Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) is staunchly childfree, a stance discussed before their marriage to Jacob Hawthorne (Jibre Hordges). However, a recent pregnancy scare revealed Jacob’s desire for parenthood, making Naomi feel unheard and questioning the future of their relationship.
After seeing Jacob’s reaction to her pregnancy scare, Naomi feels like he revealed something she couldn’t give him: parenthood. The stakes of their marriage continuing may be raised this week as Naomi is tested for the BRCA gene.
Naomi Doubles Down
It’s fair to say that everyone’s life changed the moment the Dupree family matriarch received her cancer diagnosis. Anita (Tamara Tunie) was warned that her daughters needed to be tested for the BRCA gene to see if they were at higher risk.
Dani (Karla Mosley) has tested positive, which means that this week on Beyond the Gates, Naomi and her sister, Chelsea (RhonniRose), will be tested as well. If Naomi tests positive, she and Jacob may require a definitive decision about the fate of their marriage.
Jacob has implied that Naomi could one day change her mind about motherhood, leading Naomi to wonder whether his stance on parenting is just lip service.
If Naomi tests positive for the BRCA gene and knows she could pass it on to her own child, her decision will be locked in even more. In fact, she could likely go ahead and make it impossible for her to ever have children, thereby forcing Jacob to get real with his own feelings and what he wants for his future,.
Would Naomi have surgery to ensure she can’t ever have children — and if so, would she tell her husband beforehand? She didn’t mention the pregnancy test, and he accidentally found out. She could simply decide it’s her body and therefore, her choice, and may not want him to know until it’s too late.
Naomi has already seemed to be pushing Jacob away, but the test results could be the end of this not-so-happily-married couple.
