited for his release papers, even though Madison suggested he stay the night. Impatient, Martin decided to get checked by his father and get his opinion on if he could be discharged to override Smitty.

When they stepped off the elevator, Martin was alarmed to see Ted with Kat and knew something was wrong. They told him that Eva needed a liver transplant. Just then, Ted was notified that he wasn’t a compatible donor.

Martin immediately asked to be tested. Smitty and Ted were concerned about his concussion but agreed that if he was a match and could save Eva’s life without risking his own, it was worth getting tested.
“That settles it,” Martin said determinedly. Smitty immediately offered to get tested as well, and they walked away together with the technician.

Kat Faces Martin’s Wrath

Meanwhile, Eva was brought to a room on a ventilator, and Leslie and Izaiah stayed with her. They talked to her calmly, telling her how she was going to pull through.

Izaiah mentioned to Leslie that he wasn’t tested as he had the wrong blood type. Leslie couldn’t believe she wasn’t a match when she was told. Meanwhile, Kat asked Andre to be tested, but he couldn’t because of his injuries.

In the waiting area, Izaiah told Smitty, Kat, and Martin that they were out of options. Kat told them that she called Andre, but Izaiah explained that he was there when Andre called Ted, who told him he wasn’t a candidate because of the medication he was on.

Martin asked Kat what she was waiting for and questioned why she wasn’t volunteering to get tested. When she balked, he went off on her, calling her Princess Kat and noting that she always hated Eva. He told her to grow up. Kat shot back that he wasn’t being a big brother to her when she needed him. Kat cried that he was assuming she was acting out of pettiness, but she had real fears. To Martin, the only fear was that Eva would die without a donor.

Vanessa Finds Hope After the Storm

At Joey’s, Vanessa talked to Donnell on the phone, and he assured her he was fine. Joey and Vanessa talked about the tornado, and she asked him not to play the hero anymore, as she didn’t want to lose another man she loved. Vanessa told Joey she’d meet him in bed after texting Deanna one more time.

Dani Confesses to Vanessa

Dani brought Andre home and got him settled in so he was comfortable with his injured leg. He didn’t want her to fuss over him and told her again how bad he felt about her being stuck alone in an elevator. Andre told Dani that all he could think about was her and that he wondered if she was safe.

Dani cried that when she got out of the elevator and realized he’d been hurt, she felt awful that she wasn’t there for him. She cried on his shoulder that she didn’t know what she would do if she ever lost him.

Dani felt even worse as Andre told her that she was his whole world and couldn’t imagine what he would do if he had lost her, either. After Andre fell asleep on the couch, Dani snuck outside with her phone and called Vanessa, saying she needed to see her.

Vanessa came right over, and she and Dani went up to the bedroom to talk. Dani told her what happened with Bill and how bad she felt about it.

Bill and Hayley Question Each Other

A tree had fallen, preventing access to Bill and Hayley’s house, so they went to a hotel. While unpacking the clothes and supplies they had bought at the hotel store, Hayley again noted that Bill’s clothes were awfully clean for having been in a stairwell during the tornado.

Hayley read about the Abbott family and all of their success and connection with Katherine Chancellor. She was impressed at their wealth, but Bill wondered if he should be jealous at her sudden interest. He said she sounded like someone anxious to visit her new friend Kyle in Genoa City.

Bill noted that she had spent a lot of time with Kyle before the tornado, and then they were trapped alone together. “Isn’t that your type?” he mused. Hayley snapped that he was implying she would have cheated on him and said she would never do that. She added that she also knew he would never cheat on her.

Joey Says Goodbye to Heather

Joey got back up and told security to follow Vanessa and that he was expecting someone. Heather came over to tell him that she was heading to London right away — unless he’d reconsidered partnering up.

Joey assured her that he wasn’t interested in that as Heather noticed the photo of him and Vanessa. She asked him about her, but Joey was tight-lipped other than to say she was off-limits. When Heather left, Joey hugged her goodbye and asked her not to be a stranger.
