Beyond the Gates Recap April 22

At Uptown, Martin saw Tomas, who was preparing to have a birthday lunch with Kat, just the two of them this time. Martin thanked him for setting up the party on her actual birthday.

Tomas let Martin know he knew how to treat Kat and had no problem with the extras he needed to do to keep her pleased. Martin told him he was the only one to make it this far with his sister.

Ashley Makes a Date

Ashley invited Grayson to come to her place for a home-cooked meal. He agreed but said he was on call with the concierge service, so it would have to be later. He offered to pick up wine for them.

Ashley teased Shanice when she stepped off the elevator for not being able to stay away. Shanice said she was there to surprise Ted, but she was the one surprised when Ashley said that Ted wasn’t there.

After finding out Ted was on a coffee run, Shanice waited and listened to the gossip Ashley had about Madison’s lawsuit and how something serious had happened in Nicole’s office, but she didn’t know what.

Shanice said she’d try to find out, but Ashley asked her to leave her name out of it as Lia had been making weird comments to her since she found out Ashley and Grayson were seeing one another.

Shanice scoffed that Lia wasn’t the chief of her bedroom. Ashley wondered if Derek had said something to Lia and told her how he had rejected Grayson’s offer to volunteer at the clinic.

Nicole Squashes Martin’s Dreams

Nicole came to see Martin, and he took her aback when he suggested that after his congressional campaign, he should get ready for a 2028 Senate run.

Nicole couldn’t believe that Vernon, of all people, encouraged Martin to make that decision. She reminded him about his secret and said he couldn’t run for Senate because of it.

“That night? On the side of the road?” Nicole reminded. Martin told her it stopped being an issue the day that the only person who threatened to make it one ceased to exist.

Nicole listed off the people who knew about it and how any of them could slip up. She couldn’t believe it when she realized Martin talked to Bill about it.

Martin was sure that no one from the family would let out the secret, and thought the only other one was Joey. He shared that Vernon didn’t think that Joey would reveal anything.

Nicole saw him differently and shared how Joey brought it up in public when she challenged him. She admitted he apologized later, but said it proved that he was lethal.

Nicole told Martin it was his decision, but she had to be the one to shoot down his dreams. She told him that there were other ways to serve without having to look over his shoulder.

Martin said as long as Joey was alive, he would have to worry, but he may as well do some good while he was waiting. Nicole balked when Martin told her that Joey didn’t know anything about his considering running for Senate.

Bill’s Money Is Missing

Bill came home with flowers and ways to butter up Hayley after their fight. She was happily moving money into her personal account, but hid it when he came in and acted upset.

Bill buttered her up, but while she was out of the room, Natalie called and told him that his savings account was missing. Bill asked Hayley about it, and she said she closed it to help him.

Hayley said since they weren’t saving for a baby anymore, she wanted to put the money back into the main account. Bill questioned why she got a check issued instead of just transferring it but Hayley claimed not to know how. Bill bought her story.

Kat’s Other Birthday Celebration

Kat met Tomas at Uptown, who’d brought in a DJ and cleared some space for a dance floor so they could salsa. After, he gave her an ornament that was as close to a replica of his front door in Puerto Rico that he could find.

Tomas said he wanted to show Kat the real thing and didn’t want to wait until their planned trip at Christmas. He wanted to take her home as a birthday present.

Kat wanted to go but was a little apprehensive as she’d never ‘met the parents’ before.

Ted and Shanice Reconnect

At the Atrium, Kat saw Ted and had a coffee. They talked about ChelseaKat and Anita, and Ted asked when she was moving. Kat assured him that she and Tomas were not ready for that. When Kat asked about Shanice, Ted said that the next time he committed would be the last.

When Ted returned to the hospital, he was happily surprised to see Shanice was back early from her trip. They went to her office and were cuddling and talking on his sofa when Nicole rushed in to talk to him about Martin. She stopped when she saw Shanice and apologized for interrupting. After she left, Shanice told Ted it was fine and that she had a lot of time to think on her trip.

Shanice suggested they go somewhere they could be inappropriate, and he agreed with a smile. As Ted and Shanice got on the elevator, they spoke to one another as professionals, but as the doors closed, they held hands.

Grayson is Stabbed

In the hospital stairwell, Grayson called his mom and told her about having dinner with Ashley later. When he hung up, Ren appeared and stabbed him in the abdomen.

As Grayson slunk to the ground, bleeding heavily, Ren said that it was always better when they fight and left him to die.
