Beyond the Gates: NEW! Season 2 Cast Photo — Who’s Missing and What it Means
CBS released a new, second-season Beyond the Gates cast photo today, but there are some familiar faces missing.

In the new cast photo released today for Beyond the Gates, fans won’t be surprised to see the faces they’ve grown to know over the past year.
The second season of Beyond the Gates officially kicked off at the start of the year, and, with the anniversary of the first episode next month, viewers have gotten to know the cast in detail.
However, some of the faces they would expect to see aren’t in the photo.
Who’s In the Cast Photo
The Richardson family, with dads Smitty (Mike Manning) and Martin (Brandon Claybon) and their two teens, twins Tyrell (Jaden Lucas Miller) and Samantha (Najah Jackson), is featured on the left side of the photo.
Next to them, Martin’s father, Ted Richardson, played by the uber-talented Keith D. Robinson, sits between his daughter Kat (Colby Natasha Nixon) and her boyfriend, Tomas Navarro (Alex Alegria). Tomas might be the only one willing to stand next to his boss, Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett), and his wife, Hayley Lawson (Marquita Goings).
The Duprees, of course, are front and center, with the heads of the family, Anita (Tamara Tunie) and Vernon (Clifton Davis), and their daughters, Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) and Dani (Karla Mosley), and granddaughters Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) and Chelsea (RhonniRose).
Behind the Duprees, as they are often over their shoulder, sits Leslie Thomas (Trisha Mann-Grant) and her and Ted’s daughter, Eva (Ambyr Michelle).
The photo is rounded out by Andre Richardson (Sean Freeman), Ashley Morgan (Jen Jacob), her ex Derek (Ben Gavin), and brothers Jacob (Jibre Hordges) and Izaiah Hawthorne (David Lami Friebe).
Of course, Fairmont Crest wouldn’t be the same without its resident mob boss, Joey Armstrong (Jon Lindstrom) and his lady boss, Vanessa McBride (Lauren Buglioli).
Interestingly, next to them is Dr. Madison Montgomery (Kenjah McNeil) — Chelsea’s girlfriend, who we thought broke up with her today. If the photo is of any indication, the pair might work their way through thei issues, although Madison is also Bill Hamilton’s physician.
Who’s Missing
Speaking of physicians, it’s of interesting note that some prominent doctors at Garland Memorial Hospital are missing from the photo.
Dr. Carlton Fitzgerald (Rober Christopher Riley) has been dating Nicole, as has newcomer Dr. Kial Rollins (Greg Vaughan), but neither are pictured. Another newcomer is hospital lab technician Grayson Perez (Jordi Vilasuso) isn’t part of the group photo.
But that doesn’t mean something’s up with their casting. Also not present is Jacob and Izaiah’s dad, police chief Elon Hawthorne (Malachi Malik), and the soon-to-be-retiring detective Marcel Malone (Darryl W. Handy), who’s in a relationship with Leslie, and Maurice P. Kerry, Joey’s main henchman and Hayley’s cousin.
Another regular not pictured is Samantha and Tyrell’s mother, June (Jasmine Burke), who also works at Orphey Gene’s Soul Kitchen.
Perhaps most noticeably absent is nurse Shanice Johnson (Ernestine Johnson), whose line delivery against her foes, and her relationship with Ted, have become watercooler talk throughout soapdom.
What It Means
So, is there a hidden meaning in the attendance list for the photo shoot? Not really. The photo was taken the same day as the filming for last Monday’s special episode “Beyond the Gates: Inside Fairmont Crest.” During the episode, the cast reflected on last season’s episodes and on the characters’ relationships as they have developed over the past year.
