Beyond the Gates Recap July 16

At Orphey Gene’s, Smitty saw an online article asking why Martin might have canceled his press conference, which triggered a memory of when he found out Martin was involved in a crime a few years back.
Andre interrupted his thoughts, and they talked for a few minutes. Smitty mused how he and Martin hit a rough patch last year but things were better now. Andre said he had to go meet Martin, but he didn’t know why he wanted to talk to him.
Once alone, Smitty talked to his editor about doing a story about Lia Whitmore and Lynette Wise’s embezzlement. He saw Hayley come in, and wanted to ask her some questions.
Naomi Shares Her BRCA Diagnosis

At the club, Naomi asked Kat, Chelsea, and Martin to meet with her. When she arrived, she told them matter-of-factly that she had the BRCA gene and why she hadn’t told anyone yet. Kat and Martin understood, but Chelsea couldn’t wrap her head around it.
Naomi told them she was considering a double mastectomy and possibly a hysterectomy down the road. Chelsea eventually said she’d chill out and just be there for her. Martin had to go to meet Andre, and after he left, Kat shared that she’d bought a condo and was going to have a part-time roommate.
Hayley Gets an Earful

None of them were too pleased to see Hayley enjoying a drink at the bar instead of tending to Bill. They were commenting on how doting Dani would have been when Hayley approached them.
Chelsea, Kat, and Naomi accused Hayley of not being doting enough to Bill. Hayley said she couldn’t stop Bill from working, but they laid into her even harder when they realized she had a spa appointment.
Martin and Andre Talk Campaigns and Marriage

Downstairs at the Atrium, Martin told Andre that he’d been reviewing the photos from the fundraiser and wanted Andre to be his official campaign photographer. Andre said his schedule was booked.
During their conversation, Andre brought up how Smitty told him that he and Martin hit a rough patch last year. Martin agreed and gave him unsolicited marriage advice.
Deanna Keeps Her Cool

At Uptown, Joey and Vanessa met Deanna for dinner. Things were stiff but okay until Joey brought up having seen the Tuscany magnet while moving Doug’s things and asked if she had bought it on their trip.
Deanna and Vanessa immediately got uncomfortable talking about her and Joey being away together, but Deanna didn’t react. After dinner, she smiled and remained pleasant as she said goodbye and said she would see Vanessa at home for a video chat with Donnell.
Joey agreed with Vanessa that the dinner seemed to go well, but he glanced at the door with distrust. Meanwhile, outside, Deanna talked to Doug’s photo on her phone, saying she did as he wanted, but then unleashed her rage on her bag of leftovers.
Pamela Comforts Dani

Pamela came to see Dani at home, and it didn’t take long before she could tell something was off. Dani told her about her and Bill in the elevator. She said her guilt was eating her alive, but Pam soothed her, telling her how understandable the situation was.
Pamela reminded Dani that she closed that chapter and not to reopen the book just because the cover was pretty. Dani told Pamela she was just the friend she needed that day.
“My darling friend, I’m just who you need every day,” Pamela laughed.
Bill Reassures Tomas

At the law office, Tomas made a quip about seeing Bill back and being grateful after his run-in with Naomi. Bill asked if he had a problem answering to his daughter. Tomas said he didn’t know why he had to, as he’d worked to rise up in the company.
Tomas told Bill he couldn’t fight nepotism and asked where he stood at the firm. He even considered postponing his trip as he wasn’t sure he’d have a job to return to.
Bill told Tomas to relax and that he was secure in his position. Tomas shared that he proposed to Kat, but she turned him down. He assured Bill that he loved Kat more than he had anyone, and the tornado made that clear to him. Before going, Tomas thanked Bill for his advice and said he’d always been a good mentor to him.
