Beyond the Gates Recap Jan 9: Test Results Devastate the Duprees

In the Beyond the Gates recap for Friday, January 9th, 2026, as Anita begins her chemotherapy, the genetic testing results are in.

Kat and Chelsea were about to be awkward, but they found out their ChelseaKat purse might be seen at the Golden Globes. Chelsea told Kat about the party, and Kat thanked her for her texts.

The conversation turned to the genetic testing, and Kat was surprised to find out the results were coming that day. Kat felt bad that her mom needed support, but probably thought she couldn’t handle it.

Kat called her mom, but Nicole told her that she’d come by later. Kat wished things could go back to the way they were. She explained she couldn’t handle it, and people who kept trying to tell her it would be okay were making it worse.

At Dani and Andre’s, Dani was trying to remain calm. She didn’t want to join Andre for a run but told him to go without her. She got a message about the test results, but Andre didn’t see it before he left for the gym.

Nicole came to the brownstone to wait for the results. Smitty said he had some recipes lined up for them to try to keep busy while waiting for the results.

Carleton called and checked in on Nicole. When she hung up, she told Smitty and Martin that they were dating. Martin was surprised and said he felt awkward.

Nicole explained that she and Carleton had known each other a long time, and so there was trust already. Smitty advised Martin that it was a time his grandfather would tell him to choose silence.

Martin lectured her that she was going to be busy with Anita, and dating someone was bad timing. He said other things, but Nicole got a text from the hospital with the results. 

Nicole logged in to the portal and got her results: she wasn’t a carrier. 

Anita told Vernon that she thought they should change plans: she would do chemo alone, and he could be there for Nicole and Dani, who were getting their test results. Vernon told her she was outvoted, and they had already discussed it. Anita and Vernon went to the hospital, and she began treatment. 

Jacob convinced Naomi to have breakfast with him at the country club. She was on edge and got more agitated when Jacob showed concern for her. He asked her to talk to him, but she said she already agreed to talk at counseling.

Andre got to the club and ran into Jacob, who said Naomi was headed over to see Dani. They were hopeful but worried about their wives and in-laws, and commiserated that the Dupree women didn’t ever take their help and comfort when they offered it.

Andre lamented that Bill had such an effect on everyone. Jacob told him that he always would but although Andre felt new and sometimes questioned his place, Bill would always make him look like the better husband. Andre was grateful for the talk and went for a workout.

Naomi got to Dani’s just in time for Nicole’s call to let her know that she was in the clear. Dani asked Naomi to check the portal for her. She could tell by the look on her face that she tested positive.

Nicole told Martin and Smitty and rushed off to see Dani. She asked them to call Vernon and give him the news. 

Naomi reminded Dani that it wasn’t a guarantee that she would get cancer, it was just information they could all use to protect themselves. Dani asked her to go tell Chelsea in person. Once alone, she tried calling Andre, but his phone was on the counter.

Naomi went to Chelsea and Kat’s and told them the news. They all went to Dani’s to be with her; she was grateful but went to lay down. When Nicole arrived, she went up and held her sister.

At the brownstone, Martin felt bad for his family, but Smitty told him there was no time for guilt. He pointed out that Chelsea would rely on him and Kat for support and he needed to be there, as did Vernon. He encouraged him to make the call. 

Martin called Vernon and told him the news while Anita was napping. When she woke up, she asked Vernon if the girls had gotten their results, but he told her he hadn’t heard anything.
