Beyond the Gates Recap Jan 16: Chelsea and Naomi test results are in

In the Beyond the Gates recap for Friday, January 16, 2026, Ashley was confused by Jan’s questions, Shanice was on an emotional ride with Ted, Eva vented to Izaiah, and Naomi wanted to celebrate her avoidance.

Beyond the Gates Recap

Eva went to Uptown and met Izaiah, and told him how furious about the way Kat treated her. After she calmed down, she apologized for her outburst.

Izaiah assured Eva that she never had to shut down her feelings with him. She shared that she was mad at herself for putting herself out there but Izaiah cheered her up.

Kat came home, and Chelsea told her that she didn’t have the variant but didn’t know yet about Naomi. Chelsea called Naomi and told her as well.

When Chelsea asked about Naomi’s results, she told her, “Nothing to worry about.” Naomi asked her to join her and Jacob at the club to celebrate, but warned that Bill and Hayley were there.

Jacob was excited and told Naomi her results must be in as well. He opened the patient portal on his phone and asked for Naomi’s password.

Naomi said it could wait, and she went to tell Chelsea’s good news to Bill and suggested they celebrate as a family. She wanted to order champagne and have a party. 

Bill thought she should wait until they had two reasons to celebrate, but Naomi didn’t see the point of waiting. He asked if Dani knew, but Naomi said not yet.

When Naomi went back to her table, Bill wanted to call Dani, but Hayley told her not to and to let Chelsea tell her mom herself.

Meanwhile, Dani rushed into Chelsea and Kat’s to congratulate her on the good news. Chelsea said she realized that every choice she ever made had gone through her head. She had a new perspective, she told Dani and Kat.

Chelsea told Dani about her conversation with Naomi, that she was also in the club and wanted to celebrate. Kat lamented to Dani that she wished they could celebrate for her as well but instead she had to walk around knowing that one day she could be fighting cancer like Anita.

Dani gave her a pep talk, and then Kat told them she couldn’t go celebrate with them as she had work to do. Chelsea suggested that Andre shouldn’t come because Bill would be there, but Dani was fine with it. As they left, Kat mouthed “thank you” to Chelsea.

At the nurse’s station, Grayson and Ashley continued to flirt, and he nibbled a little on her ear. Behind them, Derek was jaw-dropped.

Derek listened as Grayson noted that they’d spent the morning together before work. When Ashley walked away, Grayson headed for the elevator.

Derek went into the elevator and asked Grayson which floor he was going to. When he pressed the button for floor 2, Derek said it was the same as his.

Grayson’s radar went off when Derek questioned how he knew Ashley, and claimed they had been friends for years. When the doors opened, Grayson walked off, but Derek pretended he’d forgotten his parking ticket and had to go back. 

In Ted’s office, he and Shanice began ripping each other’s clothes off on the sofa, but Ted’s phone kept buzzing. “We can’t do this,” he said. Shanice agreed and started to get dressed. She said it was completely unprofessional and needed to get back to work.

Ted stopped her to explain that she was more than a quickie on the couch. He said he wanted her, but wanted to take her on a dinner date and do things right. Shanice said she’d check her schedule. “I’m available,” she said immediately.

Shanice returned to the nurses’ station and tried to act staunch and professional with Ashley, who noted Shanice’s shirt was inside out.

Before leaving the hospital, Ted pulled Shanice aside and said that she deserved better than a hurried invitation by a half-dressed man and formally asked her out to dinner.

Derek called Jan to meet for coffee. She made it clear she couldn’t convince Ashley to go back to him, but he swore that wasn’t why he wanted to see her. 

Derek said that she was like family and wanted to hear about her cruise. Jan said she met a man, and Derek noted that she and Ashley had that in common.

Jan was surprised to hear that Ashley was dating someone and said he didn’t know. Derek 

Jacob found Naomi in the club’s hallway and asked if she’d checked her results yet. She told him that she needed to be the one to see what was in the portal.

Naomi said that she didn’t want to get life-changing news in the middle of the club. She asked for more time, and told Jacob how much she loved him.

Dani and Chelsea arrived, and they quickly realized that Naomi didn’t actually have her results. She said she’d look in her own time, and wanted them all to focus on Chelsea.

Eventually, Naomi gave in and took Jacob’s phone to look at the portal. With her back to her mom and husband, she read what it said and her face fell. She put on a big smile and turned around, claiming that all was well. 

Dani excitedly texted Andre and told him that she had great news: Both Chelsea and Naomi tested negative and to join them for a celebration at the club. She and Jacob hugged Naomi and told her how relieved they were.

Jan rushed Ashley at the hospital, wanting to know what was going on with her and a new man. She said she’d heard she was kissing him at the nurses’ station and making a scene. Ashley was embarrassed and downplayed what she was saying, but it burst her bubble.

Meanwhile, Ted and Andre met at Orphey Genes, and he told him about his relationship with Shanice. Andre was supportive and encouraging.
