Beyond the Gates Scenes of the Week: The Highlight Reel Jan 19-23
In all honesty, this feature was supposed to be an article about one standout moment during the week of January 19th to 23rd on Beyond the Gates. But since this show insists on bringing its A-game every dang day, we’re expanding it to include several highlights (even then, it was hard to narrow it down — and it was a short week!).
On that note, and in no particular order, here are the Beyond the Gates’ Scenes of the Week.
Beyond the Gates Scenes of the Week

The End of the Apology Tour
This was the conversation that had everyone talking — and dividing. Some fans thought it was long overdue that Ted (Keith D. Robinson) put his daughter in her place, while others staunchly defended Kat (Colby Natasha Nixon) and wished she’d disown her dad for his ignorance of her feelings.
But all could agree that Robinson and Nixon had everyone transfixed, hanging on their every word, while Ted drew the line about Kat’s resentment about his affair that happened decades ago, resulting in a sister that Kat never wanted.
“Well, baby girl, that makes two of us,” Ted said when Kat said she couldn’t look at him anymore. You could hear a pin drop from the diner to every living room as she walked out.
Just Desserts

Nicole (Daphnée Duplaix) and Carlton (Robert Christopher Riley), as well as Shanice (Ernestine Johnson) and Ted getting intimate for the first time, had viewers talking for hours. Nicole fans were screaming “Finally!” while Shed fans couldn’t have been happier all week with the build-up to the…um…well, you know, that peak moment — which, apparently, there were several of, according to Shanice the next day at the nurses’ station. Two very different couples; both sizzled on the screen.
Keep My Wife’s Name Out of Your Rolodex

Vanessa (Lauren Buglioli) can handle herself just fine — on the phone. But when there’s a very angry man getting physical and making threats, there is nothing wrong with having a henchman within reach. After all, that’s what Joey (Jon Lindstrom) does, and he can make grown men tremble (or disappear) with just a look.
That said, this entire scene took a turn when Randy (Maurice P. Kerry) glared at Lance (Kovar McClure). Even the word “glared” isn’t strong enough for the piercing look that said, “Look at me wrong so I can bust you up.” And not to promote violence, but boy, do we wish he had.
Randy’s a henchman, but he’s either getting scoldings from Joey or Hayley (Marquita Goings) these days. Let the guy hench already, especially to someone who deserves it…like Lance. There was a lot going on at Orphey Gene’s at that moment, but Randy’s look-that-could-kill stole the scene.
Déjà vu

Dani (Karla Mosley) and Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) locked lips twice this week, but that second time was fire! Unfortunately, it was just a fantasy in Bill’s head, but at least Tomas wasn’t witnessing it. However, viewers got a very good look at what the two of them would be like in real time.
When Dani was on Bill’s desk and challenged him to kick her out if she wasn’t welcome, that look, the tone, and his reaction were Dani & Bill’s hottest moments — together or apart. While we’ve been told they’re a bad idea, what we saw had us cheering them on, even if it was wrong.
Anita and Sharon Got Real

Sharon (Bonita Brisker) went with Anita (Tamara Tunie) for her round of chemo, and Anita used the opportunity to talk about worst-case scenarios — something she couldn’t do with her family. It was a necessary conversation, done in a morbid but smiling way that informed viewers, reminded us of the real issue, yet still entertained — not easy to do when it comes to the Big C, but these scriptwriters know what they’re doing.
Shanice and…Everyone

“Shanice can handle herself in any room,” Ted said to his date. Truer words might never have been spoken. We saw so many sides to Shanice this week, we lost count.
Shanice was a professional at work (mostly), but when her crush made dinner plans, all things changed. She may have said she felt like a princess about going on a date at the country club, but what she gave us was a queen.
Making Fairmont Crest social status history, Shanice ripped Anastasia (Timeca M. Seretti) a new one without blinking, was humble and charming with Ted, stood tall to be honest with Nicole, then purred into a sex kitten back home. At work the next morning, her giddiness with Ashley (Jen Jacob) and texts with Ted were beyond cute.
And when Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) strutted up to her desk to not only tell her off but physically threaten to surprise-attack her at a later date, Shanice not only didn’t bat an eye, but she leaned in.
Needless to say, there was incessant chatter and video clips posted constantly all week, mostly starring Shanice.
