Beyond the Gates Recap April 24: Kial Returns, Grayson Ghosts Jacob, Hayley Overhears Bill

TL;DR: In today’s Beyond the Gates recap, Kial returns from his trip early, surprising Nicole and interrupting her talk with Carlton. Later, Kial and Carlton bond over being  Nicole’s…caregivers. Meanwhile, Ashley hides an injured Grayson from her mother, Jan, as Jacob and Smitty worry about Grayson’s risk to them all. Hayley smirks when she overhears Bill defending her to Chelsea, and Joey and Vanessa solidify their relationship with a meaningful photo.

Beyond the Gates Recap April 24

Carlton came to see Nicole, as they hadn’t talked since the double date with Joey and Vanessa. He wanted to apologize for the way they left things and was hoping for forgiveness.

Nicole and Carlton sat down, and she told him that what he said about her felt judgmental. Carlton rephrased to say that the person he already knew was special. 

Nicole relaxed and admitted she’d projected her feelings about Joey and Vanessa onto him. Carlton asked if she wanted to go for dinner in the next few days. She guessed he was trying to distract that it was her from her wedding anniversary.

Kial interrupted, and Nicole was surprised that he was back a week early. Carlton offered him his seat and said he had to go anyway.

Once alone, Nicole told Kial that she would’ve been waiting in his bed if she’d known he was coming back early. They got caught up, and reiterated how refreshing it was that they were so open with their relationship. Kial noted that he had no interest in anyone else, but understood that Nicole wasn’t there yet.

Kial and Carlton Bond, Kind Of

At the nurses’ station, Kial and Carlton had a chat about the two of them both dating Nicole, working at the hospital, and how they were bound to cross paths. They knew where Nicole was emotionally, and agreed it was their duty to take care of her.

“It is just the two of us?” Kial confirmed. “I hope so,” Carlton said. “I mean, it could be a whole squad. Not that I’m worried — I’ve enjoyed the ride,” Kial told him. 

Carlton noted that Kial was around for two minutes, whereas he’d been chasing after Nicole for decades. After some banter, Kial suggested they take their competition back to the basketball court and to bring cash this time. “I don’t need to do that because the best man is going to win,” Carlton quipped light-heartedly.

Nicole came around the corner as they were both laughing and teasing about winning. She didn’t look like she found it humorous at all.

Ashley Hides Grayson From Jan

Ashley managed to distract her mom with the sauce as Grayson writhed in pain, hidden in the bathroom. Jacob and Smitty kept calling him, but he didn’t answer.

In the kitchen, Jan wouldn’t take the hint to leave, so Ashley snapped at her to get out. After an apology and a shower, Ashley finally got Jan to go and rushed to Grayson.

Ashley was sure he was going into shock and worried about an infection. She wanted to take him to a doctor, but he insisted he couldn’t see anyone other than her. Ashley got Grayson on the bed so she could care for him, and wondered what he’d gotten himself into.

Smitty and Jacob Worry

Smitty met Jacob at his place, and they compared notes. Smitty couldn’t find his car and he wasn’t at home, and he wasn’t taking Jacob’s calls, which meant that he must be at Ashley’s.

Jacob was furious that he’d ordered Grayson to break up with her and he didn’t. “He thinks he’s in control,” Jacob lamented. He said he’d kept Naomi safe so far, and Grayson was risking them all by continuing to see Ashley, as he might tell her what’s going on.

Mom & Daughter Time

Naomi brought snacks to Dani’s so they could hang out and watch a movie. Naomi shared how lonely she was at home without Jacob.

Dani told Naomi that she’d hoped to work with Chelsea but it didn’t work out. She said she was just missing the days when they couldn’t do anything without her, and it was a little lonely now that her daughters were adults.

Hayley Talks to Bill About Hayley

At Uptown, Hayley admired the new ring that Bill bought her to replace the one that had been stolen. They bumped into Chelsea at the bar and invited her to join them for dinner.

Bill brought up Madison’s lawsuit, but Chelsea didn’t really want to talk about it in front of Hayley. Picking up on it, Hayley offered to give them some private time and said she’d wait at the bar.

Bill thought Hayley was being nice, but she breathed a sigh of relief as she got away from them. Hayley went to the bar and flirted with the bartender instead.

Back in the booth, Chelsea told Bill that she was concerned about Hayley and her petty games with Tomas. Bill explained that Lynette scammed Hayley, but Chelsea questioned her loyalty. 

Chelsea pointed out that their family was closer than they had been in a while. She said that Hayley was at risk of feeling pushed out even further.

Chelsea suggested that Hayley was stirring up conflict because she was feeling insecure. Hayley saw them talking and moved to the booth behind them to listen in. 

Bill told Chelsea that he missed having good relationships with the Duprees and Anita’s cancer put things in perspective for him. He said it was on him to make Hayley feel more secure.

Hayley was very pleased to hear Bill defend her and say how happy he was at home, not interested in Dani, and that Chelsea had no reason for concern.

Joey and Vanessa Make a Home

Joey came home to candlelights and Vanessa. She showed him the items she brought over, and he noticed that the people in the frame were strangers. Vanessa said she was hoping to replace it with them and got him to pose for selfies.

Vanessa showed him the results and printed off a photo of them to put in the frame, and Joey thought it was a great idea. She said it might seem like an insignificant photo to him, but Joey disagreed.

Joey told her that he got it — the photo of the two of them was a statement that they were together, she belonged, and she was there to stay.
