Beyond the Gates Recap July 9: Naomi Tells Jacob the Truth and Dani Reaches a Breaking Point

Beyond the Gates Recap July 9

At the Dupree mansion, Anita was feeling good, but Vernon was doting anyway. Kat came in and told them she’d be moving out soon because she’d bought a place, arranged an interior designer, and should be moving in a couple of weeks.

Vernon thought she should be on the couch with Anita, recuperating. Kat thought a near-death experience taught her to own her independence and own her own place.

After Kat went out, Anita lamented that she was going to ask Kat if she wanted to redecorate her wing, but Vernon thought she’d never leave. The pair snuggled up on the couch for more canoodling.

Andre and Jacob Look Ahead

At the club, Andre and Jacob were in the change room, and Jacob told him this was the best he felt since his undercover op. He felt like Jacob was back. He said that he and Naomi had reconnected the night before.

Andre hoped the family was on the mend from all the recent drama. He told Jacob how Dani hadn’t been herself since the tornado and being stuck in the elevator alone really affected her. “She must have been climbing the walls,” Jacob said.

Naomi Confides in Dani

At Dani’s, Naomi told her mom about her evening with Jacob but got emotional telling her that she had been keeping a secret from her husband and family. Dani assumed she cheated on him while he was undercover and said no one would blame her for it if she did. Naomi was taken aback and said she would never.

Naomi told her mom the truth about her having the BRCA gene, and that she couldn’t say it earlier by choice. She said everyone was rallying for Anita and she didn’t want to add to it. Dani encouraged her to tell Jacob, confident that he would support her as well.

Kat Makes Peace With Martin

Samantha concerned Smitty and Martin when she revealed that Tyrell thought he could romance Jessica into not leaving for California. They thought he was setting himself up for disaster.

Kat dropped by the brownstone and said her near-death experience gave her a to-do list. “Yesterday, bought a condo. Today? Apologize to my brother,” she said.

Martin told Kat he owed her the apology and that he was so caught up in saving one sister, he wasn’t there for the other. He acknowledged how huge it was that he was asking her to give a part of her body to someone she couldn’t stand.

Kat thanked him for finally seeing it her way. She surprised them all by saying that she and Eva had a good talk, then told them about the dream she’d had during surgery.

Tyrell’s Tattoo Shocks the Family

Tyrell and Samantha went to the club to play pickleball, which he thought was a watered-down version of tennis. In the dining room, Tyrell suggested that they get tattoos. He said they should pick something that meant something to each of them and then get them done together.

When they returned to the brownstone, Jessica showed everyone her ankle tattoo that said, “Women are both beautiful and dangerous.” Tyrell was asked if he supported Jessica during her tattoo and he said he did one better. He lifted his pant leg and showed them the “J” he had on his ankle.

Everyone was taken aback by it and questioned his choices. It didn’t help that they all knew Jessica planned to dump him soon. Tyrell eased their worries and made Samantha very happy when he said the J was for his mother, June.

Naomi Tells Jacob Her Decision

When Jacob came home, he was happy to see Naomi. She told him right away that she had something to tell him and that she had the BRCA gene.

Jacob understood why she didn’t want to tell her family with everything going on, but couldn’t fathom why she wouldn’t have told him. Naomi explained that when he was undercover, any little distraction could have cost him his life, and she wasn’t going to take the chance.

Naomi said she also had needed time to process the news. She told Jacob that she’d looked into it and spoken to Carlton, and she wanted to get a double mastectomy.

Dani Pushes Andre Away

Andre came home and Dani rushed into his arms, saying that she needed him and to hold her. She told him that she had given her daughter the BRCA gene and felt awful.

Andre listened to Dani and supported her, and noted that it wasn’t her fault and that there were options for prevention. He suggested that they talk about those options for Dani, but she balked. She snapped that everyone accuses her of being all about herself, but here she was wanting to care about her daughter, and he wouldn’t let her.

Andre explained that there was nothing wrong with caring for herself and how they all loved her and wanted her around a long time. Dani could tell he was talking about mastectomies and told him she was a model and her body would not be altered.

“I love the woman behind the body,” Andre said. Dani got upset and told him that her physicality was her identity. She said if he couldn’t listen to her, then she’d find someone who would and stormed out the door.
