Beyond the Gates Recap February 13: Dani’s Presser Triumph and Randy Shuts Down Lynette

TL;DR: In today’s Beyond the Gates recap, Dani delivers an epic takedown of a sexist reporter at her press conference, while Randy puts a quick end to Lynette’s attempts to manipulate him. Meanwhile, Nicole grapples with her complicated love life between Carlton and Kial.

Beyond the Gates Recap

Carlton came to see Nicole and asked her to speak to his patient. She was glad he was better after their confrontation but he calmly and pleasantly told her that he wasn’t afraid of a little competition.

Just then, the hospital chief of staff, Dr. Lia Whitmore, walked in and asked Nicole a question, coordinating a meeting. Carlton immediately snapped that she was willing to accommodate Nicole’s schedule but not his.

Lia explained he was bumped for another surgery and wasn’t having his ranting. Nicole didn’t like it that Lia asked her to talk him down, implying she knew of their personal relationship.

Carlton told Nicole to enjoy Valentine’s Day, if she had plans. She said she was keeping her options open, and he agreed it was a good idea, as he was as well. “Happy Valentine’s Day,” he said cheerfully as he walked out.

Ted Chooses His Valentine

At the club cafe, Ted told Andre that the new and improved Nicole was dating both Carlton and Kial. Andre wondered why he cared what his ex was doing.

Ted went to work and gave Shanice a dress to wear to dinner at a Michelin star restaurant. Nicole walked by and told them she’ll look great in it and to enjoy their dinner. Behind them, Lia observed their dynamics.

When Carlton walked by, Lia warned him that she didn’t butt in with personal relationships unless they affected patient care. Carlton wasn’t pleased when she walked away.

Hayley Doubles Down

In the hotel room, Hayley explained that Lynette came by to check in on Hayley, and she was shook up from the mugging. Bill didn’t understand why Lynette would be upset since Hayley was the victim.

Hayley said that Lynette was worried, and the mugger saw her, too and knows she can identify him. Hayley asked Bill to get Lynette a room so she could feel safe and get a good night’s sleep.

Bill grumbled about it but got Lynette the room. Once alone, Bill warned Hayley that people like Lynette would milk her guilt and kindness for all it was worth.

Hayley was enjoying Bill’s focused attention on her but he got an alert that Dani was tagged in a livestream. He wanted to watch it in case it affected Chelsea and Naomi, he said.

Hayley muttered to herself that she didn’t know he had an alert set up about Dani. She sat with her arms folded as Bill watched the livestream. Afterwards, Hayley got the attention again by acting like she was in pain.

Dani’s Livestream

Dani had a presser but bolted out, angering Tatum, who thought she was unreliable like her reputation. Dani went to the Dupree mansion and told them her plan to model for Tatum.

Dani was worried that her schedule would mean she wouldn’t be there for her parents but they insisted that she take the opportunity and make up for the time she lost giving up her career for Bill.

Dani returned home to find her living room full of reporters. She cheerfully greeted them all and got the livestream started to announce her new venture with Tatum, and began answering their questions.

One reporter asked Dani if she was nervous competing with women half her age. “Will America find a woman with stretch marks and crow’s feet aspirational?” he asked.

Dani told the reporter that he had some audacity to come into her home, drink her champagne, and then tell her she was washed up. She defended herself and said she was a mature woman, like Tatum’s customers, and women would welcome seeing a someone their age modeling clothes they’d like to wear.

Dani added that because of the life she lived she had never felt more beautiful than she did that day. Anita, Nicole, Vernon, Kat, and Bill all cheered her on while watching.

After the reporters left, Tatum was thrilled with how the presser went. Andre and Pam were impressed as well. 

Randy’s Past With Lynette

Lynette went to the cafe and ran into Hayley. He told her he knew about her scam with Hayley, and asked how he learned to throw a punch.

When Lynette said her ex owned a boxing gym, he accused her of burning it down for the insurance money. Lynette wished Randy didn’t think the worst of her and tried to be charming.

Lynette insisted she was changing her life and reconnecting with Hayley was a bonus. “Don’t try to play a player,” Randy warned. Lynette told him she could see through what he was doing — trying to resist the past so he didn’t wind up in her luxurious hotel room bed. Lynette tried walking down memory lane, reminding Randy how he couldn’t get enough of her in the past. Randy agreed he remembered as well. “But now, I’m immune to you,” he said before leaving.
