Beyond the Gates Recap

Pamela met Dani at the club and gave her a card to give to Anita. Dani told her that she tested positive for carrying the BRCA gene. She needed a reality check from someone who knew her.
Dani asked Pamela if it was a wake-up call for her to take a look at her life choices. Pamela was the BFF Dani needed. She brought wit and compassion to the conversation, held her hand, and said she was there for whatever came next.
Dani was rolling with laughter at Pam’s description of how she would be there for her. Pam told her that someone needed to write a condolence card to cancer, because it came calling on the wrong family. “Clearly, it’s never seen what you do to your enemies,” she quipped.
When Nicole woke up with a hangover, Vanessa was there to nurse it. She found a note from Carlton to call him when she was able. Nicole told Vanessa that Dani tested positive for BRCA.
Vanessa tried to encourage Nicole to see the bright side of being informed. She suggested that Nicole find a channel for her guilt and to buckle up because they all needed her.
As for Carlton, Vanessa told Nicole that everyone deserved happiness, good friends, and a good guy to make the rough times easier.
Vanessa tried to compare her relationship with Joey to Nicole’s time with Carlton, but she balked.
Vanessa said that the best thing about Joey was that he let her be herself. She asked Nicole to be her friend and not act like Vanessa was her patient. “He trusts me, like you used to,” Vanessa said.
Vanessa told Nicole that just because she hadn’t voiced her disapproval of her lately, didn’t mean she didn’t pick up on it. Vanessa reluctantly agreed to do better in the future. “Good, because the future is now,” Vanessa said.
Vanessa asked Nicole to go on a double date, but Nicole didn’t know how Carlton would feel — not about Joey, but after how she’d behaved the night before.
Joey met Leslie at Uptown but warned her to never summon him again. She cooed and flirted, ignoring the many times he told her it was never going to happen.
Joey said after the paperwork was signed, they’d have no reason to meet again. When Leslie wouldn’t stop invading his space, he reminded her he had people knocked off when he wanted.
After Joey left, Marcel came in. Leslie told him that she’d just met with Joey, which he found interesting. Leslie got Marcel all hot and bothered in seconds with her innuendos about crimes, danger, and being capable of very naughty things, and they quickly left for her place.
Once there, Leslie started removing Marcel’s jacket, but paused when she saw the gun on his hip holster. “You see something you like?” he asked. Leslie took it out and pointed the gun around the room. Marcel said it was good to know that she knew her way around a firearm as he took it back.
Leslie said there was a lot to learn about her, as she went back to stripping him down and pushed him onto the bed.
At the law office, Bill apologized for running out the day before, but didn’t want any more of Hayley’s herbal tea — which he teased was poison.
Bill encouraged Hayley to reach out to his family, thinking that in times like these, people let down their guard and it could be an opportunity for a new beginning. Hayley didn’t commit, but got him to drink tea.
Joey interrupted and told Bill that he was there for legal advice. Hayley gave them privacy, and Joey told Bill that he was investing in a project and wanted a set of protections put in.
Joey said he was building with clean hands, so it needed a paper trail. Bill assumed it had to do with Vanessa. Joey said the project was an opportunity to memorialize Doug.
Joey explained that Leslie was his complicated business partner. Bill advised Joey not to get involved with Leslie, but agreed to read the contract.
Joey told Bill he could handle Leslie, but wanted to make a small change to the contractual language.
In the hallway, Hayley wrote a message to Naomi about making up and thinking about her. Behind her, Dani walked into Bill’s office.
Dani told Bill that she had no new news, but wanted to thank him for being there for her, for not being a first-class jerk lately, and for showing up for her and the girls. “What are you trying to do, change my opinion of you?” she quipped.
Dani said that it meant more than he knew that he showed up the way he did. Bill said there was no place he would rather be.
Bill assured her that everyone had her back, and that he’d always care about her. Dani hugged him, and he held her as she told him that she’d never been this scared in her life.
Just then, Hayley walked in and stopped in her tracks. She demanded that Dani take her hands off of her husband.
Nicole got off the hospital elevator and ran into Carlton. She apologized for her behavior the night before, but he was more than fine with her. He asked to take her for a green smoothie later.
Nicole asked if he was in a good space and told him about the double date idea with Vanessa and Joey.
Vanessa and Joey met at the country club, and he told her that Leslie wanted him to be more hands on — in all the ways. Vanessa apologized for Leslie’s behavior, but Joey said he handled it.
Vanessa was stunned when Joey told her that the clinic was going to be named after Doug. She thought that Donnell and Deanna would be blown away. As she talked about it, Joey had a flashback to Marcel asking if Vanessa knew Joey was behind his death.
