At the country club, Nicole was rude to Vanessa, who asked what was going on. Nicole broke down and told her about her stress over Anita’s cancer and having to be tested for the gene herself.

Vanessa got upset that they had to wait so long for the results, immediately empathizing for her friend, and devastated for Anita. Nicole worried for the people who didn’t have the same financial benefits that she and her family did.

Martin tried to meet with Vernon about his campaign, but Vernon quickly realized he was just trying to distract him. Vernon assured Martin that no mater where he was or what he was doing, Anita was always on his mind.

Vernon ran through some questions that the press would have, so Martin could practice his responses. Vernon told Martin how live used to be when he could make improvements in people’s lives and now he just had to wait and hope for others to do it for him.

Martin assured Vernon that he was a firm believer that Anita would get through her health crisis. He gave Vernon a supportive hug.

Tracy came to see Anita, and said she wanted to see her fierce friend. Anita wanted to avoid the topic but Tracy insisted on talking about her diagnosis.

While Anita tried to stay positive, Tracy wanted to discuss how Anita was dealing with her mortality. Anita snapped that Tracy was trying to kick her when she was down.

Anita said that one day, Tracy would come see her in a hospital and she would look weak. “But today is not that day,” Anita told her. She said staunchly that today, she was living for now.

Tracy still wanted to be sure that Anita was feeling the weight of what she was dealing with so she’d know how to fight it. Anita asked who Tracy was to determine what that looked like. She said that she would fight her cancer — but she’d do it her way.

Anita went off about what she wanted to still experience in life. Vernon walked in as she was yelling, and she threw her cup out of fear and anger.

Tracy told Anita that she was foolish to think that Anita did have it under control. Vernon added that it wasn’t just happening to Anita, it was happening to all of them and she didn’t need to shield them from it.

Tracy and Vernon told Anita how loved she was, that she had a team of support, and she never had to hold back on anything with them.

Joey called in Marcel and told him that he didn’t like what Elon said to the mayor about cleaning up the streets. He didn’t want their project in his neighborhood, so Marcel promised he’d intervene where he could.

Marcel brought up Vanessa and how she didn’t know that Joey made her a widow. Joey tried warning Marcel to stand down but he kept on. Marcel said that he didn’t want the video footage coming back to haunt him and ruin his retirement.

Joey assured Marcel that the video was erased. Vanessa called, upset, and said she needed to see Joey. When he hung up, he told Marcel to keep her safe.

At Orphey Gene’s, Izaiah told Eva he was really into her, and she told him she felt the same way. She said he was chipping away at her protective wall, but promised to trust him with her vulnerabilities.

Across the diner, Jessica and Tyrell took a table. Jessica couldn’t care less about the upcoming cotillion. She said that he wasn’t fed since birth about the elitist ritual, and it was exhausting. Tyrell noted that Samantha was really into it and even wanted to take some etiquette classes beforehand.

Tyrell said that Anita had started coaching Samantha, but now that she was sick, he didn’t know if there would be time for the classes. “At least that’s one benefit of your grandmother’s diagnosis,” Jessica shrugged. “Remember what I said about etiquette? Maybe you could use a class or two,” Tyrell told her.

Jessica apologized, but also continued on about how his family and the rest of the town only cared about rubbing elbows like they were in the Bridgerton era.

Tyrell introduced Jessica to Eva, who also didn’t know much about cotilions — something Jessica made note of appreciating. Jessica took a swipe at Tyrell for being a conformist to societal norms of Fairmont Crest, but he said he was his own man.

Nicole came home to find Laura and Mona, who brought her flowers and a gift card to have a private chef come cook for her. They said they knew she could have done all of that for herself, but they wanted to know they cared about her.

Vanessa came to see Joey at the casino, and he said she’d scared him when she called and sounded so upset. Vanessa apologized for worrying him and told him what was happening with Nicole and the Duprees.

Joey said he had a complicated relationship with the Duprees but wouldn’t wish cancer on his worst enemy. Vanessa told him he could help by investing in Leslie’s clinic. She thought they could save lives, and it would be a good karma balance.

Vanessa said that at one point, Doug wanted to be a physician for Doctors Across Borders, and the free clinic could honor him. Joey relented to have a meeting with Leslie about it.

When Tyrell got home, he told Martin that he felt wrong. He said he’d been spending all of his time trying to pick the best college, and then Anita got sick, and his perspective had changed on what was important. Martin told Tyrell that Anita wanted him to enjoy life.

Martin promised Anita would be getting the best care, and what he could do to help the situation was have full throttle happiness.
