Beyond the Gates Recap

Dani met Vernon at the country club, and they talked about her relationship with Nicole. Vernon told her not to underestimate herself, noting how proud she was of her business acumen.
Hayley came into the office as he was talking to Chelsea on the phone and heard him complimenting Dani’s beauty. Hayley was unusually okay with it at first, saying he was just giving his daughter a pep talk.
But a moment later, she grimly repeated how he’d called Dani the most beautiful supermodel on the planet.
Hayley told Bill he’d deprived her the night before and tried undressing him as she kissed him on the couch in his office. Bill said he needed a minute, and Hayley was frustrated at the rejection as Bill left the office.

While he was gone, she put some drops of poison in his tea and handed him the cup to drink when he returned.
Bill went to the club and ran into Vernon. He told him that he missed their times together, how they would play racquetball weekly, and how close they were. He told him that he was the dad he never had.
Vernon had no forgiveness for Bill hurting Dani. He said he wasn’t the son he never had; he was a liar. When Bill admitted he’d made a mistake letting Dani go, Vernon agreed and told him to live with it.
After Vernon left, Bill got a message from Madison, asking him, as her patient, to come by her office later. Chelsea arrived to meet her dad, and could tell he was upset.

Bill said he lost the father he never had. He confided that Vernon was just humoring all that time, just like all the Duprees. Chelsea reminded him that she was a Dupree, but he said only half.
Chelsea said, regardless of her halves, she was realizing how messy life could be. She noted that if you say or do something that hurts someone, no matter how they handled it, it was on you.
Leslie and Eva met at the diner, but Leslie was in a mood. Eva wondered what she had done wrong. Leslie recalled hiding her lingerie in Ted’s couch, but insisted she was just in a good mood.
Leslie hinted she was using Marcel to make Ted jealous. “You cannot be using Old Spice Hottie Shaft to make Dad jealous,” Eva sighed. She reminded Leslie that Ted and Shanice were together.
Leslie said Shanice was just an appy but she was the main course. Leslie was sure Shanice was just a placeholder and that Ted would be losing interest soon.

Eva realized Leslie had done something to Shanice.
At Uptown, Kat ranted to Chelsea about how her mom had two guys on the hook at the same time. “Gasp.” Chelsea laughed. Chelsea told her how she proposed to Madison in the least romantic way.
Kat was excited until she realized it had blown up Chelsea’s relationship. She was distracted when Dani came in with Izaiah and wanted to know what she was talking to him about.
Chelsea tried to tell her the story again about the proposal as Dani approached. She told her mom how it was an epic fail. Dani advised her to just tell Madison the truth and not to put a spin on it.
Kat was wanting to know what happened with Izaiah, so Dani said that she pitched modelling to him. Dani had to go talk to Pamela, and Chelsea had to leave as well.

Kat sat with Izaiah and tried to tell him how he’d have a bigger life as a model and told him about all the money he’d make. Eva came in and watched curiously as they talked.
At the gym cafe, Hayley ran into Lynette. Dani passed by but stopped to heckle Hayley. Despite being riddled with insults that she must be a bot to be called Hayley’s friends, Lynette fangirled when she recognized her favorite supermodel standing before her.
Dani accepted Lynette’s compliments but warned her to stay away from Hayley or she’d get burned by her.
Ashley and Grayson were flirting at the nurses’ station when Derek came in and told Grayson to leave. They almost got into a fight, but Derek backed down and apologized. He explainedthat Ashley was still his go-to when he was distressed.

Once alone, Derek told Ashley he’d had to review to see if he could return to work after the accident. Instead, he was told he could never be a fireman again.
Ashley sat down with Derek and listened. She told him that he was a good man, and so much more than his job. She advised him to think of all the reasons he loved being a fireman and find another one that had those perks.
Ashley said he was brave, enjoyed being part of a team, and he liked saving people. She gave him a hug as Grayson returned and saw.
