Beyond the Gates Recap February 20: Bill Interferes with Chelsea’s Engagement and Randy is Mistaken for Sammy

TL;DR: In today’s Beyond the Gates recap, Bill’s huge donation to Madison’s fellowship sets her up in D.C. rather than Copenhagen. Anastasia’s lies force Anita to go public with her story, and Bill mistakes Randy for “Sammy,” complicating Joey’s life. Vanessa secures her son, Donnell, as an escort for Samantha’s cotillion. Mona wants to help Randy get a spiritual renewal.

Beyond the Gates Recap

At Orphey Gene’s, Mona stopped by Chelsea and Madison’s table to thank them for saving a friend of hers. Chelsea was moved to tears about her fiancé.

Once alone, Chelsea asked again if Madison wanted to attend the fellowship in Copenhagen, but she insisted she was happier with Chelsea.

At the counter, Randy came in and saw Mona. She asked him to stay and dine with her, but he said no. He said he didn’t want her churchgoing friends to see her with a guy like him.

While chatting, Mona asked Randy if he’d like to come to church with her for a spiritual renewal. Randy said he’d consider it.

Anastasia Strikes Again

At the country club, Samantha was overloaded with cotillion talk from Nicole. Anastasia came by the table to talk about Samantha’s prep and imminent failure. Nicole told her that in her line of work, she’d noticed an uptick in people who lived vicariously through others.

Nicole offered Anastasia her tiara so she could feel like a winner temporarily and lay off. Anastasia said she was just as rude as her mother, who made a fool of herself at the club the day before.

Anastasia told her version of Anita’s incident, claiming she was getting drunk with Leslie and was messy. After Nicole sent her away, she called Vernon and got the truth.

Anita got a call from Jacinda, who had heard the same. Vernon told Anita what Anastasia was saying.

Anita decided she needed to control her own narrative and went public. She thought that it would also help other women to hear her story. 

Anita wanted to call her publicist, Ned; Vernon wanted to tell her how proud he was of her bravery first.

Vanessa Gets An Escort For Samantha

At Joey’s, Vanessa was supposed to go to the club to help Nicole train Samantha for cotillion, but Joey had other plans with the blindfold from Valentine’s Day.

When Vanessa got to the club, Nicole told her that they’d shelved cotillion talk, but Samantha said there was one thing unresolved: she still didn’t have an escort. 

“I can help with that!” Vanessa said as she grabbed her phone. Samantha was thrilled, but Nicole was horrified. 

Vanessa clarified that Donnell had been an escort three times, knew cotillion rules, and how to dance. Samantha was super excited at the thought, Nicole approved, and Vanessa was hopeful to see her son soon.

Bill Interferes In Chelsea’s Engagement

At the hospital, Bill brought Hayley to have her headache checked. While waiting, he told her that he asked Joey to find the mugger and deal with him.

Chelsea came in to drop something off that Madison forgot at the diner. Hayley noticed Chelsea’s engagement ring and wished her nothing but happiness.

As Chelsea started to say she wished her dad felt the same, he interrupted to tell Hayley the nurse was calling her in. Once alone, Chelsea wanted to know why Bill told Dani about her engagement before she could.

Bill told Chelsea that he felt she made rash decisions, but she told him she was repeatedly asking Madison if she wanted to go to Copenhagen. Bill advised his daughter to stop, but she wanted to ask her again.

When Hayley returned, she heard Bill on the phone with Caroline. He told her to make the donation as big as it needed to be.

Meanwhile, Chelsea saw Madison and was asking her again about the fellowship when she got a call from the people in Copenhagen. They said they had been given a huge donation — on the condition that they set her up in DC to do her work.

Madison was blown away but Chelsea had an idea how it might have happened.

Bill Sees Sammy With Joey

Later, Joey met with Randy at Uptown and asked for an update on the mugger. Randy tried to steer Joey toward letting it go, but he made it clear what his marching orders were: fulfill them, or he’d get his answers another way.

Bill and Hayley came in, but she spotted Randy and Joey and tried saying she wasn’t feeling well and wanted to go. Bill saw them as well and decided to ask for an update first.

However, Bill thought that Randy was Sammy, who’d helped Hayley during her miscarriage. Hayley said she’d wait at the bar while they talked.

Bill showed up at Joey’s table and surprised him by calling Randy “Sammy.” He pointed out Hayley and suggested he go talk to her, so Randy did. Once alone, Bill asked Joey how he knew Sammy.

Joey said he just knew him through the casino, and assured Bill he had his best man on the mugging case. Bill returned to the bar and thanked Sammy for helping Hayley.

Bill commented that he thought it was ironic that Joey knew Sammy, but Hayley had a meltdown about the mugging to distract him.

At Joey’s table, he told Randy that if he brought his drama to his door, he was no longer an asset. Randy thanked him for covering with Bill.
