The Young and the Restless: Will Billy’s Deal With Cane Ruin His Relationship with Sally — or is she leaving him anyway?

On The Young and the Restless, Billy Abbott may be his own worst enemy most of the time, but if he accepts Cane’s ambitious offer, would he be losing Sally — or gaining himself?

Sometimes on The Young and the Restless, it feels like if Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) didn’t have bad luck, he wouldn’t have any luck at all. But this week, as luck would have it, the very thing (if not the only thing) he’s wanted was offered on a silver platter.

Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) has dangled the keys to the Chancellor kingdom in front of Billy, and while it may be on the inside, we all know Billy is drooling. He has been chasing the ghost of respect for decades, desperate to prove he isn’t just the family disappointment.

Taking over Chancellor Industries (or whatever slice Cane is offering) is the ultimate ego stroke. It’s a chance to stick it to Jill, shove it in Victor’s face, and finally be the CEO again.

The pros? Sure, there are a few. Billy gets his power back. He gets to walk into the GCAC with his chest puffed out. He can hold his head high in the mirror.

For the viewers, watching Billy team up with Cane — the only guy in Genoa City disliked more than him right now — would be pure, chaotic entertainment.

But here is the cost: Sally Spectra.

Could Sally and Billy Survive?

Sally (Courtney Hope) has already sacrificed her own career momentum twice to Billy’s needs. She hitched her wagon to his Abbott Communications pipe dream, and now that it’s launched, he wants to jump ship to Chancellor.

In his defense, Billy hasn’t said that, but she knows as well as we do that it’s likely. Just him considering seems to be enough to rattle Sally. She wants a partner, not a project. She wants to build an empire, not be collateral damage of Billy’s decisions.

The Verdict

Billy and Sally on The Young and the Restless recap

Billy is addicted to the idea of himself as a titan of industry, to put himself on par with those whose respect he wants to have. If it’s a real, bona fide opportunity, we predict Billy will take Cane’s offer. He won’t be able to help himself. And when he turns around to celebrate, he shouldn’t be surprised if Sally is already packing her bags.

However…Sally is forgetting that Billy gave her a signed contract. He has told her since discussing it in Nice, France, last summer that Cane wanted to get Chancellor back and give it to Billy.

It’s not new. It’s not a surprise. The fact that it could still happen (and the way it’s happening) could be a bit of a shock, but Billy told/warned her last year, and gave her a safeguard. Billy put it in writing that she would still be in charge of Abbott Comm if he left for Chancellor.

So, really, is Billy breaking the deal? Sally’s acting like it, but in reality, maybe she’s just looking for an out.
