Beyond the Gates Recap Jan 5: Dani and Nicole get tested, Marcel and Leslie hook up
In the Beyond the Gates recap for Monday, January 5, 2026, Niole and Dani get tested, Leslie and Marcel don’t hide their attraction before hooking up, Kat pushes everyone and everything away, and Ted bonds with Nicole and Shanice.
Beyond the Gates Recap
At the nurses’ station, Leslie wondered who put a smile on Shanice’s face. Before they argued, they talked about her caregiving of Peaches.
The conversation took a turn again, but Shanice held her own against Leslie when the subject of Ted came up. Shanice told Leslie that Ted came to see her and said he had a meeting outside the hospital.
Chelsea showed up at the hospital to see Madison and told her that she needed her input. She wanted her to doctor-splain the situation to her and tell it to her straight.
Madison explained the stats and risks to Chelsea. She said, though, that Chelsea might not test positive, even if her mom had the gene. Madison offered to go to a fellow oncologist for more information.
Madison told Chelsea that she lost her mom’s sister a few years prior to breast cancer. She admitted that the tension with her mom stemmed from that situation as her aunt followed her mom’s alternative medicine advice instead of Madison’s.
In Nicole’s office, Dani anxiously waited for their blood test. She and her sister both admitted how they’d gone to their exes for support when they heard the news about Anita’s cancer.
The sisters agreed that they went to them because of their kids, and neither wanted their ex back. Dani and Nicole discussed Kat and their own testing. Dani wasn’t sure what she’d do if she tested positive for the gene.
Shanice came in with the kit to do the blood test right there in Nicole’s office instead, so they didn’t need to go down to the lab and wait for their turn.
At Kat’s, Tomas brought her a green smoothie as a hangover helper. Tomas told Kat he found out about the genetic testing from Bill. Tomas told Kat that she should be able to lean on him, and he wanted her to.
Kat told Tomas that she didn’t keep him out of the loop because she didn’t trust him — it was just how she dealt with things. She said that until she could process her thoughts into words, she wanted to be alone.
Jacob and Naomi had dinner at Orphey Gene’s. They talked about Anita, and Naomi said how much she wanted to be there for her grandmother, so much so that she was even considering taking time off work to take care of her.
Before they could talk further, Naomi spotted Marcel and Leslie warmly greeting one another by the door. “Isn’t that your ex-partner?” she asked.
Marcel and Leslie purred and flirted at the counter until he asked if they should go somewhere more private. Marcel asked for the check as Leslie told him she’d be waiting at the Bowman.
Before Marcel could leave, Jacob said that Leslie had more drama than a reality TV housewife. Leslie came back in and told Jacob not to wait up, as they could be all night. Marcel winked at Jacob before leaving.
At the country club, Ted told Andre how Nicole turned to him during the familiy crisis, and Andre noted that Bill seemed to be one of Dani’s first thoughts as well.
Ted told Andre that he had a front-row seat to the toxic relationship that Dani had with Bill. He said that he and the family never thought she’d break free of it, but that she had now with Andre.
At the Bowman, Leslie and Marcel couldn’t take their hands off one another. In the afterglow, they lay in bed, talking about what a good time they’d just had before going for round two.
Jacob and Tomas ran into one another at the gym. They talked about the family crisis, and Tomas admitted that Kat was so stubborn and independent that he had trouble being her boyfriend.
Jacob said that all the Dupree women were like that. He admitted that Naomi had gone quiet, and usually when she did that, it meant she was about to do something he wasn’t going to like.
Chelsea asked Kat and Naomi to meet to talk at her and Kat’s place. Kat shared her distance with Tomas, and Naomi said she was dealing the same way with Jacob.
Kat didn’t want to talk about testing and cancer, but Chelsea was freaked out about Madison’s aunt. Chelsea got a text that Dani and Nicole both had their blood drawn.
Kat shut it out while Chelsea fretted about the results. She said that she was well-practiced in not thinking about things — to a fault. Chelsea thought she was being an adult by thinking about every detail.
Dani came home and showed Andre her pink bandage where she had her blood taken. He unwrapped it and then took her to bed to cuddle so she could have a nap.
When Ted came back to the hospital, he did a little shop talk with Shanice then she told him that Nicole could use his support. Before he left, he asked Shanice out for dinner.
Ted came in and made Nicole laugh right away. She invited Ted to sit with her and said that she was waiting for results. Ted shared that he didn’t tell Kat and Martin to get tested as it wasn’t his place, but did say he would be there for them.
Ted hoped this was the beginning of a friendship with Nicole. She heard his stomach rumble and handed him one of his favorite snacks that she had in her stash behind her desk, making him smile that she had it.
