Beyond the Gates Recap July 15

At the Dupree mansion, Tracy and Sharon came by to visit Anita and invite her to join them on tour. Vernon explained she wasn’t up to that, but Anita was ready to try singing with them again. They talked about taking Devon Hamilton up on his offer to do a recording with Barbara’s voice.

Anita was surprised to learn that Sharon had a new man in her life. They talked about Vernon and how she wouldn’t have gotten through chemo without him. Vernon found a date that would work for everyone, and Anita said when she was done with chemo and got in some vocal lessons to restore her voice, they would do Barbara right.

Naomi and Jacob Face Difficult Decisions

Jacob accompanied Naomi to her oncology appointment with Monica at the hospital. They went through all the info about the variant and the different options she had to reduce risk.

As Monica gave them a lot of information, Jacob tried to learn all he could. He was blown away at how many cancers she could be vulnerable to. When they talked about having her fallopian tubes removed, Jacob wanted them to slow down.

Naomi wondered if Jacob was secretly hoping she’d change her mind about having kids. Jacob said he just had questions, so they continued with more facts about the gene.

After the appointment, Naomi told Jacob that she thought the diagnosis would drive a wedge between them, but it made them stronger. Jacob smiled and agreed but didn’t look so sure as they hugged.

Hayley Wants Bill’s Decline to Speed Up

Elsewhere in the hospital, Bill decided to check himself out, despite Madison and his daughters’ disagreement with the idea. Chelsea called Hayley and asked her to take care of her dad.

Hayley went to Uptown and met with Randy, telling him that Bill’s end was likely near. She wanted to bump up the doses of poison. Randy cautioned that, as Bill was being monitored, not to cause a red flag in his levels.

Hayley went to the office to see Bill and asked why he had left the hospital against the doctor’s orders. He said that being in the hospital was making him sick, so he left for his own mental health. Hayley offered a compromise: to get on a health kick.

Deanna Makes a Peace Offering

Joey was helping Vanessa with moving Doug’s things when she got a call from Deanna, who was being very sweet and helpful at work. She invited her mom to join her at Orphey Gene’s, so Vanessa went to see her.

Once there, Deanna told her mom that she was ready to move on and, to prove it, wanted to have dinner with her and Joey. Vanessa was concerned about how Deanna would react if Joey said something she didn’t like, but Deanna insisted she was coming with an open mind.

Afterward, Deanna went to Uptown to book a table for 8 p.m. and reserve a bottle of 2019 wine. She told the bartender the evening had to be perfect as she had something special planned.

Deanna sat outside on the bench and met with Doug, who told her the dinner idea was smart. He warned her to be careful around Joey because he was hard to fool.

Joey Destroys Damning Evidence

Meanwhile, Joey came across a letter that Doug had written in a box. In it, he told of how he owed Joey money, and he offered a solution by money laundering through Vanessa’s company. The letter also said Joey seduced Doug’s wife and if anything happened to him, Joey was behind it.

Randy was summoned to see Joey, who asked him to look into a safe deposit box that Doug may have owned to see if he had any papers tucked away.

When Vanessa arrived, she told him about the dinner invitation. Joey wasn’t agreeable to it at first but said he’d go because it was important to Vanessa.

Later, Joey had a flashback to when Doug threatened to tell Jacob about the “goings on” with Joey. He took Doug’s letter and burnt it in the fireplace.
