Beyond the Gates Recap July 6

At the hospital, Izaiah showed up with a huge bouquet for Eva as Tomas wheeled Kat onto the elevator. Eva and Kat caught one another’s eye and gave a small smile to the other.

Izaiah and Leslie brought Eva home. Leslie had a suitcase waiting for a homecoming gift. It had ski boots inside as motivation to get better, and Leslie planned to take her and Izaiah on their first ski trip together when she was healed. She said she wanted them to experience new things together.

Eva appreciated the thought and thanked her mom. Darlene dropped by and said that Jacob told her Eva was coming home. She brought her some food, and wished her well, then made her exit. Shortly thereafter, Eva hinted to Leslie she should do the same.

Eva and Izaiah spent some quality time together, alone. They talked about their future, and were both still on the same page about their relationship.

Kat Comes Home to a Surprise

At the Duprees, the family gathered to await Kat and Tomas’ arrival for a surprise party. Word rippled through that Tomas planned to propose. Naomi thought that Chelsea should have forewarned Kat. Anita and Vernon agreed with Nicole and Ted that Kat wasn’t ready.

Kial arrived, and Andre noted that it must be strange for Ted to be in the house with another man on Nicole’s arm, but he said he felt only gratitude.
When Kat came in, they all yelled ‘surprise’ and welcomed her home. Anita, Naomi, and Chelsea noted there was no ring on Kat’s finger, so they thought there was nothing to worry about.

…but it’s not the only shock of the day

Vernon began to give a speech, but Tomas stood up and interrupted. Kat told Tomas that they didn’t usually interrupt her granddad, but Tomas was confident no one would mind.

Tomas told Kat that her family called her their miracle. He agreed and said she was his as well. He noted her attributes that he wanted to relish in until the day he left the earth, got on one knee, and pulled out a ring. “Katherine Richardson, would you do me the honor of my life and marry me?” Tomas asked as he opened the box.

Everyone held their breath as Kat reacted. She quickly pulled Tomas out of the room and asked him what he was doing. Noting that not long ago, he wasn’t ready for her to move in, she thought they weren’t on the same page and rejected his proposal.

Tomas took the news pretty well, and had no problem returning to the party. He told Kat he wasn’t embarrassed for loving her. Later, Vernon finished the speech.

Joey Puts Deanna Under Suspicion

Deanna talked to Doug’s photo on her phone, saying that she knew exactly what to do about Vanessa.

Meanwhile, at the casino, Vanessa happily told Joey that she was going to meet Deanna for a spa day. She thought Deanna had always been hot and cold and was running with her new attitude.

Joey, however, wasn’t as keen. After Vanessa left, he called Randy to do a job. Joey asked Randy if Deanna would recognize him the way Donnell did. Randy wasn’t sure and wondered why Joey was asking. “She’s the job,” Joey said.

Joey told Randy that Deanna’s sudden change of heart was suspicious. He thought that she might be trying to get close enough to Vanessa to get a little something to use against him. Randy was conflicted, as Doug was his best friend and Deanna was his daughter. Joey said the best thing he could do for his friend’s daughter was find out what she was up to before it went too far.

Deanna Makes a Move

At the spa, Deanna was kind and supportive, and credited Vanessa’s glowing happiness to Joey. She told Vanessa that as an adult she realized she couldn’t control some things.

Deanna then asked about Joey’s involvement in her real estate company. Vanessa said she just helped him find investment properties. She was shocked when Deanna told her that she was hoping to work in her mom’s office for the summer.
